Story
Woody is a sweet, affectionate boy who loves nothing more than gentle belly rubs and cozy evening snuggles. He’s a loving companion with a playful, active side that will keep you smiling. This energetic pup enjoys a couple of walks each day and absolutely lives for fetch, especially with tennis balls. He’ll politely drop the ball near your feet for another throw, but he also has a hilarious habit of entertaining himself by tossing it, catching it, and zooming around in happy circles. He’s a big fan of his toys and is learning to keep his chewing focused on those instead of household items. Woody is fully potty trained and sleeps soundly in his kennel at night. He’s also great for baths and warm-water rinses, making his grooming routine a breeze. He’s an intelligent dog who already knows “sit” and is working on “down.” His leash manners are coming along nicely, and with continued guidance and a patient adopter Woody will blossom into an even more well-mannered, obedient companion. If you’re looking for a fun, smart, and affectionate dog to grow with, Woody just might be the perfect match. Could he be the one for you? 🐾 All CSHS pups are spayed/neutered, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, 4DX negative (if older than 6 months), dewormed and microchipped. Story
Petey is a 30-lb Border Collie mix—or a small dog with a big personality! At 2-years-old, he's a sassy younger sibling to his foster brother Max, always riling Max up in a hilarious way. Petey loves to taunt his brother with his hilariously cute "tough guy" growl when they play, making sure Max knows it's out of love, so they can end up in a classic cuddle puddle. Petey is house-trained and always eager to please. He lets you know when it’s time to go outside and is full of energy and fun. He is crate-trained, but does not enjoy being in the kennel alone. While he’s still learning some manners, he’s as sweet and good-natured as they come.Petey gets along wonderfully with other dogs and absolutely loves having a canine buddy to play and wrestle with—his foster brother has been a huge help in bringing out his confidence and playful side. He gets excited when seeing other dogs on walks, always ready to make a new friend. He’s also good with kids, but since he can be a jumper when he’s excited, a proper introduction is recommended first. Petey cannot live with cats.Petey’s favorite things in life are walks, playing fetch, and wrestling with his dog friends. Squeaky toys and plushies get destroyed with him! He’s happiest when he’s active, so Petey will thrive in a home with a fenced yard or a family committed to giving him plenty of daily exercise in other ways. Story
GUST AND HIS BEST FRIENDS PLAN TO BE AT A MEET AND GREET SUNDAY DECEMBER 7 12:30 -2:30 AT PET EVOLUTION ON 1074 GRAND IN ST. PAUL. COME AND CUDDLE AND MAYBE GO HOME WITH A FRIEND FOR THE HOLIDAYS. Gust and his siblings were surrendered to PUP because the owner, who lived in a remote area, could not afford the pups and felt she could not find suitable adopters. The mommy dog is a much loved 30# ‘low rider’ with short legs (pictured). A partner organization agreed to pay for her to be spayed if PUP found homes for the puppies. The owner did a good job of socializing the pups and they arrived in good health. They are well socialized, playful and are enjoying the good life. Gust looks like he is going to be a bit taller than some of his siblings and we expect he will be a mid-sized dog when he is full grown. We did DNA testing on Gust but the results won’t be in until mid December. Dogs from the area who have DNA testing often have 20 or more breeds and nearly always have some shepherd, husky, cattle dog, and even the largest pooches have a bit of Chihuahua. We strongly suspect Gust has some Doxi and maybe some cattle dog in this mix. (Rumor has it that there is a male cattle dog on a neighboring ranch.) The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog. Puppy has been vet checked, (he weighed 7.6# on 12-1) vaccinated and de-wormed. He will need two additional puppy vaccinations plus rabies at the adopter’s expense. We do place puppies outside the metro area if a firm plan for the alter surgery is in place; we do not ship. His required alter surgery is covered by the adoption fee if it is done at 6 months at the PUP clinic. We require that he be altered at 6 months. If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. We are pretty slow at responding to e-mail. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested.

Story
BLITZEN AND HER BEST FRIENDS PLAN TO BE AT A MEET AND GREET SUNDAY DECEMBER 7 12:30 -2:30 AT PET EVOLUTION ON 1074 GRAND IN ST. PAUL. COME AND CUDDLE AND MAYBE GO HOME WITH A FRIEND FOR LIFE. Blitzen and her siblings were born in an abandoned trailer in a very remote rural area. The trailer was strewn with trash and debris, the floor was mostly rotted out and it seemed ready to collapse at any minute. Someone noticed a nursing mom ‘hunting’ (pictured) for food and followed her to the trailer and discovered the puppies. Mom was essentially feral and could not be caught. The pups were about 7 weeks old so the Good Samaritan contacted a PUP volunteer who spent hours carefully finding and catching the puppies. Initially they were very fearful but soon decided a warm bed and a full food bowl were pretty nice. They adapted well to their foster home and people, now loving playing, cuddling with their foster mom and friends. We did DNA testing on one little boy from the litter, but the results won’t be in until mid December. Dogs from the area who have DNA testing often have 20 or more breeds and nearly always have some shepherd, husky, cattle dog, and even the largest pooches have a bit of Chihuahua. We strongly suspect Blitzen has some shepherd in the genetic mix. It is best guess because we don’t have a clue who daddy is and are only guessing at birth date, but we believe that puppy will be in the upper end of mid-size when full grown. She weighed 8.4# at her vet appointment on 12-3. The vet believes pup is 8-9 weeks old now. The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards.
