Story
Meet Sadie! We welcome two very special girls back to the Suncoast Basset Rescue family. Sadie, a lovely bagel, and Leia, a beautiful basset hound, are both SBR alums who found their forever home several years ago. They are each approximately 9 years old. Sadly, their family's health challenges made it impossible for them to continue caring for the girls, so they reached back out to SBR. Of course, we were happy to step in and welcome Sadie and Leia back with open arms. These two full-figured ladies have a little catching up to do. They'll be getting some much-needed spa time, medical care, and a healthier eating plan to help them get back to their best selves. Fortunately, they've landed with a wonderful foster family who is ready to give them all the care, patience, and love they need. So far, Sadie and Leia are proving to be wonderfully mild-mannered girls who seem happy to go with the flow. They've lived together for several years, so we'd like to keep these two friends together if we can. We'll know more about what the future holds as they settle into foster care and we get to know them better.

Story
Her name is Charisma. One of the sweetest dogs you’ll ever meet, but very hyper/anxious. She likes to cuddle in bed at night and hog a lot of the space. She needs a big yard for her to run around mindlessly and exert her energy. She is crate trained and potty trained but will have accidents on occasion in new areas/if not tended to quickly enough. She’s not much of a chewer, rarely chews on furniture or shoes or etc, but has happened before out of boredom. She’s a lot to deal with but she also gives intense amounts of love and affection.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ADOPTION PENDINGHushpuppy is a people magnet! He is so cute everyone who meets him just has to love on him ...and he's fine with that! He loves meeting new people. His foster mom says he likes to be near her and will lie beside her on the couch and bury his nose between her and the cushions. When he first arrived in his foster home, Hushpuppy was a little timid. At first, he was hesitant to explore much outside. We are aware that he came to the shelter from an owner who kept him and his brothers in pretty horrible conditions in an outdoor penned area. Also, he may not have had much experience with toys, but he is just starting to enjoy them. Hushpuppy has been friendly with the other dogs he’s met and also does fine with the cat, but he does want to go after rabbits! He’s not hugely food motivated, unless its the cat food. Housetraining is going very well with only a couple of accidents in the house. Hushpuppy does not really like the crate, but when his foster mom goes to work and leaves him at home alone with her other dog, they both have free roam, and Hushpuppy has not gotten into any mischief. At night he LOVES sleeping in the bed with foster mom and the other dog. He is not leash walked much in his foster home but he seems to do fine a few times he has gone to the vet. We think he would do best in a home that has a calm environment and where he can get lots of affection. He is a joy to have around! Hushpuppy is heartworm positive, his treatment has been scheduled, and as long as post treatment requirements can be met, he should be ready for a sleepover the weekend of August 21st.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 5, 2026, 9:49 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ADOPTION PENDINGBuster is an amazing senior beagle who acts much younger than his age. He is housebroken, shows no food aggression, and has not needed to be crated when left at home alone. He is also very quiet and has only been heard barking a couple of times. He would be fine with someone working outside the home full time. Buster could live with or without other dogs. While he doesn't actively play with other hounds in his foster home, he happily joins them at the fence line to greet neighbors. When Buster was fostered in Alabama we learned that he did well with cats and children -- he was with a 9-year-old and a 2-year-old who were good to respect his space. He loves walking and does not require a fenced yard as long as he gets several daily walks. He enjoys rolling in the grass, getting belly rubs, and playing a game of throwing his beef sticks in the air. He sleeps wherever he likes and loves to snuggle in. Buster is heartworm positive and should be ready for a sleepover the first week of August.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 5, 2026, 9:49 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Matty's personality is all beagle! He's a friendly boy who was dropped off at a Louisiana shelter as a stray and he is so happy to be in his foster home! Matty wants to hang out with his humans and be a part of whatever is going on. He loves to cuddle and will do anything for food, including stealing it when you aren’t looking. Housetraining is improving. He does well in a crate. Once his foster parents started feeding him in his crate and giving him treats there, he was eager to jump right in. He is mostly quiet, even in the crate. He doesn’t bark unless he's helping the other dogs defend the yard, but even then he is not the instigator. And Matty is good with other dogs, even if they bark and growl at him. He isn’t intimidated, he just keeps going. He loves stuffed toys but occasionally he will get hold of something that isn’t a toy. He is still learning that part of being in a house. If you want a true beagle, he is exactly what you're looking for. Matty was treated for heartworm in March. He is healthy and asymptomatic so we expect him to do well.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 5, 2026, 9:49 pm

Story
Meet Tiana & Daisy! These lovely 4-year-old girls may not be sisters, but they are a bonded pair who are very happy to be starting their next chapter as a team!Tiana and Daisy came to Suncoast Basset Rescue from a family whose day-to-day life had simply become too busy to give these girls the time and attention they needed. Now, they’re catching up on some much-needed rest, relaxation, and quiet time—and getting a fresh start together. Both girls are extremely sweet and adaptable, and they’re settling into foster care beautifully. They do have quite a bit of catching up to do on the medical front, including gaining some much-needed weight. In fact, each girl needs to approximately double her current weight, so we’re taking things slowly and making sure they get the nutrition and care they need to become happy and healthy. For now, life is pretty wonderful: comfy places to nap, plenty of good food, lots of attention and affection, and a foster family who is making sure these two know just how loved they are.

Story
Meet Oscar! He is an incredibly resilient 9-year-old whose determination shines through every single day. When Oscar came to SBR, he had lost the use of his back legs. His family loved him very much but made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him because they could no longer afford the specialized medical care he needed. Just two days after arriving at SBR, Oscar underwent spinal surgery. While the neurologist repaired what could be addressed, much of what was discovered were chronic, long-standing changes to his spine. His journey isn't over, but it is filled with hope. Oscar has begun physical therapy and is working hard to learn to walk again. His neurological team is optimistic that he will regain the ability to walk, although his gait will likely never be completely normal. If you've ever met a determined basset, you'll understand Oscar perfectly—he's stubborn in all the best ways and refuses to let anything slow him down! Despite everything he's been through, Oscar remains one of the sweetest boys you'll ever meet. He gets along well with his foster sisters (as long as they don't come racing past him!), absolutely loves squeaky toys, and still tries his best to "chase" the lizards that visit the patio. His joyful spirit and zest for life are truly inspiring. Oscar still has more medical care ahead of him, including a much-needed dental procedure and neuter surgery. For now, however, his focus—and ours—is helping him regain his mobility and continue making progress one step at a time. Oscar's story is one of resilience, perseverance, and hope. We can't wait to watch him continue proving that, with love, determination, and the right care, amazing things are possible.

Story
Meet Murphy! Murphy is a handsome 4-year-old tri-color basset who's ready to get started on his next great adventure! This friendly guy is the kind of basset who seems to get along with just about everyone. He's good with dogs, cats, and kids, making him a pretty versatile fellow. He enjoys having canine companions around, but he's also perfectly happy to be the one-and-only dog. Right now, Murphy has a little catching up to do on the medical front, so he'll be spending some time getting his health care up to speed. In the meantime, he's getting exactly what every basset deserves: plenty of attention, affection, comfy places to nap, and lots of love from his foster family.
