Story
Annabelle's story: Annabelle was surrendered to us because her previous owner got an active duty call and had to move overseas. After being with her previous owner for 5 years, coming to a shelter, especially at an older age is hard. We feel for Annabelle, and are hoping we can find a home for her that can love her till the end of her days.  Annabelle loves to be around people! She would be perfectly content to sit on the couch with someone all day! Annabelle adores pets and frozen peanut butter Kongs. She does not need a lot of exercise as she is a senior, but still enjoys walks.  Are you the perfect forever home for Annabelle? Age: 9 years Gender: Female Spayed/neutered: Yes Weight: 60.6 Vaccines: Rabies, Distemper, Bordetella Heartworm results: Negative Lyme results: Negative Allergies: None Special needs: Arthritis in back right leg OK with kids: Yes OK with cats: Unknown Adoption fee: $100  To Apply: 1) Print adoption application here:   https://staffordspca.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Stafford_SPCA_Adoption_Application_Adoption-Process-04182018.pdf 2) Email to adopt@staffordspca.org OR Fax to 866-522-8042. Home visits required and dog adoptions often do require structural fencing. (We make decisions regarding the fencing requirement on a dog-by-dog basis, according to the dog's exercise needs and energy level.)  Stafford SPCA does not condone the exclusive use of invisible fencing.   We reserve the right to deny placement of puppies and kittens into homes with children under 5 years old. Story
We named her Promise because we had no more room on the transport to bring her and we told her that we would come back for her. We kept our word - and we are so glad we did. She had puppies at some point before she was dumped at the poor rural shelter, but she did not come with any of her puppies. This alone must have been awful for her to be separated from her pups. She was very shut down when we got her but now that she is in a foster home she is coming out of her shell and wants to play with the fosters other dogs. And she plays like a boxer which is so cute! Her foster mom says of Promise that 'she is super cute and friendly and just wants to be around me and my son.' She has very good house manners, ,does not chew, is great in a crate and is house broken. We listed older children because she seems scared of small children. We have told Promise that life will be very different from this point on she will have a home with someone who will love her and be kind to her. This is another promise we have made to this sweet dog. If you are interested in Promise, and helping us keep our promises to her, please let us know. Thank you for your interest in Promise! Story
Kris - Ooey, Gooey, Yummy Like a Krispy Kreme Doughnut and Cat Friendly! Like a creme-filled glazed doughnut, I am a bit 'crunchy' on the outside with a delicious, irresistible center. Meaning, when outdoors, I can be a bit distracted and not a fan of all dogs and, therefore, overlooked by potential adopters and fosters. Unfortunately, these same people don't get to see my delightful, delectable indoor qualities. Specifically, as confirmed by my previous foster, I have impeccable house manners - that is, not destructive, calm, and housebroken. In addition, I am very affectionate, like to snuggle, and just want to snooze on a giant bed. And, importantly, I am good with cats. These adorable photos say it all! I have been with HART since February 2023 - much too long for a sweet doughnut like me to not be gobbled up by a wonderful family. Also, as I enter my senior years, living in a kennel is not what I envisioned - particularly as the colder weather approaches. So, let's start a Krispy Kreme extravaganza filled with making many delightful memories. Thank you for your interest in Kris! Story
We are so glad we rescued Shayna. Here is what the shelter told us about her: 'Sweetheart gal about 7 years old and 39 lbs. You won't find a nicer or more gentle girl. You know she lived her entire life on a chain - just heartbreaking.' We, too, already know that she is a gentle and sweet middle aged dog. She is affectionate and loves to be petted. She has moderate energy but she also likes to run around the play yard. She goes outside of her run to potty and never chews on anything she is not supposed to. She is a sweetheart! If you are interested in her please let us know. Thank you for your interest in Shayna (aka Shinner)! ADOPTION FEE: $0 WAIVED! ABOUT RUDY: Rudy is amazing. And no one seems to notice it. And thus, this poor boy has been in rescue way too long. Hear us out here...this underbite golden bachelor is worth your final rose. We'll even pay for the wedding. Rudy is like that super awesome friend you meet but don't click with the minute you meet him (cuz let's be honest, those types can be annoying). But if you chill out and give him a minute it will be the best decision you ever made.....again, like that college friend you met at orientation but it took til the end of first semester when you ran into each other at a party, clicked over a good dance song and became inseparable for the next 40 years. Rudy won't quit you. He'll only love you every day of your life. And that doesn't even address his most adorable underbite! Who wants the dog that loves you IMMEDIATELY? That's boring. We all know that the best things in life are worth waiting for, worth the time and pay off in dividends. Well, that's Rudy. Trust us on this. We adore this boy for the way he loves us in his calm, deliberative way. Cuz he takes his time. And that is refreshing and adorable, we think. Rudy is playful, outgoing, and fun to be around! His look is unique with a goofy underbite and a squishy, Pug-like face. He has a "Cheeto tooth" that is orange in color. Rudy has had his dental and the vet said that his pearly smile is quite healthy. He didn't require any dental procedures other than a cleaning. YAY for a clean dental bill of health. Live in an apartment? No problem. Rudy is not a big barker. Live in a house? Great too. He's great on leash, loves to chill in the sun and is an all-around easygoing guy. This heartthrob is a friendly guy and loves people, especially the ladies. He has many girlfriends at the rescue. As Rudy is getting older he remains a rock star in play groups with dogs of his energy level. He doesn't need a hyper dog or person to spend hours a day wearing him out. He's content with moderate exercise and play. And he'll take a belly rub any day. Come meet Rudy for yourself and see how amazing he really is! Follow Rudy on his own Instagram page: @rudy.rudy.roo DOGS: Rudy likes dogs that match his energy CATS: Yes KIDS: Rudy has done well with kids. Since entering his senior years, he prefers kids that are dog savvy and don't tug and pull on him. ADOPTION INCLUDES: Spay/Neuter First 3 distemper series vaccines & de-wormings Microchip - lifetime with no registration fees Current on heartworm preventative Current on flea/tick preventative EXCLUSIVE HOMEWARD TRAILS ADOPTER BENEFITS: Free first exam with: Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Palisades Veterinary Clinic, Jermantown Animal Hospital and Clarendon Animal Care and all VCA Animal Hospitals (VCA offers $250 coverage - details provided) Free online workshop with a professional dog trainer at Fur-Get Me Not within the first 30 days of adopting (in DC/Arlington/Alexandria only) BE A FOSTER: Save a life: http://www.homewardtrails.org/foster-a-pet/dog-and-cat-foster-program.
