Coconut is 3 years old and as sweet as can be. He walks AMAZINGLY on leash. He is not very interested in food but he LOVES toys. Tennis balls and tug ropes to be specific, you can find us playing fetch! He is a very well mannered laid back guy who just wants a family of his own. Coconut is kid and dog friendly, Unknown with cats. Here's what his foster mom says. How is Coconut still looking for a home??? Coconut loves everyone he meets kids included! He is extremely dog friendly & I believe he would do well with cat. His favorite thing to do is sunbathe with his yellow ball & play fetch! Coconut is very well mannered and walks great on leash.

Story
Blanco was pulled from Monroe Humane Society in December 2023. This guy is so sweet and doesn't deserve what life has handed him. Blanco is deaf, and also heartworm positive. Save Monroe Strays has lots of experience with both! He is currently undergoing his heartworm treatment (first injection down, 2 to go). If you have ever wanted to do the most rewarding thing ever, please consider fostering Blanco through the rest of his treatment. While he is in a loving foster home now, there are several other dogs around which, of course, Blanco wants to play with. Part of the struggle with heartworm is that a dog needs to remain fairly calm and not elevate their heart rate. Do you have a quiet house for him to hang out in? As far as Blanco being deaf.....we have had several deaf dogs in our care. We can help with training. Their ability to overcome this one deficit with their other senses being so keen is really something you have to see to believe. Please don't let his deafness dissuade you from meeting Blanco. He's such a good boy!

Story
Zero came to us from Romulus Animal Control. He's named Zero, not because he has zero personality, but, because he can go from 0-60 very quickly. He's young and has high energy. But, he's so eager to learn and please. He's starting to understand that the crate is his safe place. He loves being outside. And we don't think he's ever had a toy in his life. But, he loves them now. He's more stunning in person. He loves playing with dogs, and does really well with them, but, no cats for this guy!

Story
Clifford is one big boy. But his foster reports he is darn near perfect except he cannot live with cats. He needs a little work on the leash but that will come with consistent training. However, what he really needs now is a big comfy couch and some quiet time. Clifford is heartworm positive. And as he goes through his treatment, he can not get excited and have his heart rate elevated. So no long walks or playing fetch until he is done with his treatment. But, this is no reason to not bring Clifford home with you. His treatment is totally covered by the rescue. Once he's done, there are no residual effects. He's a great dog! Please contact us if you would like to be a hero and foster him through his treatment, or better yet, foster him to adopt.

Story
Chevy - from the eyes of his foster... - Loves to play tug - Loves to snuggle or curl up on a dog bed - Loves other dogs - Chevy's tail never stops wagging! He is SUCH a happy, go lucky boy! - Loves everyone he meets BUT sometimes forgets he's a big boy and can get over excited- we have been working on this and he continues to improve with training! - Working on leash/crate training - he does not have accidents in his crate and does well at night sleeping in it! - Potty trained/ will alert at door - Chevy is a very strong and active boy who will need an active family who is willing to continue his training! - He currently lives on a farm and enjoys watching all of the farm animals every day. He does NOT like cats and I think he would chase them any chance given. - He is not a fence jumper - Really good about waiting patiently to come inside. - Loves the water and enjoys being groomed. He'd probably make a great dog for someone who lives on a lake or owns a boat. Whomever is lucky enough to bring this dog into their family will need to continue consistent training with Chevy so he can blossom into the best dog ever! He's got a great start so far!

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
A few months back we pulled our incredibly scared but sweet, Nova, from the Romulus Animal Shelter. Nova had been spotted in the area and on the run for approx 3 months and was finally able to be trapped. We were able to pull her just a day before her set euthanasia, her time was up. Nova has come a long way, but is still very cautious of people. Add to this poor little lady's somewhat sad story....she is heartworm positive. She bonded at her foster's home with another dog, Sky, and was finally relaxing a little bit. Tragically, Sky passed away suddenly. Her foster mom gives her extra attention and reassures her that everything is okay. Nova is still going through her treatment, so she is looking for a foster/foster to adopt home. The cost of treatment is 100% covered by the rescue. We'd really like to find her a quiet home, possibly with someone retired, where there's not a lot of commotion but there's someone home often that could love on her all day long. She is incredibly scare of change and new environments, but is so sweet and will warm up quickly. Her current foster mom says she's committed to keeping her with her until she finds the perfect home. Is it you?
