Story
CHICA was a puppy mill breeder and then dumped on the streets where she lived for a year and got pregnant again. We pulled her out of the storms three days before she gave birth. She was SOOO relieved to have a safe and warm place to whelp and raise her babies, and she wanted me right by her side during the entire 24-hour labor, often leaning on me for support... while I promised she would never have to go through that again. CHICA is now spayed and has come a long way in socialization. She has learned to wag tail at strangers instead of bark. She does bark when other dogs walk by, but more out of jealousy than anything else. We think that she was never allowed indoors before since she took months to build up the courage to come inside. Now all she wants is to be somebody's couch potato! She is enthusiastic with affection and friendly with other dogs and even delivery drivers who she barks at until they come inside the yard to deliver a package, at which point she wags her tail and wants to say hello. ***CHICA displays no form of aggression except with a bit of FOOD GUARDING, as many street dogs do. It's also possible she was not fed enough as she was being used as a breeder. Since she is so friendly in every other way, this could be worked on. Story
Meet DALILAH. This "used up" breeder was found chained to a fence in Stockton, emaciated, covered in flies and fleas and dried blood, and struggling to walk and breathe. After taking some time to gain her trust, we took her to an after-hours vet to make sure she had no urgent healthcare issues and got some antibiotics for her skin. Turns out she has the worst case of fleas I have ever seen. Even after the dose of Capstar from the vet and a very thorough wash and rinse while she just sat there with her head on my knee and let the fleas wash away in masses, she still had hundreds of them crawling around and trying to get off of her. We will trim her nails and dose her with a longer-term flea medication and some dewormer, which is likely what has caused her distended belly and maybe her malnutrition, almost certainly anemia. We'll schedule her for our intro vet package (thorough health check, vaccinations, microchip), get some x-rays to determine why she has trouble walking, keep her inside for a while so the flies don't go back at it, get her on a regular diet, and hopefully she will be feeling and looking like herself... maybe for the first time ever. #DalilahTails. Story
June Carter was named for her sweet disposition. We adopted June from our local animal shelter almost a year ago. She has been nothing but a sweet, loving, cuddly girl. We think she might be a pit mixed with a larger breed (great dane/ boxer?!) Her favorite things are Kong/ Bullymake toys, running in the backyard, and playdates with other dogs. Unfortunately one of our pre-existing dogs just could not get along with her which is why we are looking into rehoming (we are also pregnant/expecting). June is super playful and is looking for a family that can give her more attention and engagement. She is interestingly not super into walks - but loves brain puzzles and just hanging out with her family. She takes to training very well (is very intelligent) and has completed beginner and intermediate dog training at Petsmart. She would do great as a solo pet for a family looking for a house trained older puppy, and most likely would get along with other friendly/ more timid dogs.

Story
Freki is a 4.5 yr old UKC American Bully. He is 100lbs of short and stout. The couch is his favorite place, but he does enjoy short walks. This all American house-hippo is only after your affection. He is a low energy dog that does not require a high energy routine. He is content with snuggles and his persons' attention. He will bark at people walking past windows, (which is a good deterrent for unwanted visitors) but is great once your guests enter the home. Freki does not mind passing other animals on walks, but should be the only dog in the home as he is possessive over food. This boy has alot of love to give and is in need of a new home. Please reach out with interest.

Story
Yuji is a big old goofball who loves rolling around on a nice grassy lawn. He loves everyone he meets and is always ready for adventure. Yuji loves to run around with zoomies in his yard before retiring back to the couch for a nice nap. Check out Yuji's cutest moments playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVb0fq1O6CwkPbzR2tCqGBBDWIMflKp6C Yuji was unfortunately hit by a car in Manteca and when his owners were contacted to let them know their family dog was injured and in the shelter, they chose to surrender him over the phone instead of taking him home. Since the shelter has no veterinary resources, he had to find rescue right away or be euthanized. Better World Rescue took this sweet boy in and we are so happy that we did. He is great in the car, sweet with kids, and loves to lounge around with his humans. He has now recovered fully from his injuries and has a clean bill of health for adoption. Yuji is house-trained, crate-trained and knows some basic commands. Yuji would be easiest as an only dog as he can guard food and toys from other dogs. But he can live with other dogs in an experienced home with slow introductions. He is not recommended to live with cats as he has moderate prey drive. He is working on walking a bit more calmly on leash, but seeing this happy boy prance around is actually pretty cute. Yuji is microchipped, neutered and up to date on his vaccinations. Give this sweet boy his forever home today! Fill out an application at: https://betterworldrescue.org/adoption-application/ One of our volunteers will reach out within one business day to set up a meet and greet and answer any questions.

If we need to look something up later and you used a different email we are often not able to find it. 2. Adopt a Pet and Petfinders ask you to send us an enquiry. This always delays our response. (Why) a. Our biographies are always very detailed. Therefore sending an enquiry asking us to repeat what it says in the biography causes a lot more work and delays our response. b. We are a small non-profit and do not always have the help to answer as many enquiries as we get. c. Again our Biographies are very detailed and if you just click the link near the bottom of their bio you can fill out an application which we will respond to. 3. For the AFC website (scroll down to the bio at the bottom it says (apply to adopt today- click that link) www.animalfriendsconnect.org 4.
