Story
Alicent was pulled with three other members of her family from a neglect/hoarding case. This beautiful, social dog, assumed to be a heeler/hound mix, had spent the first 3 years of her life alone and on a chain. We were heartbroken but not suprised when she and her 2 companions Rhaenyra and Miss Missy all tested heartworm positive, and we buckled in for the long haul, dedicated to making sure they completed their treatment before moving onto their next home. That was 7+ months ago. The difficult part is over now - the months of kennel rest, medications, injections, the waiting game. It's now time for Alicent to find her forever home! Alicent's littermate has gone on to thrive in a home with children of various ages, another dog, and cats, and we think Alicent may do well in a similar environment. Alicent keeps a clean kennel, is improving her leash skills, and is a friendly, happy, and silly dog who loves to play, run, and enjoys her treats. Because she had been kept in isolation for so long, she was confused by the prospect of a doggy friend, but she now plays and bounces with the best of them. Alicent enjoys soft beds, Nylabones, and will chew on a bone for hours. She has an old leg injury, but she does not let it stop her athletic prowess. If you think this affectionate, vivacious, and surviving soul might be a good fit for you and your family, please come and meet her! She's been at FFAA since the beginning of May 2025, and the sooner the better for her to move on to the next chapter of her life.

Story
Zara is a medium-sized (38 lb) Heeler who was surrendered here after living all 4 years of her life in a tiny pen. After receiving complaints from neighbors about her barking, Zara's owner felt there was no other choice than to give her up. Incidentally, surrendering here saved her life. When she went to get spayed, it was discovered that she was in the early stages of Pyometra. Now warm, fed, and on the mend with no more infected uterus nearly killing her, Zara is ready to find her forever home - this time inside. She's adjusting very well to life indoors and seems to relish in all of the connection and attention she is getting.According to her previous home, Zara is comfortable with even young children. She shared her pen with a cat for some time, so with proper introduction would likely do well in a multi-pet home. Above all else, it is clear that Zara wants to be close to you. Not only is she a stage 5 clinger, she's an expert level hugger. As office dog, she hasn't figured out yet that the toys are for her enjoyment, but she does know that pets and loving words are easily accessible for the first time in her life. She prefers to stick close, paws on your lap, staring deep into your eyes. She hasn't mustered the courage to jump on the couch yet, but if you help her up, she wraps both of her paws around your waist and lays her head on your chest, sneaking in as many kisses as you'll allow. She really lights up during walks. She keeps her nose to the ground and her tail wags wildly. Confidence fills each stride as she explores her surroundings. She may enjoy being a running or hiking companion (as long as she gets her daily ration of cuddles and kisses). During her recent Doggy Day Out, Zara recieved glowing reports of her leash manners and laid-back energy. She was not a heavy puller on the leash, and although she needed help loading up in the car, she was a perfect passenger. She ignored other dogs and for the most part the people she passed, except for when she discovered some new best friends. She does have a funny quirk - she is such an ardent and thorough sniffer that if she's rushed and not allowed to finish her sniffs, she will just lay down in protest! We are hoping that Zara's next (and hopefully final) home will have the utmost patience as she acclimates to indoor living for the first time and have the utmost appreciation for the tender, loving, and velcro dog that she naturally is. We want only the softest of pillows and the gentlest of owners for this sweet little girl - she deserves it!

Story
Meet Phil! He's a very adorable and energetic boy. He was running loose in Springfield, posted many places, and never claimed. Unfortunately, his foster family couldn't keep him and we were unable to adopt, so Phil is at the Haven searching for his forever home. Phil is very friendly and social and very much wants to be with his people, so he's not a backyard kind of dog. He's a family dog. He likes other pups but wants to play and rough house, so a playful dog sibling will be the best match. Phil LOVES toys and hopes to have lots of them in his new home! Phil is active, smart, and responds very well to instruction. He is extremely trainable and would love an owner who knows the basics of working with a dog on leash manners and basic commands. He's doing pretty nicely with his crate training and will do well continuing with it. Phil is likely a cattle dog and can be a little mouthy (he will learn not to do this with just a little work), so he probably isn't a good choice for small children at this point. Phil's estimated DOB is 6/2/2024 and his weight is about 45 pounds. He is a VERY good boy who deserves all the best. Please meet Phil at the Haven open 9-4 each day and help make his stay at the sanctuary a short one! All of our pets are fixed, up to date on their vaccinations, and microchipped. The Haven of the Ozarks is open from 9am-4pm, seven days a week. No appointment needed for adopters. For more information, email havenozarksanctuary@gmail.com, or give us a call at 417-835-3647. Save time at the shelter and submit your adoption application at www.havenoftheozarks.org/adopt.

Story
Spot is a playful cattle dog mix. His DOB is 5/5/2018. He is housetrained, crate trained, and does good on car rides (he actually loves them!).Loves playing in the water, he's a wonderful walker. He will let you know when he has to potty by going straight to the door and whining. When you tell him to go to bed, he'll go right into his kennel and relax. Spot is a little dog selective, so a meet and greet with potential fur siblings is a must! He has gotten along great with two other male dogs at this point. Spot is untrusting when first meeting people but with one or two walks and some treats he'll be just fine and love you. While he can learn to trust, he needs patience and not someone that will immediately start pushing boundaries. New people coming into his home makes him nervous as well, so a home where he can chill out in his kennel when guests are around, or one where guests aren't frequent, would be best for this pretty guy. Spot is a cuddle-bug once he is comfortable, this sweet guy would be a wonderful protector to anyone. Overall Spot is bestest boy who gets overlooked, he just needs the right home! Spot is fixed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and ready to go home with you. Adopters can complete the adoption application at www.havenoftheozarks.org/adopt. The Haven is open every day from 9 AM - 4 PM. No appointment needed for adopters.

Story
Rika what a fun little gal!! She is a standard size aussie when she is full grown. She loves to play and she loves snuggles too. She is simple gorgeous. One would never know she is deaf. So because of that I am going to say she is a special needs baby. She is super smart so I believe she will pick up on hand signals pretty fast. She has already been spayed, is up to date on vaccines, heartworm prevention, and flea / tick . Now all that is left is contact us to come and meet her and possibly take her home for Christmas.
