Josiah is a loving, goofy, stubborn guy who is happiest when he’s hanging out with his people—or taking a well-earned nap! He absolutely loves people and will happily soak up all the attention you’re willing to give. When he really wants your attention, he makes the most adorable Chewbacca-like sounds. Fair warning: when Josiah gets excited, he can be enthusiastic enough to knock a grown man over! Josiah is potty trained and does well in his kennel. He walks nicely on a leash when heading out for potty breaks and exercise. He’s also a champion road-trip companion and seems perfectly content cruising along with his people. He’s working on commands and hand signals, although, true to his stubborn personality, he sometimes feels that following directions is more of a suggestion than a requirement. He loves bones, keeping an eye on the neighborhood, and generally being his family’s personal security guard. He’s a big, lovable goofball with a lazy side and a strong protective streak. Because Josiah is deaf, his family will need to communicate with him through hand signals and other visual cues. He is smart and capable, but consistency and patience will be important. Josiah does have some specific needs that his future family will need to understand and be prepared to manage. He is protective of his people and his kennel and does not do well with other dogs entering what he considers his territory. He can also become growly and snappy around other dogs or people when high-value treats are involved. For this reason, careful management, appropriate boundaries, and continued training will be important. Josiah also has significant medical needs. He has allergies and has had a portion of his small intestine removed, so he requires a very specific diet. He takes daily supplements with his food and needs daily wipe-downs to help manage his allergies. He has completed treatment for heartworm disease and will need monthly heartworm prevention year-round for the rest of his life. Despite all of that, Josiah has so much love to give. He’s a funny, affectionate, loyal companion who loves his people, loves his naps, and has plenty of personality packed into one goofy package. At home, she’s the ultimate cuddle companion—always ready for pets and snuggles, especially if it involves relaxing on the couch under a cozy blanket. When she’s comfortable, Opal is happy to settle in and relax, but she also enjoys following her people around the house like a loyal little shadow. True to his name, this goofy guy brings plenty of laughs wherever he goes. He’s an outgoing, friendly dog who enjoys meeting new people and making friends wherever he can. Stinkbug has a playful, energetic side and absolutely loves spending time with other dogs. He can get a little rowdy during playtime, but he’s respectful with confident dogs who enjoy a good wrestle and chase. While he finds cats very interesting and may chase them, it’s out of curiosity rather than aggression—he’s already improving with guidance, but his enthusiasm can still be a bit much for most feline friends. He’s wonderful with kids, but like any happy bulldog mix, he can be a bit of a “bull in a china shop” and may accidentally knock over the tiniest humans. This happy pup enjoys staying active and does great on walks. He walks nicely on a leash and would love a family that enjoys getting outside for daily strolls and adventures. After some playtime or exercise, Stinkbug is just as happy to settle down for cuddles and relax with his people. Things about me you might like to know: Breed: Terrier/bulldog Mix Color: Brindle/White Size: 33pounds ( short and stocky like a bulldog) Age: Approximately 2-3 years Activity level: Low/Medium Skye wants to tell you about herself: Things I do in my free time: I am a pretty chill girl, I spend most of my day relaxing. I am easily entertained watching the squirrels run along the fence in the yard or chillin’ on the porch in the sun. I love attention and snuggling with my human friends! I am content with a Kong, tennis ball, squeaky toy or chew bone. Things I know: I know how to sit for treats. I have basic house manners, and I respond well if I am corrected. I am not the destructive type. Things I am working on: I could use basic training. I am learning not to jump on my human friends when I meet them. For the most part my foster family thinks I am pretty close to perfection. Kennel: I currently use a kennel when my foster family is at work. I am OK not kenneled at night and am content to lay on the couch, in my kennel or snuggle with you in bed. Potty training: Bonus! I am 100% potty trained. The home I am currently in uses a fenced yard. Kids: I currently live with two adults. I do like to jump on my human friends when I am excited, so I will need work if I am around smaller children. Venus was rescued back in October. Her first week in rescue was 24/7 hospital care on IV liquids, antibiotics, and pain medicine. Her diagnosis included several broken ribs (likely from humans kicking her). We have a strong inkling that Venus somehow escaped from the life of a bait dog for dog fighting which sadly is commonplace in our state. She was very thin, every bone in her body was protruding and she had very infected abcesses all over her body from bite wounds. She had heartworms and has completed the full treatment. She has made a complete recovery and is ready to be a part of a family, something she has never had before! She does not get along with other dogs. Cats aren’t her thing either, but she makes up for it with loyalty, affection, and the sweetest temperament. Venus is ready to brighten someone’s world. Could it be yours?
