Story
Hi!!! My name is Leah. But, my foster mom calls me Yoda because I have wonderfully independent ears! I am crate trained, house broken and walk well on the leash. I enjoy car rides and am a perfect co-pilot. I only chew on toys for aggressive chewers. I don't bother anything that isn't a toy. I love the outdoors and playing with my foster canine brother. My foster canine sister is older, and while I stay in touch with her, I give her space to snooze or whatever. I have impeccable house manners, and the best place to be is by your side. I am a little shy but love attention, and take direction well. I am very food motivated, but treats should be taken gently! I hope to meet you soon! Questions About this Animal? Story
Meet our fun-loving and spirited staffy mix, Fendi! Fendi is about 2 yrs old and is a medium sized dog at 56 pounds. She was found as a stray and taken to the local shelter. Harley Koda Animal Rescue (HKAR) was able to offer her a chance to find a forever-home.  She is currently being fostered in a home with a big fenced-in backyard and other dog companions.   As a young dog, she has lots of energy and loves walking, hiking, and playing fetch with her favorite ball or toy. She’s incredibly smart, eager to learn. Fendi completed a three-week training program with Ridegside K9, and is well behaved. She has grown more confident and is learning to trust new dogs as she is introduced to them. She enjoys meeting new people, and will greet you with happy tail wags and adorable little hops. Fendi loves to chat with her human friends and lets you know when she needs to go outside for a potty break. She gets along well with her foster dog friends. She enjoys playing and zooming around the backyard. After playtime, she’s happiest curled up next to you on the sofa, relaxing and enjoying cuddles. Fendi is crate trained, housebroken, spayed, and up to date on all her vaccines. She’s ready to bring love, laughter, and lots of happy moments to her forever-home! If you would like to bring Fendi into your family, reach out to us at    HarleyKodaAR@gmail.com . Story
Meet Athena, a sweet senior girl at almost 8 years young looking for her forever home. She LOVES: - People! especially adults. She's okay with any adult coming into her home & giving her cuddles and/or walks. She loves the cleaning ladies and her daily dog walkers. - Treats! Cheese is her favorite and she knows the word. Her hedgehog! She uses it to self-soothe when she gets overwhelmed. She just sits on her bed and mouths it when she's overstimulated. Tennis balls are a close second. - Walks! especially on the trail. There are so many smells and she loves to walk for miles. For the most part she will loose leash walk and redirect easily, but she definitely has some terrier in her and might lunge for a squirrel. - her clothes! She loves a hoodie and she's quite fashionable. She gets very excited when I put her sweaters on her. - Sunbathing! She loves to sunbathe on the back deck. BACKGROUND: Athena was abandoned with her 10 pups in Puerto Rico in the middle of a violent rain storm, she was rescued by a good Samaritan who took them inside to safety. Traveling up to Virginia in 2019, she was adopted by a family that loved her very much. Four years later, her family had a small human of their own, and Athena did not do well adjusting as they became mobile. Athena is physically healthy, though a pesky floating kneecap can sometime bother her if she's been running around a LOT. She may also have some allergies that affect her skin. KNOWN WITH DOGS: Athena is dog selective. She prefers to just coexist. KNOWN WITH CATS: Athena did not react well at an event with cats. KNOWN WITH KIDS: Athena would prefer to not live with kids. KNOWN CUES: She knows basic commands - sit, down, push-up, shake (both sides), spin, touch, and good at agility. She's very smart and eager to learn! She's working on: - Leash training. She's working on some leash reactivity to big dogs, school buses, and the mail man. - Listening when she's overstimulated KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: She is absolutely amazing in the house: - crate trained (she doesn't need it, she's trustworthy enough to free roam) - house broken - Trustworthy. She's never chewed on something that wasn't hers or tried to jump on the counter. She does beg, but who doesn't? ___________________________________ If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail trailshomefarm@homewardtrails.org PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Trails Home Farm LOCATION: An amazing foster home in Northern Virginia! Story
-ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 40 lbs -ESTIMATED AGE: 4 years old KNOWN WITH DOGS Likes other dogs; enjoys having a buddy(s) of all ages and sizes to play with in the yard. She's chill when meeting new dogs, so she's a good "second dog" for a dog who doesn't love puppy energy. KNOWN WITH CATS Interested, but doesn't chase (leaves foster cat sibling alone) KNOWN WITH KIDS Good with kids-can get a little mouthy when playing KNOWN CUES Knows sit and lay down; responds well to gentle encouragement and routine. KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING Fully housetrained; sleeps soundly through the night; still working on leash and harness confidence; prefers a fenced yard. She has started indicated with the sweetest soft barks when she wants something. KNOWN LIKES Soft grass, tasty treats, all kinds of toys, super soft blankets, quiet environments, gentle people, canine friends, yard play, companionship once she trusts you, snuggling with her people. Under the chin scratches and belly rubs. She will also come with a giant pickle toy that she has adopted as her child. KNOWN DISLIKES Loud areas, busy places, fireworks, unfamiliar environments, walks in overstimulating settings, slippery floors (until confident) Notes from the foster: Caroline is a gentle, shy dog who needs a little time to feel safe in new places, but once she trusts you, she bonds deeply and loves with her whole heart. She is fully housetrained, sleeps soundly through the night, and enjoys tasty treats, soft grass, and meeting new dogs. She greets people with quiet friendliness and thrives in a calm environment. Caroline is spayed, up‑to‑date on vaccines including rabies, and will need a patient adopter who lets her learn at her own pace with love and grace. She’s still working on leash and harness confidence, so a fenced yard is a big plus. She has started to really enjoy exploring outside on a leash, though she isn't yet "I'll go on a hike with you" excited about the leash. When getting used to a new place, she might need to be carried places-particularly getting in and out of the car-so she would do best with someone who could lift her (50 SOLID pounds). She is a snorer and a snuffler, and she grunts happily when you scratch her. She is just discovering playing! She will grunt and gently wrestle and go for her toys. She is still learning not to put her mouth on people (and occasionally their shoes and socks), and responds well to gentle redirection. (We say "leave it" in a disapproving voice and she leaves it! She's a good girl!) I think she'll be living her best life if someone trained her to be one of those dogs you read to at the library. She's so placid and calm and listens without judgement. She likes to ride in her car seat and occasionally stop for Pup Cups at Starbucks.
