Story
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Windy. And that girl was actually a cattle dog. But female so still a girl. One day, Windy found herself in a very scary place... the shelter. :( She was so frightened that she would hardly come out of her kennel or walk on a leash, and tried to escape out the windowsill, earning her name. Luckily, Princess Windy had lots of friends at VCAS who were rooting for her. They found her a new castle where she could stay for a little bit to feel better - in a foster home on a ranch! At the ranch Windy met her subjects WE MEAN friends!! Goats, dogs, cats, chickens, horses... she even goes to work with her foster mom to a grooming salon every day. Basically, all of Ventura County became her kingdom! (Not really). ANYWAY, fast forward to today. Princess Windy is doing AMAZING at the ranch... but she can`t stay forever. Are you looking for a ranch queen who will blend right in with the pack? Windy`s your girl. Please reach out to her foster parent to learn more... here`s hoping for Windy`s happily ever after.

Story
Two-year-old Dakota is a gentle, sensitive cattle dog mix who’s learning that the world isn’t so scary after all, especially when she’s got a dog buddy by her side. Once she feels safe, her sweet and goofy personality shines through, and you’ll see her tail start wagging and her playful side come out to play. Dakota is very dog-friendly and really comes out of her shell when she has a confident canine friend to show her the ropes. She loves playing chase and would thrive in a home with another friendly dog who enjoys zoomies and companionship. Since settling in with her foster’s dog, she’s blossomed! She`s becoming more alert, active, and joyful every day. She’s still shy with new people and places, so patience and a calm environment are key. Dakota is a quiet soul around the house, but she does have a silly streak, especially late at night! Around 2 or 3 a.m., you might catch her having solo zoomies in the backyard or rolling gleefully in the wet grass. If she really likes you, she might nudge your ear to invite you to join in on the fun.Dakota is house-trained, calm and quiet in the car (though she prefers the floorboards), and working on her leash skills. She’s also a bit of a chewer, so she’ll need supervision with plush toys. She takes her “stuffing removal” duties very seriously! With her soft heart and playful spirit, Dakota will make the perfect companion for someone patient and kind, ideally with another dog to help her build confidence. Once she trusts you, she’ll repay your love a hundred times over with gentle snuggles, late-night giggles, and her signature nose-in-your-ear affection. @vcanimalservices Dakota needs out of the shelter to learn how beautiful life can be!!! This 1.5 y/o cattle dog mix arrived at the shelter with her sister, Windy, both very fearful. We can SEE how badly Dakota wants to trust people and dogs. Where she used to press herself into corners and hide, she’s starting to approach us for greetings on her own! However, the shelter is no environment for a scared herding dog to come into her own. We are looking for an adopter, foster, or rescue for Dakota who will show her the lo

Story
Betsy was on a final plea list from a southern CA animal shelter when we picked her up. The shelter had been seeking rescue for her for quite some time with no response, primarily due to her behavior. Betsy isn't very accepting of new people and a new owner will need to give her plenty of time to bond without making demands on her. In our opinion, she's more of a working dog than a family pet. In other words, she's a serious dog, not a cuddler. She will make a good protector of her domain, and hopefully she'll be accepting of the folks she comes to know and trust. At 2 years old, Betsy is full-grown and she's solid, at 43 pounds. *We try to keep our posts up-to-date but there may be more dogs available for adoption than we have shared here. Please go to our website at www.dobiesandlittlepawsrescue.org to see all of our available dogs and fill out our adoption application.

Meet Jeff – A Loyal Queensland Heeler Looking for His Forever Home 🐾 Jeff is a 3-year-old Queensland Heeler with a big heart and lots of energy. He’s smart, affectionate with his people, and loves to run and play. He’s already been neutered and has some formal training under his belt. In the right home, he’ll be a devoted and loving companion. If you think Jeff might be the perfect match for you, please reach out—we’d love to find him the home he deserves. 💙
