You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Stop by Bentleys in Excelsior Sunday 12/10 from 12:30-2:00 pm. to meet me! Bentleys (400 Water St, Excelsior, MN 55331) will be hosting Underdogs for an adoption event. I will be there! Please email inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com for questions regarding the dogs. Hi, I'm Thalia!  I am great with dogs of all sizes and love to learn all about this new life. I have a huge bulldog smile and love showing it off!  I walk well on leash outside and love to check out this new world.  I am kennel trained and keep it clean, while being quiet and resting until you come back home!  Potty training is going well, when I am kept on a good consistent schedule.  Right now, I do go potty in a fenced yard, but if you don't have a fence, we'd just have to work on pottying on leash together!  Foster mom says I am not a flight risk because being right near you is my favorite place to be - in fact, sometimes the humans trip over me because I'm right under them!  I'm a quiet girl and have not made a peep since being here, so if you are in an apartment or have shared walls, that would work for me! I'm a happy, fun loving girl who is ready for my family so I can keep learning and exploring! Is that you? Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared.  Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses .   Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.   Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a    particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.     Bulldogs are a member of the Brachycephalic breed and therefore have a host of health issues that may arise.  Because these dogs are new into our rescue, health issues in the future may arise that we are not aware of.  Some of these issues are allergies, eye issues, yeast infections, interdigital cysts, slipped disks in their back, breathing problems, among a host of others that can occur at any time or when seasons change. While breed experience is not required, we encourage you to thoroughly research the breed and its financial, medical, and environmental needs to be sure the breed is a good fit for you and your family.  It is estimated that the average bulldog owner spends $2,000 per year on medical needs.    Bulldogs are one of the most expensive dogs to own, maintain, and rescue and our adoption fees reflect such expenses.  The application process for bulldogs usually moves quite quickly as they are a popular breed, so we ask that adopters do research and be prepared for adoption at the time you submit your application.  They are happy, goofy, playful characters and we are excited you are taking the first steps into rescuing one!   This dog requires an application fee.  This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.    We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion. Bulldog Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the bulldog. Our goal is place bulldogs in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the bulldog, we will not approve your application. To meet Thalia, please fill out a bulldog app here https://underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/bulldogs/   ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  DO B:  05/01/2018 Requires another dog in home: Yes, a social and confident dog  Okay with dogs of all sizes: Yes Okay with cats: Yes Okay with children under 12 years old: Yes Weight: 43 lbs Requires a fenced yard:   Yes, needs a fenced yard Note: dogs must always be leashed whenever outside of a contained area. Invisible/ underground fencing is not recommended for most rescue dogs. I am pretty proud of myself!  I’ve come a long way since I first came here and I’ve learned so much thanks to the other dogs in my foster home, so I do require a social and confident dog in my forever home. That will help me gain confidence, get on a routine and learn all the important dog things! It does take me a while to warm up to both people and new dogs, but once I do, I am less afraid. My people are working with me on my dog skills. We started practicing walking on a leash and I freeze! But if you promise to keep practicing with me, I don’t need a fenced yard in my forever home. I am hoping you have patience while we both learn what works best for me and you. We are also working on my potty skills. I know I supposed to go outside but get a little worried, so foster mom carries me out the door and sometimes has to carry me back inside. Sometimes I get worried and do a little tinkle inside the house when I’m excited, this includes little accidents in the kennel too. I am trying my best to be brave, and I know in a calm home and full of patience we can practice together.   Everyday I am blossoming a bit more – I recently started showing interest in dog toys and foster mom was so excited! I have also started to wander around the house and not hide in my kennel. Foster mom used to have to coax me to into other areas of the house, but I am gaining some confidence by following the other dogs around. I am a timid but happy girl and would thrive in a home that has the patience to help me learn how to be the best dog I can be. My ideal forever home will be able to provide a safe space for me, has experience with shy dogs and loads of unconditional love! It may take a while, but I promise if you try your best I will too! ** Can only be seen by appointment: 651-772-8983 **Well hey there! My name is Gus and I'm a handsome, 5 year old Bulldog mix. I was picked up by St. Paul Animal Control and my owner was never found so I was transferred to Animal Ark. I can be a bit shy with new people so I would need some time to get to know you, but I am a sweet boy. I need to go to a home with a fenced in yard, with no children or small animals, and with someone who is willing to teach me how to be a well-mannered boy. I would also need a slow introduction to any potential canine siblings. I am very treat motivated and very smart. Since I'm such a special boy, I can only be met with an approved adoption application. If you think I might be a good fit for you, please contact the shelter!

Story
A portion of Nini's adoption fee has been sponsored by her friends at The Murray Fund. The adoption fee sponsorship credit of $325.00 will be applied during the contract process Hi, my name is Nini! History: Owner Surrender From the Foster: Hi, I'm Nini but my foster family calls me Nellie. Please read my whole bio before applying for me. I know I'm cute but I've got some specific needs for my forever home. I'm a young old English Bulldog and I'm special needs. I've been with my foster family for several months. I have several special needs my foster Mom will list them below. I'm here to talk about the fun stuff! I'm squishy, I'm cute, I love basically everyone and everything! I didn't learn bite inhibition as a young pup so I can be rough when I'm mouthy and playing but I redirect to a toy easily and play gentle for the most part. I love to be outside in all seasons! Nothing is better than being outside rolling on the ground! My doggy foster siblings are my rock they keep me stimulated with my limitations and I would really benefit from a tolerant playful pup friend. I am crate trained to a playpen and need to sleep in my special bed naked (see below). I'm quiet and sleep all night peacefully but it's best not to have me in your bedroom as it's occasionally a stinky affair. I love to snuggle with my people and getting scratchies is the best! I don't have typical basic training but I have my own version of most basic training. I have lots of needs for my forever home so please read what my Mom writes about my needs! From my foster mom: Nellie has several chronic medical conditions including: suspected spina bifida resulting in little use of her rear limbs total incontinence of bladder and bowels frequent UTIs potential elongation of soft pallet resulting in regurgitation of water and a fragile/chronic wound of her anus. Let me explain what that means for a home. Nellie needs someone home more often than not she needs very frequent diaper changes (currently every 4-6hr but can go up to 8 occasionally) she needs to sleep naked to let her skin breath which means the potential for lots of dirty laundry and cleaning she is currently staying clean overnight but it can change if she gets an upset belly. She needs someone who can handle expressing her urine and feces (I will teach you how to do this) and isn't squeamish around bodily fluids or wounds I promise it isn't as scary as it sounds. Her people need to be able to lift/carry Nellie (40lb). She needs a home with minimal/no stairs and preferably another playful and tolerant pup to keep her stimulated (not required just preferred we will chat about other stimulation methods if no other dogs and she wouldn't mind being the center of attention!) No really small children - Nellie can be mouthy when she plays and she is prone to spinal injuries which could result in loss of what mobility she has is her rear legs. Nellie also needs a family who is very financially secure as she will be a more expensive dog. From gathering supplies needed to bring her home to frequent vet visits she will cost more than your average dog. I will send a list of our favorite products for Nellie but you can get creative on your own too. This will not be a very quick adoption there is a lot to learn and several visits can be made to get to know Nellie and comfortable with all her needs. Nellie is extra work but she is SO worth it she is a sweet little wrinkle butt and she gives her whole heart to her people and she radiates the love and gratefulness to her caretakers and a bond unlike any other forms that makes the extra care seem like nothing. If you've made it this far and think you have a home for Nellie fill out an app to discuss her with us! Through the course of my veterinary care at Secondhand Hounds it was found that I most likely have spina bifida which causes secondary fecal and urine incontinence and I do wear diapers for this. I was also diagnosed with masticatory muscle myositis (MMM) which is an immune system disorder that causes difficulty opening and closing the jaw muscles involved with chewing. I was treated with steroids for this and I have responded very well to them!

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hello, my name is Milan. I am a stunning and quiet adult female French Bulldog who is still learning about something foster mom calls “cuddling,” but I love to play with toys, play tug-o-war, get loves & belly rubs, greet my family with my beautiful smile, and frolic with & chase my wonderful foster fur brother whom I adore! In fact, I need to have a playmate at my new home too because having a friend is…well, it’s priceless! Oh yeah, I almost forgot to tell you that I give the BEST kisses EVER!! I have not met any cats but I’m good with kids and when it comes to new people/situations, I’m fearful and my body trembles but I’m not reactive and frankly kinda sweet once I figure out what's going on. I am crate trained and mom is really good about taking me outside regularly, so I’m pretty much potty trained too and haven’t had an accident for quite a while…YAY ME!! As for the leash/harness…I don’t know what it is, but it scares me, and I will not walk on leash. That said, I do love to run around the yard so my new one will need to be fenced. I am a preciously sweet girl who has come a long way since living with foster mom and I am simply looking for the fur-ever home I SO richly deserve. All I need now is YOU…a patient, unconditionally loving family that will NEVER give up on me. I promise not only am I worth it and will love you more than life but if you welcome me into your world, I will even show you how I adorably run jump like a bunny! Hee, hee! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Hello, potential forever family! I'm Amabel, a charming Frenchie with a heart full of love. Let me share a bit about myself. Love and cuddles are my specialties! I'm a little shy at first, especially around the man of the house, but give me a moment, and I'll open up like a flower in bloom. I'm all about kisses, cuddling on the couch, and being the perfect companion. I'm not a picky eater – baby carrots, cheese, and a little warm water on my kibble make my tail wag with joy! As for toys, give me those small stretch rubber squeaky ones or any bone, and I'm a happy pup. Okay, let's address the elephant in the room – I'm a bit leery of men. It takes me a little time to warm up, but once I do, I'm a lovebug.  I'm still working on the whole potty training thing, but I'm close, especially with a good schedule. I sleep in my kennel at night, but if I had my way, your bed would be my preferred snooze spot. A fenced yard is a must for me. I'm not a big fan of pottying on a leash, and I could use a bit more practice on it. Leash walking is in progress – I might pull a bit, but I'm working towards being a polite walker. I'm good with dogs of all sizes, but I don't need a furry friend to keep me company as long as there are humans around a lot. I prefer similar-sized doggie pals if it comes to that.  I'm not much of a barker – only a couple of times so far. I do have a bit of a protective side, sometimes guarding my human from other furry family members. It's just my way of showing love, so be sure to pay attention to me.  I'm a happy girl who loves to snuggle on the couch. If you're ready for a cuddle companion who will steal your heart, look no further. I'm waiting to shower you with love, kisses, and a lifetime of joy! *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared.  Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses.   Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.   Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Hello there, wonderful humans! I'm Malia, a timid yet loving French Bulldog on a quest to find my forever family. Let me tell you a bit about myself. My foster family describes me as a calm girl who's still learning to express her affection for people. I enjoy being in the mix and love being wherever my humans are, even if it's just snoozing at their feet while they brush their teeth – hee hee! I have a unique talent – I can fall asleep in 30 seconds flat if you give me a good belly rub. Mornings are when I'm at my peak energy, and I might just make a sound like a turkey out of pure excitement! I'm happy to ride in the car and explore different spaces. If things get a bit overwhelming, I'll find my crate or bed and take a snooze to recharge. I'm kid-friendly and handle chaotic environments like a champ. Playing and taking an interest in toys are still on my learning list, but I'm getting there. High activity doesn't faze me at all. I'm a good student when it comes to basic commands like sit, leave it, wait, go potty, and kennel, but still a work in progress. Treats don't catch my interest much, but affection from my people? Now, that's my favorite! Leash training is a work in progress, but I'm doing well with potty breaks. Accidents have happened indoors, but I'm improving, and I've never gone potty in my crate. Stairs are a bit tricky, especially larger flights, but I'm learning. I'm not a fan of the cold, so a stylish jacket is a must for me. I'm great with other dogs, regardless of their size, and I'm fine being the only furry friend as long as my humans are around. I do bark when left alone, but who can blame me? I just miss my people. I'm also respectful around cats. I may be slow to warm up, but once I know I can trust you, I become a cuddle bug. I'll fall asleep in your arms or at your feet, bringing joy and calm affection to your life. I'm easy-going and ready to be the joy in a family or individual's life. So, lovely humans, could you be the ones to open your hearts to me? I promise to bring endless love, cuddles, and joy to your life! This is reflected within her adoption fee.
