Story
Mr. Tux is a handsome, 1-year-old, 61 lb loyal sweetheart.  He is incredibly obedient and intelligent; already well-versed in commands knowing sit, paw, stay, down, and "no." He even stays in place when served food until released. He loves people, gets along great with other dogs, and even showed polite curiosity toward cats, though he hasn’t lived with them yet.  Mr. Tux was saved at the literal 11th hour because he was struggling to settle into the kennel environment while in Georgia.  He was losing weight, stressed, and clearly unhappy though he never showed an ounce of aggression.  Down South, the reality for so many dogs is being the first on the euthanasia list if you cannot live in a shelter environment due to overcrowding. Hearing his story, we had to step in and now, Mr. Tux is safe in NJ with a foster family who adores him and says he quickly fell into the routine and rules of the home. Mr. Tux is crate-trained and house-trained; even alerting you with a noseboop to the door handle or a bark if he needs to go outdoors.  He enjoys all the good things in life—cuddling, sunbathing, playing with toys (though stuffies are no match for him), fetching balls, and heading out on adventures.  He can be energetic, so we do recommend a family who has a fenced in yard, so he has the perfect place to burn off energy.  Though by the end of the day, he's ready to stretch out and take up his fair share of the couch while lounging on your lap! While well-meaning, Mr. Tux is a strong guy and does not seem to be aware of his size. He also loves to give hugs and kisses.  Because of this, we recommend a household with only adults or older children only.    Mr. Tux is microchipped, neutered, and up to date on vaccines—ready to start his new life with a family who will love him forever. His adoption fee is $415. For an affectionate lovebug of a dog, apply for MR. TUX ATHENS at EHRDOGS.ORG. May 20, 2026, 4:55 am

Story
This little 30 lb, 1-year-old girl is named Penny, and she is one very lucky penny indeed to have been rescued! Her foster family refers to her as "Sweet P." As she has been warming up in a new foster home, her personality is really starting to shine through despite what she has gone through in the past. Penny was rescued from a situation in a rural area overcrowded with dogs where there isn't enough food for them to eat. She had lived with dozens of cats before. Penny has closed that account of her life and is ready to invest in a new loving home. Penny is house trained, is doing well with crate training, is super well-behaved, and an obedient pup. She does walk great on the leash, but it may take a bit of coaxing to actually get the leash on her. Penny is a shy girl, but she is very sweet. She is timid around men, new people, and loud noises but has not shown any aggression.  Due to this, Penny should be in a home with no children or older, considerate, gentle children only. While she does not seem interested in toys much, give her a stick from the yard and she is after it! It's the simple things after all. She gets the zoomies, loves pets to her ears, tummy, and butt scratches, and enjoys a long walk. One thing about Penny is she does not seem to be a big fan of stairs, though, her foster family is working on this with her. Penny is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $415. While pennies usually are not worth much, this Penny will make you rich beyond measure! Deposit this darling into your heart and home by applying for PENNY SCAS at www.ehrdogs.org. May 20, 2026, 4:55 am

The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Story
If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick, then Joey is your guy. We think this gorgeous, tricolor male could be a cross between an Australian Shepard and an English Shepard, both of which are very intelligent breeds. Joey walks well on a leash, even though he pulls a bit, and rides well in a car. Joey gets along well with other dogs and loves to play with the dogs in his foster home. Joey would make a great hiking buddy as he is always ready for an adventure. He was picked up as a stray and is guesstimated to be between 3-5 years old. Due to his activity level, we think he is closer to 3 years old. He was thin when first rescued but has put on over 10 pounds and appears to be at his optimal weight at 46.4 pounds on 3/26/26. Joey has been neutered, is to up to date on vaccinations and is microchipped. Unfortunately, Joey did test positive for heartworms, but the good news is that since he is asymptomatic for heartworms, he is on the slow kill method to eliminate them and he should test negative in a year or two. In the meantime, he can live life normally without any restrictions. Joey is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and being kept on monthly heartworm and flea and tick prevention to maintain his good health. Joey’s adoption donation is $450 which includes the $165 transport fee. Joey is being fostered in Arkansas. If you would like to adopt Joey, please fill out an adoption application. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

Story
Our longest stay dog with the biggest heart we've ever had!  In December 2024, when Houston experienced some of its coldest nights of the year, a frightened dog was running loose through a neighborhood—alone, confused, and terrified. That dog was Brody. Brody had been abandoned. He didn’t understand why the people he once depended on were suddenly gone, and he didn’t trust anyone who tried to help. Every time someone approached, Brody ran. He refused to be touched, choosing fear over the risk of being hurt again. While families stayed warm inside their homes, Brody survived the freezing nights on his own, carrying nothing but instinct and fear. For weeks, our volunteers showed up for him—patiently, quietly, without expectations. No chasing. No pressure. Just food, gentle voices, and consistency. Slowly, Brody began to realize that these humans were different. Eventually, he allowed himself to step into a backyard where we set up heat lamps and an enclosed kennel to protect him from the cold. That kennel became his safe place. For the first time in weeks, Brody could rest without fear. He grew fond of that little space because it meant warmth, safety, and choice—things he hadn’t had in a long time. But Brody’s journey didn’t end there. He was absolutely terrified of a leash. To Brody, it felt like losing control all over again. So we went at his pace. Days turned into weeks, weeks into months. Every small step mattered—letting the leash be near him, touching it, standing calmly with it, learning that it didn’t mean danger. And then one day, Brody walked. Today, Brody walks on a leash—a milestone that represents so much more than movement. It represents trust. Healing. Courage. It represents a dog who once ran from every human, choosing instead to walk beside one. Brody’s story is a reminder that broken doesn’t mean hopeless, and scared doesn’t mean unlovable. Sometimes, all it takes is time, patience, and someone willing to believe. Brody believed. And now, he’s learning how to live again. Age: Approximately 3 years Size: Low profile! Short and thick Weight: About 30 lbs.  Neutered: YES Housebroken: YES Kennel Trained: YES Vaccines: Current Microchip: YES Good with dogs: YES - AMAZING! Good with cats: unknown Good with kids: If the kids are trained :) Handicap: Requires lots of snuggles! March 7, 2026, 1:56 pm
