Adoption Fee Covered + Free Training! Thanks to a generous supporter, this pet's adoption fee is fully covered — and OPH is including six virtual training sessions with a certified trainer in the first 60 days to help you start off strong together! Meet Nora – The Pocket-Sized Cuddlebug with a Gentle Spirit Currently fostered in Silver Spring, MD With her beautiful chocolate and white coat, long silky ears, and soft eyes that speak volumes, Nora is the very picture of understated elegance. But don’t let her quiet arrival fool you - this sweet, shy girl is on a journey of transformation, and with the right person by her side, she’s bound to bloom. Nora is wary of men so would flourish in an all female household. Personality & Energy - Timid but loving – Nora is quite shy at first, as well as cautious around new situations and strangers. Once she warms up - she bonds very quickly, shows how big her heart is, and follows you everywhere! - Calm demeanor – She prefers short gentle activity or lounging close to her person. - Affectionate and clingy – She bonds deeply and wants nothing more than to be by your side (or on your lap if you let her!). Home Life & Compatibility - House-trained – Nora is doing great with regularly scheduled potty breaks and has a natural preference to potty outside. She will need continued training, she is very treat-motivated and responds well to positive reinforcement. She is eager to please her people! - Crate-trained... sort of – Nora tolerates the crate but would prefer not to be left alone. She settles much better when she’s near her people. At first, she welcomes the crate as her safe place, but as she becomes more acclimated to her new home, the less she wants to be crated. - Lap guardian – She may growl softly if another dog tries to interrupt her snuggle time. She’s not aggressive, just gently possessive. - Dogs – Nora enjoys the company of other dogs of all sizes with a similar demeanor. She occasionally runs zoomies but spends most of her time lounging by her humans. - Cats and kids – Unknown, but Nora would likely do best in an easygoing, quieter home with adults. Training & Growth - Learning Off, Stay, No, and responding well. Nora gently jumps on her people for attention. - Wants to please and will thrive with calm guidance and positive reinforcement. Very treat-motivated! - Still discovering toys and play - her inner puppy came out a few weeks into her foster home. Ideal Home Nora dreams of a peaceful life where she can tag along with her person, lounge in sunspots, and be the loyal little shadow she was born to be. Transitions can be a scary time, and she will need a patient family with a calm household who will give her time to feel safe and come out of her shell. She would not do well in an apartment or urban setting, and she would benefit from a home with a secure fence. She would also benefit from someone who is home more often than not, as she prefers not to be alone, but mostly she just wants someone patient and gentle who will let her unfold at her own pace. Nora is the kind of dog who shows devotion in the purest way — by never leaving your side. Whether walking from room to room or settling down to rest, she follows faithfully, a constant shadow of love and loyalty. Nora is looking for her forever family! Is that with you? Click "apply for adoption" to get your family started! Included Veterinary Care: - Up to date on vaccinations for her age - Spayed - Microchipped - Heartworm preventative - Flea and tick preventative - Worm/parasite treatments

Story
Current Location: York, PA Hello! My name is Baxton! Baxton is a sweet, gentle Beagle boy who is just starting to settle into foster life. He’s been incredibly quiet and well-behaved so far, even sleeping peacefully through the night in his crate. Baxton is still recovering from being neutered, so he’s having a little trouble getting fully comfortable—but he’s taking it all in stride. Despite that, he’s already showing great habits! He easily goes up and down steps and is doing a wonderful job taking care of his business outside. As he continues to heal and adjust, we’re excited to learn more about his personality. Stay tuned for updates as Baxton comes out of his shell! This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito producing a positive test in six months. OPH will treat the dog and provide two weeks of recovery time prior to adoption. Potential adopters will receive detailed information on the disease and their role in completing the recovery process from OPH’s heartworm coordinator. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable. Story
Meet Cyrus Cyrus is a 3 yr old tricolor Beagle with a gentle soul, a curious nose, and the kind of calm and easygoing nature that makes him an absolute pleasure to be around from day one. He is friendly, sweet, and quietly wonderful in a way that sneaks up on you and settles right into your heart before you even realize it has happened. He came from a hoarding situation that did not give him the start he deserved, but you would never know it from the dog he is today. Cyrus is making progress every single day and approaching his new life with a curiosity and openness that speaks volumes about who he is at his core. He is not defined by where he came from. He is defined by how gently and willingly he is moving forward. Cyrus loves toys, loves food, and is motivated by both in a way that makes training a genuine joy. He walks nicely on leash, is crate trained, and actually enjoys going into his crate, settling in calmly with only a few minutes of conversation at night before he quiets down and goes to sleep. He does well when left alone and has a steady and contented temperament that makes him easy to live with and easy to love. He is still working on his house training, occasionally marking indoors, and will need some patient oversight and consistency to help him get the rest of the way there. He is making great progress and with the right guidance he will get it sorted completely. Cyrus is wonderful with other dogs, warm and friendly with new people, and has the kind of gentle calm demeanor that would make him a lovely companion for children. His experience with cats is unknown so a careful introduction would be wise. A fenced yard would be a wonderful bonus for a Beagle who loves to sniff and explore the world at his own curious pace. Cyrus is sweet, he is easy, and he is ready. Any home that welcomes him in is going to wonder very quickly how they ever got along without him.

Story
Current Location: King William, VA Meet Rumi Get ready, because Rumi is here and she is full of life. This spunky little 7-pound, 2-month-old ginger girl is the kind of puppy who makes everything feel like the most exciting event of the day, and honestly, she's not wrong. Playful, curious, and absolutely full of personality, Rumi loves toys, loves people, and really loves other dogs. She's happy to entertain herself for a bit, but what she truly wants is to be in the middle of the action with you. Whether it's a play session, a cuddle, or just hanging out together, she is all in. She even gets thrilled when her water bowl is being filled. The simple joys of puppyhood! Rumi is doing well with sleep, making it through the night without a peep. Fair warning though - the moment she hears you stirring in the morning, her day has officially begun and she is ready. Coffee first, then puppy. You've been advised. She's still working on house training, as you'd expect from a two-month-old, so patience and consistency will go a long way. She's also a little escape artist in the making - she's already conquered a 2.5 ft puppy pen, though a 4 ft barrier has kept her contained so far. For now. With her gorgeous ginger coat and her boundless enthusiasm for absolutely everything, Rumi is a pure joy. She's going to grow into one amazing dog. Rumi would thrive in an active home that's ready for the wonderful chaos of puppyhood and someone with the time, energy, and patience to help this bright, lively little girl become the best version of herself.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Popper is an adorable Beagle with a nose that never quits and a heart full of joy. Like a true beagle, he loves snoofing around the field, following exciting scents wherever they lead, and zooming around with happy, floppy-eared enthusiasm. Running and playing are some of his favorite pastimes, especially when he has toys to toss or another dog to chase around. His foster family says he’s the bestest boy, and it’s easy to see why — Popper is ready to bring love, fun, and endless tail wags to his forever home. REQUIREMENTS: Fenced Yard, Another fur buddy Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not. A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop! Story
Current Location: Annapolis, MD Meet Ruth Ruth is a three year old black and tan and white mixed breed with the most soulful and connective eyes you have ever seen. She will look at you and you will feel it, a quiet and genuine warmth that tells you exactly who she is before she has even had a chance to show you. She is laid back, unhurried, and deeply content with the cool calm and quiet of everyday life. She is not looking for chaos or excitement. She is looking for a soft place, a good walk, and a person who appreciates a dog who brings stillness and sweetness into a home in equal measure. Ruth takes a little time to warm up when she first meets someone new, but once she decides you are her people she is all in. Clingy in the best possible way, generous with kisses, and happiest when she is close to the ones she loves. She has a way of settling in beside you that feels less like a dog finding a spot and more like the room finding its balance. Outside she transforms into a curious and enthusiastic explorer, nose to the ground, taking in every smell and sight with the focus and delight of someone who finds the whole world genuinely fascinating. She loves walks and outdoor time and would happily spend an afternoon sniffing her way through a quiet neighborhood or a peaceful trail. Then she comes home, finds her spot, and naps like it is her calling. She is mostly crate and leash trained, fully house trained, knows sit, and is food motivated which makes her a joy to work with. She whines a little in her crate before settling but finds her calm quickly. She is the kind of dog who just needs a little patience and a little time and gives back so much more than she asks for. Ruth would thrive in a quieter home with someone semi active who enjoys daily walks and values a deeply affectionate, easygoing companion who makes every ordinary day feel a little warmer just by being in it.
