Story
Meet Rico, he is 8 years old and 35lbs.   His owner has cancer and can longer care for him so he is looking for a new place to love him through the next chapter of his life.  Rico is a handsome Aussie/Terrier mix of sorts! If he was a food order he would be ordered as one medium floof nugget, with a side of smiles- tail waggin sized, with all the dippin sauces of happiness. This guy has grins that just won‘t quit, loves him some car rides, enjoys being bribed with treats for tricks, isn’t much of a kisser, and relishes all the attention he deserves to receive.  Rico loves kids and loves to play tug with them or another dog.   Rico is easy to love, gets along great with dogs and and kids. He walks good on leash and is housebroken and crate trained. He is a true gentleman and is ready for that special person(s) to give him his well-deserved furever home. He is waiting to meet you! Neutered, heartworm tested, recent dental, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for adoption!  He is hit and miss with cats so a calm cat that does not do much he would have less of an issue with.  An active cat that will hiss and get in his business is not a match.  To help pay for vet bills and care (transportation, food, toys, etc..) a $100 donation is requested at the time of adoption. All of our adoptions are contingent upon an approved application, home visit, reference check, obedience training agreement, and signing of adoption contract. All our dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before adoption. Our dogs are companion animals that live indoors as part of your family. Please do not apply if your plan is to have them as outside dogs, garage dogs, porch dogs or outside kennel dogs.  We do not ship dogs.   All of our dogs are in private foster homes. We are not a shelter with hours. A visit can be arranged after an adoption questionnaire has been filled out and sent in. Please try to email first. We are all volunteers that work so we can not easily take or make phone calls.January 12, 2026, 2:48 pm

Story
Millie is about 6 years old, she is Australian Shepard/Border Collie Mix. Very sweet dog, friendly, likes people but is weary of strangers and will bark at them initially which makes her a good watchdog. She has never bitten anyone. Great with cats, we have a cat that she plays with. She will sometimes be weary of other dogs and will bark at them, but warms up to them pretty quick. She is very loyal to her owner, at least she is with us - we have had her since she was a puppy.

Story
FOSTERED IN SIOUX CITY Name-Billy Bob Age-2ish. Exact age unknown but vet agrees around 2. Breed-Australia Shepherd What was your life like before NDCB/Where did you come from? I came from a breeding farm with 40 plus dogs. Who is your main caretaker/favorite person now? My foster mom but warming up to foster dad. Are you good with kids? Slow introductions are required, as I’m a tad nervous at first, but then I don’t mind them. What age ranges? 5 year old and up! Are you good with other dogs? Yes big and little. I love other dogs and would do best with a fur sibling Are you good with cats? Yes. I ignore them. I was raised with kitties so they are friends. Are you housebroken? Working on potty training as I’ve never lived inside a home before, but I’m super smart and picking it up quickly. What is your current potty routine? I am let out about every hour. Working on just going to door to go out. Do you like car rides? They are ok. I’m still a tad nervous as I haven’t had many of them yet. Do you like walks? Yes How are you on a leash? I have mastered the leash now! Do you like toys? Not at this time. I’ve never had toys before, so I don’t quite understand what they are just yet. Do you know any commands/tricks? I know my name. I will stay. And I can walk on my back legs. I also know sit and down. How are your house manners? I do not get on furniture. I am pretty respectable in the house if I do say so myself. Describe your personality-I will come up to my fosters for love and affection. I’m a little nervous but getting better. I sleep all night in my kennel. I love to get brushed. Describe your perfect home- My perfect home would be either a couple or a single person. I would like to have a brother or sister. Fenced in yard so I can run around and play! Somebody patient who will understand that I need a tiny bit of time to come out out of my shell but once I do, I will absolutely be your best friend for life💙

Story
Chase is a friendly Australian Shepherd, born in June 2025.  He he house trained, crate trained, fetches and knows some commands (come, sit, lay down, etc).  Chase gets along with other dogs, strangers and kids of all ages.  He needs a fenced yard with room to run and play.  Bonus points if he's allowed his own spot to dig in the yard! The perfect home for Chase would be with an active family so he gets lots of exercise.  He would be okay with or without kids in the home.  He cannot be in a home with any small animals.  Australian Shepherds have herding instincts and sometimes a higher prey drive.  They are prone to chasing small animals. Chase will also benefit from additional training because Australian Shepherds thrive on mental stimulation and exercise. The suggested adoption donation for Chase is $415, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Please Note:  A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. To learn about Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue or donate to our animals, please visit our website at MuddyPawsSecondChanceRescue.com or our Facebook Page Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue Inc.   If the dog or cat you adopt is older than 6 months of age and not spayed or neutered, you will receive a voucher to alter the pet at Val Verde Animal Hospital in Omaha, at no cost to you.  Or you can alter the pet at your own vet and be reimbursed $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats, of total cost.  If the dog or cat is younger than 6 months of age, adopter will be responsible for the cost of altering the pet at the vet of their choice.  If proof of alter is received by Muddy Paws prior to the pet turning 6 months of age, a reimbursement of $100 for dogs and $50 for cats, will be sent to you to help cover expenses.  [Muddy Paws can also suggest a vet with a reduced cost for alters.]  All puppies and kittens MUST be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age.  All dogs and cats MUST be spayed or neutered no later than one month after adoption is finalized.  Thank you in advance for your compliance. ##2673234##
