Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Gretel, a soulful Basset mix born on February 20, 2020. At six years old, she has perfected the art of being a relaxed, well-mannered house companion. Gretel is a professional lounger who is fully potty trained and knows exactly how to behave indoors. While she was adopted as a puppy, she recently returned to us after a misunderstanding with a small child. Because of this, Gretel is looking for an adult-only home where she can be the center of your world. She’s a "people person" who prefers to be your one-and-only pet—no other dogs needed when she has you! If you’re looking for a loyal, low-maintenance best friend to keep your sofa warm, Gretel is your girl. Story
**Trying to get her an appointment at UCAN to be spayed before adoption; will update post if I'm able to! This sweet girl's name is Ruby! We took her in after someone posted her on facebook saying she needed rehomed that night due to them needing to be hospitalized for surgery the next day. She is approx 7 months old and weighs around 35-40 lbs. We think she is a basset hound bully mix of some sort. She is very long and has very short little legs. She has a very goofy, quirky personality and it's impossible not to fall in love with her. She is very submissive and loves all other animals and children. She's a little standoffish meeting new people, but comes around after a few min. She needs a fenced in yard (she has no road safety skills lol). She would also do best in a home with little to no stairs due to her short legs. A perfect home is a must! She is literally the sweetest girl. We were hoping she would work in our home, but we don't have a fence and it is just not safe here.

Story
Meet Denali! At approximately 9 months old, Denali is already showing off his fun-loving personality and charming quirks. We believe he’s a mix of Basset Hound and a larger working breed such as an Anatolian Shepherd, Black Mouth Cur, or similar breed. The result is a handsome low-rider with a big personality, a bigger heart, and an expected adult weight of around 45-50 pounds. Denali loves to play fetch, chase squeaky toys, run around the yard, and be involved in whatever his people are doing. More than anything, he loves his humans and wants to be close to them. If he had his way, he’d spend his days following you from room to room and his evenings curled up beside you on the couch. Denali gets along with dogs and children, but because of his past, he can occasionally be fear-reactive and may stand his ground if challenged by another dog. The good news is that he responds well to correction, is eager to please, and has already made tremendous progress in a very short period of time. We fully expect his confidence to continue growing as he settles into a stable, loving home. While Denali enjoys canine companionship, he would do best with mellow, respectful dog friends. Any resident dogs should be easygoing, and his adopter should be comfortable managing introductions and continuing his positive training. He is not a difficult dog, just a dog who needs a thoughtful leader to help him succeed. Denali's ideal home would be with someone who appreciates a devoted best friend and can provide a calm, structured environment. In return, he’ll offer endless loyalty, affection, and entertainment. He would be especially well-suited for someone familiar with larger working breeds such as Anatolian Shepherds, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Black Mouth Curs, or similar breeds. Experience isn’t required because Denali is “problematic”, it’s simply because understanding how these intelligent, loyal dogs think will help him reach his full potential. Denali has come incredibly far in a short amount of time and continues to show us what a wonderful companion he can be. With patience, consistency, and love, he’s going to make someone an amazing best friend for years to come. If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick, adventure buddy, and oversized lap dog, Denali may just be your perfect match! Denali is currently being fostered in the Cincinnati, OH area. His adoption fee is $275.00. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.

Story
Meet Emma & Murphy — A Love Story with Very Short Legs Some things are simply better together. Peanut butter and jelly. Movies and popcorn. And Emma and Murphy. ❤️ These two bonded Basset Hounds, estimated to be 3–5 years old, have already been through a heartbreaking change together. They once shared a home with their people and three other dog siblings, but when their owners passed away unexpectedly, their whole world changed. Through it all, Emma and Murphy have had one constant: each other. Now they’re looking for a forever home where they can stay side by side. And personality-wise? These two could not be more perfectly mismatched. Emma is the boss. She’s sassy, confident, and quite certain that whatever is happening, she should probably be in charge of it. Emma doesn’t believe in strangers—only friends she hasn’t met yet. She’s happy to collect attention, pets, and admirers wherever she goes. Murphy is her lovable, dopey sidekick. He’s playful, goofy, and ridiculously endearing. He can be a little nervous when meeting someone new, but give him a little time and reassurance and that timid boy quickly turns into a sweet, affectionate snuggle bug. Together, they’re a wonderful pair. Both love affection, snuggles, and pets, and they’ve already proven they know how to live in a home. One particularly great perk: they can be trusted loose in the house and left home alone for extended periods. They’ve already lost their home and their people. What they haven’t lost is each other. Emma and Murphy aren’t asking for much: a comfy place to land, plenty of hands for petting, and a family willing to make room for two long bodies, four floppy ears, eight short legs, and a whole lot of love. They came into foster care together. Now we’re determined to see them leave together. ❤️ Apply to adopt Emma & Murphy and give these two best friends the happy ending they deserve. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and if over 6 months of age, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative in their foster home. We require an approved application to meet any of our dogs. We do not have a shelter location and will not arrange a meeting without an approved application. We strive to make sure the bios provided for our dogs are complete and accurate; we do understand that mistakes happen, however, so if you absolutely cannot find the answer to your question in the dog's bio, you can contact us for more information. We require a home visit for each dog we adopt out, so we adopt within a 2 hour radius of Dayton, OH. If you are outside of this radius, we encourage you to contact your local rescue or shelter.   August 16, 2026, 10:34 pm

Story
EEYORE is a sweet beagle/basset hound-type mixed breed boy. He's just about perfect -- long ears, long body, long tail. He's a short sturdy sweetheart of a boy who loves to meet new people, especially new people with treats. Eeyore is 5ish years old and 31 pounds and good with everyone, cats, dogs, all good. He came to us from an overcrowded rural shelter. We took one look at that face and said yes. Eeyore just had a dental cleaning with 11 extractions (!) but don't worry, he has plenty of teeth to gobble down his food.  If you're looking for an easy-to-love medium energy companion, Eeyore is your kind of guy. He needs a home with a physically-fenced yard and a friendly dog companion. Eeyore is housebroken and crate trained. If you'd like to meet Eeyore please fill out a dog adoption application at dreamhouserescue.org. We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter. You can meet Eeyore at our weekly adoption event, Saturday 11:30am-1:30pm at PetSmart Eastgate. Our fully-vetted adoptable dogs go to prospective homes for a one-week trial period to make sure the dog and home are the right fit before an adoption is finalized. We only adopt dogs into homes where all current pets are spayed/neutered and current on vaccines and heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We do check veterinary references to make sure adopters are compliant with standard veterinary care. Our adoptable dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested, dewormed and current on flea and tick and heartworm prevention.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 16, 2026, 11:53 am

Story
Meet the cutest gal on the block with the best smile, Lucinda! Lu is a 4.5 year old hound, boxer mix who loves her people, including kids, and is full of exuberance. She is also only a medium girl at 45 lbs— the perfect size in our eyes! She came into rescue at 6 months old & was adopted, but was returned 3 years later because the adopter was having a baby. Sweet Lucinda did nothing wrong, & she’s looking for a forever, loving family this time around!  Lucinda loves playing with energetic dog friends after slow meets & is working on manners (she can get a tad bit excited for some hehe)! She would love an active home where she can go on adventures with her people— a favorite of hers is hiking! A family that gives her lots of belly rubs? She says, “yes please!” This wiggly girl is healthy & ready to find her forever home! She is house trained, crate trained, & knows basic commands! She is so smart & is ready to continue learning in a forever home to show a family just how amazing she is!March 7, 2026, 3:29 pm
