Story
Name: Miss Norma Jeannie (spayed female) Age: 1-2 years old Breed: Mini Australian Shepard What was your life like before NDCB/where did you come from: I came from a home with 40 other dogs in kennels. Who is your main caretaker/favorite person now? My foster mom. Are you good with kids? I keep my distance with the 16 and 14 year old in the home, I am still a nervous girl. Are you good with other dogs? Yes, I have come to love my foster sisters. Jewel is an Australian Shepard (7) and Betty a mixed breed (2). We have a really rambunctious time together. Are you good with cats? Yes, I have been around 5 cats and they don’t interest me very much. Do I like car rides? I have been enjoying traveling with my foster mom to and from her office. I love looking out the windows on the way and sleeping on the way home. Do you like walks? We have gone on short walks as I am still a little nervous being followed. How are you on a leash? I am really trying my hardest to adjust to the leash. I love to chew on it and do an occasional acrobatic stunt when it’s on me. With time and patience I will enjoy it! Do you like toys? Yes I love my chew toys and love watching my foster sisters retrieve their ball. I would like to add that to my list of hobbies soon! Do you know any commands/tricks? I’m still pretty shy working on my commands. How are your house manners? I still will pace back and forth when at my home. It will improve soon. My foster mom didn’t like me crying at night so she lets me sleep in her bed, I do very well all night. I need a back yard that is fenced in so I can feel the freedom off the leash. I need lots of love and a patient human to show me truly how to be a dog.

FOSTERED IN COUNCIL BLUFFS/Omaha Name - Gigi - Spayed Female Age - around 1 Breed - Mini Aussie What was your life before NDCB - I came from a breeding farm with 40+ dogs Who is your Main caretaker/favorite person now? My favorite person is my foster dad. I let him pick me up an will sit in his lap. I am nervous with my foster mom, I run from her. I will give her kisses on the hand. Are you good with kids? What ages? I peed a lot in the house when kids under 12 were here for the holidays. I liked the 14yr & 18 yr old. So older kids are good. Nothing under 12 please. Are you good with other dogs? My favorite buddy is a 1 1/2 yr old black lab, we play a lot together. I am not a fan of the 13 yr old female Doberman. Are you good with cats? In the beginning I growled and barked, but now they dont phase me. Are you house broken? What is your potty routine? I have a few accidents in the house. When I get nervous I tend to have more. I sleep at night in my kennel so first thing in the morning then right after I eat breakfast. Do you like car rides? I dont whine or bark. I rather be in the kennel in the car then just in the back seat. Do you like walks? Not yet, I just want to chew the harness off. It got super cold and couldn't practice a lot. Do you like toys? Yes, I love the tough hides, and the soft plush toys. I also love to steal my buddy's toys and on occasion play tug with my bestie the lab. Do you know any commands or tricks? No, I am trying, but I am so nervous How are your house manners? I am good until I want attention from my best buddy, then I will bark at him. I dont jump on the couch, I will come up to my foster dad and put my paws on him to get love and attention. Describe your personality - I am one nervous dog, I tend to pace a lot. I will sometimes come when my foster dad calls me. I love getting love and affection, it's just so hard for me to not be scared at first. I have had my paws washed with no issues. I have never barked or growled at my foster parents. I love playing in the back yard and running with my best friend. I did not like the house full of people over the holidays so I wouldn't come in the house. My foster dad have to come out and pick me up. I dont shake that much now being picked up. My perfect home would be a place with no young children, maybe another Young dog as I do love playing. I dont mind cats. Need someone who is going to be really patient with me and can help me be a more confident dog. I seem to do better with a male figure as my previous care takers were male. Please understand I am not going to instantly love you at a meet and greet it is going to take me a few days to warm up to anybody new and a new environment initially but I promise I’m worth the patience!!!!

Story
Meet Rico, he is 8 years old and 35lbs.   His owner has cancer and can longer care for him so he is looking for a new place to love him through the next chapter of his life.  Rico is a handsome Aussie/Terrier mix of sorts! If he was a food order he would be ordered as one medium floof nugget, with a side of smiles- tail waggin sized, with all the dippin sauces of happiness. This guy has grins that just won‘t quit, loves him some car rides, enjoys being bribed with treats for tricks, isn’t much of a kisser, and relishes all the attention he deserves to receive.  Rico loves kids and loves to play tug with them or another dog.   Rico is easy to love, gets along great with dogs and and kids. He walks good on leash and is housebroken and crate trained. He is a true gentleman and is ready for that special person(s) to give him his well-deserved furever home. He is waiting to meet you! Neutered, heartworm tested, recent dental, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for adoption!  He is hit and miss with cats so a calm cat that does not do much he would have less of an issue with.  An active cat that will hiss and get in his business is not a match.  To help pay for vet bills and care (transportation, food, toys, etc..) a $100 donation is requested at the time of adoption. All of our adoptions are contingent upon an approved application, home visit, reference check, obedience training agreement, and signing of adoption contract. All our dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before adoption. Our dogs are companion animals that live indoors as part of your family. Please do not apply if your plan is to have them as outside dogs, garage dogs, porch dogs or outside kennel dogs.  We do not ship dogs.   All of our dogs are in private foster homes. We are not a shelter with hours. A visit can be arranged after an adoption questionnaire has been filled out and sent in. Please try to email first. We are all volunteers that work so we can not easily take or make phone calls.January 12, 2026, 2:48 pm

Story
Fostered in Council Bluffs Name- Nutmeg Age- 7 months Breed- Kelpie mix What was your life like before NDCB/Where did you come from? I was found as a stray in South Sioux City. The animal shelter called the sweet people at the Rescue and asked them to take me so I wouldn’t be euthanized. Who is your main caretaker/favorite person now? Foster mom and dad. Are you good with kids? What age ranges?my foster home had a two year old. Kids are fun as long as they play with me! I am a high energy breed so tiny tots might be a little overwhelmed by my enthusiastic greetings but I never mean any harm. Are you good with other dogs? Be VERY specific here I’m great I love to play. Sometimes I get a little rough and need to be told to chill so I would probably be a little too much for senior dogs. But playful dogs…I am ALL IN!!! Are you good with cats? Well., I am a herding/farm breed so cats are REAL fun to chase. I probably shouldn’t be in a home with cats unless you are super dog savvy and can train me to leave them alone. As it stands, I will absolutely chase a furry kitty in the home and I might attempt to get the squeaker out 😬😬 Are you housebroken? I am doing so well in Foster! I have only had one accident inside the home and now my foster siblings have showed me to ring bells when I wanna go outside. It’s pretty cool! What is your current potty routine? I ring bells at my foster home to go outside! Do you like car rides? Yes! I love to ride! I hop right in any car however I should be seatbelted in because sometimes I try and sit in your lap while you’re driving. How was I supposed to know Mom was gonna freak out about that🤷🏻‍♀️ I just wanted to cuddle, her screaming was really unnecessary. Do you like walks? How are you on a leash? What’s a leash? I’m still trying to learn. Do you like toys? What is your favorite toy? Squeaky toys are the very best! But I also like hooves Do you know any commands/tricks? Not yet but will you teach me? I’m super smart and eager to learn. How are your house manners? I’m a bit of a bull in a china shop. I bounce and run and play but I also snuggle. Describe your personality- as I just said I Am a lot. But with some training and love I would be perfect Describe your perfect home-I definitely need a fur sibling who can match my energy. I love to play and love all dogs. I would love a home with an active family member. I would be a great running partner or hiking buddy! I currently sleep in bed with my foster parents and would love to continue that. I’m not a bed hog. I go right to the bottom of the bed and go to sleep.
