Story
This handsome boy was picked up running at large and based on Facebook posts it was about his third or fourth offense, but no one claimed him. We are guessing that he was a failure at being a livestock guardian because he’s way too social. He’s always wanting to visit someone new. Charlie is a little over a year old and weighs 110 lbs. He was very thin when he first came to us but is now at his perfect weight. He is neutered, up-to-date on required vaccines, microchipped and heartworm tested negative. He’s house trained and he loves other dogs, but he is a big guy. He also will require a tall fence and you will have to keep an eye on him because again he likes to visit new people. He’s affectionate and likes to lean on you. He is learning commands like sit and stay and he really tries to please! This is what his foster mom says about him " Charlie is amazing. He is housebroken, loves to be hugged, hasn’t chewed anything up, likes to play but is content just to chill. He walks beautifully on a leash and likes to say hi to everyone he meets. Charlie enjoys sitting and looking out the window, hanging around in the kitchen especially when I’m cooking and going for car rides. Although this breed is known for having a stubborn streak, Charlie seems to understand a few commands wait, it’s ok, no, come, let’s go and he will even sit for a treat. But his favorite is Good Boy Charlie❤️" This guy would be a great dog for an active loving family. He’s so sweet! If you would like to be Charlie’s forever family please email dogs4mylife@ gmail.com or olmc7@ hotmail.com. If you are inquiring from a Gmail address. It is best to use our Gmail address or you might have to look for us in your spam.

Story
Highway (HWY) is a very good-looking boy. He is very high Anatolian Shepherd. He was fully vetted 9/18/24. 19 weeks old as of 11/1/24. Weighed 18.9 lbs when vetted. He is growing fast. Est 30 -35 lbs now on 11/1!24. HWY was named Highway because he was found on Highway 51. in West TN. A girl that his foster mom knows saw a car pull over on the side of the highway and put him out. She pulled over and saved him. He was really scared when we first got him. He has come a long way but can still be shy at times. He needs someone willing to be patient with him. He catches on pretty quick. He’s playful and knows “ sit” already. He loves other dogs. Walks really well on leash. He actually would do very well with an avid walker/runner. He does likes o ride in the car. He will require additional potty/house training as he is still a pup. HIGHWAY is located in Ripley, TN. (West TN). Contact Lisa at 731-499-0739 or oatsvall973@yahoo.com Out of state transport can be arranged, cost is $185.

Story
Make a Difference! Adopt a Shelter Dog! This handsome hunk is Max, a 100-pound gentle giant with a heart just as big as his paws. Max found himself in a Queens, NY shelter when he simply outgrew apartment life—but he’s thriving now in his foster home and ready for a forever family of his own. Max is doing wonderfully with his foster siblings (three mixed-breed dogs) and would love a home with another playful dog to keep him company. He really shines in dog-to-dog friendships and enjoys good, old-fashioned rowdy play—especially with his biggest foster sibling, a shepherd/husky mix. When it comes to people, Max is a bit of a shy guy at first. We don’t think he had much exposure to new people in his past, so he can be nervous when visitors arrive. He has no signs of aggression whatsoever, he’s just fearful and may try to hide behind his foster mom (which is both endearing and slightly comical given his size). Slow introductions, patience, and plenty of treats are the key to his heart. Once Max feels safe, his true personality comes out: gentle, happy, and incredibly sweet. He should never be forced to greet—he’ll let you know when he’s ready. Max is still very much a big puppy and will need plenty of toys, bones, and enrichment to keep him busy. He loves fetching tennis balls and can catch them mid-air like a pro, even from impressive distances. Squeaky toys and plush toys are also high on his favorites list. He enjoys going for walks, though he’ll benefit from some leash training to curb his enthusiasm (he’s strong and doesn’t quite know it yet). He definitely needs regular exercise to burn off puppy energy. At just one year old, Max still has some growing to do, and filling out! He’s currently a bit underweight and in that adorably awkward, gangly stage, but once mature he’ll be a very large, powerful dog. His former family did an excellent job house-training him; he hasn’t had a single accident in foster care. He knows “sit” and “paw,” takes treats gently, and has proven he can be trusted uncrated while his foster family is out. With his foster mom, Max is snuggly, affectionate, goofy, loyal, and incredibly loving. He actually thinks he is a lap dog. He has ultra-soft fur, beautiful soulful eyes, and once you earn his trust, you’ll have a friend for life. Max is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up to date on all vaccinations. His ideal new home would have another dog (or dogs), no small children who could be accidentally knocked over, and a family experienced with large-breed dogs who understands that sometimes the biggest dogs have the softest hearts. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will grow into an amazing lifelong friend, Max might just be your perfect match 🐾 To adopt Max, please complete our online dog application at https://www.sheltersurvivors.com/application.html and return it to sheltersurvivors@live.com. Or, go to sheltersurvivors.com, click on the home page, look for "Application" at the top of the home page, and complete the application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Tide and his siblings were saved from a high-kill shelter in Calfornia and arrived at Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine on Wednesday 3rd August.  We post our adoptable dogs across the East Coast and Canada so we can reach as many amazing adopters as possible and match each dog with their perfect home. Please note: We do not transport dogs. Approved adopters will schedule an appointment for a meet-and-greet at People 'n' Pets, Freeze Dried Goodies & Gear in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, where you’ll get to meet Tide in person — and hopefully take home your new best friend. If you think Tide might be “the one,” we’d love to hear from you! Health & Background &#226&#156&#133 Neutered &#226&#156&#133 Rabies and all core vaccines up to date &#226&#156&#133 Heartworm/Tick 4DX test: Negative across the board &#226&#156&#133 On monthly flea/tick preventatives &#226&#156&#133 Microchipped &#226&#154&#150&#239&#184&#143 Weight: potential 50-60 pounds Estimated DoB: 23 May 2025 Meet Tide Tide is truly an amazing boy. He has a full package of looks, personality, and yes — he’s a master manipulator! Even after multiple visits to the emergency hospital in Southern Maine, all the staff fell in love with him. One vet even emailed his information to a colleague in New Hampshire just to share what a special pup he is. Medical Background As a young puppy, Tide developed weakness in his legs and, at one point, couldn’t stand or walk. After several trips to the emergency hospital and various treatments, he was diagnosed with two growth-related bone conditions: Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD) and Panosteitis. Panosteitis (sometimes called “growing pains”) is a temporary, painful inflammation of the long bones that affects young, fast-growing dogs, particularly large-breed mixes like Tide. Symptoms include shifting lameness and discomfort in the legs. Panosteitis is self-limiting, meaning it usually resolves on its own as the dog matures, typically by 18–24 months. Treatment focuses on managing pain and rest during flare-ups. Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD) is another painful bone condition seen in fast-growing puppies. It can cause fever, swelling, thickened bones, lameness, and general discomfort. The exact cause isn’t fully understood, but genetics, nutrition, and infections may all play a role. Most dogs improve as they finish growing, and severe cases are treated with medications, rest, and sometimes hospitalization. Surgery is rarely needed. Tide is currently on prednisone to manage inflammation and pain, and he is thriving! Prednisone is generally used during flare-ups or when symptoms are more pronounced. As he grows and his bones stabilize, he may not need medication continuously — likely only intermittently for temporary stiffness during growth spurts. By around 2 years old, he is expected to be completely done with active symptoms from both conditions. Even when he couldn’t walk as a puppy, Tide’s sweet personality shone through. He would drag himself around to enjoy attention from vets and staff, and now he’s a playful, confident, and mischievous pup. He sometimes gets a little stiff during growth spurts, but these flare-ups are temporary, and he responds well to medication and rest. Personality & Temperament Tide is a gentle, loving, and affectionate pup. He’s full of confidence and mischief, loves attention, and thrives in an active environment. Despite his medical history, he is playful, curious, and completely puppy at heart. He enjoys interacting with people and other dogs, and he’s always ready to bring joy and energy into his home. Best Buddies Tide is inseparable from his sister Robin. Whether cuddling up for naps or getting into mischief, these two are always together. We would love to see them adopted as a pair so they can continue sharing adventures and companionship in their forever home. Adoption Details Adoption Fee: $550 Location: Sebec, Maine Families must complete and submit an adoption questionnaire. Once approved, you’ll be invited to schedule an appointment to meet Tide. &#226&#143&#177&#239&#184&#143 Applications are generally processed within 24-48 hours Click here to complete the Adoption Questionnaire Want to See More of Tide?
