Story
Meet Nugget, a 7-year-old with soulful eyes and a heart that’s been through a lot of change recently. Nugget came to SBR after the only mom he has known entered hospice care and was no longer able to return home to care for him. In the midst of losing both his mom and his canine companion, Nugget has understandably been scared, confused, and searching for stability. Nugget has spent his life as an indoor dog with access to a fenced yard, which he absolutely loves. He enjoys exploring outside and has been known to slip through weak spots in fencing to go on little adventures, so he will need a securely fenced yard to keep him safe. He previously lived with another dog and seems to miss having a canine friend around, often expressing himself with a classic basset howl. He has also lived alongside cats and mostly enjoys chasing them around for fun. We believe Nugget is around 55–60 pounds and likely has “a little something extra” mixed in with all that basset charm. While we are still getting to know him, one thing is clear: Nugget is looking for a patient, loving home where he can feel safe and secure again after so much upheaval in his life. Because he has never lived with children and is unfamiliar with them, an adult-only home would likely be the best fit for him. After everything he’s been through, Nugget deserves a soft place to land and a family to love him through his next chapter.

Story
Milo is a wonderful Beagle! He is sweet and loving. Our family purchased him from Chews a Puppy in Winter Garden, FL. Our living situation has turned out to be ill suited for taking care of a puppy - we have two kids (a 7 month old and a 5 year old), I work all day and at night, and my wife stays home with the kids. We've tried adjusting schedules to get Milo the attention he needs. We made the difficult decision to find him a new home. Milo needs open spaces in which to run around and play! He also could benefit from a family with older kids that can keep up with him. Milo has all his shots, and we have all his medical and sales records. He is in great shape. Milo is also descended from several Champion show dogs!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Bruce will let you sleep late!  He lets his foster mom stay in bed until 9 am on the weekends. When he finally wakes up, he wants ear scratches and belly rubs.  Overall his avtivity level is pretty moderate, but every now and then he has bursts of energy and gets the zoomies.  We believe Bruce really needs another dog as companion as they help his confidence a lot. He is fluent with a doggie door and will spend a good bit of his day sniffing around in the backyard -- especially if he has doggy company. Bruce came to us skinny and fearful and he can still be timid and sensitive to loud noises, fast movements, and new people. Patience and gentleness are the key to his trust -- especially with men as he seems to prefer women. Once he feels safe and comfortable, he'll follow you around the house and even snuggle with you. He has also suffered through some GI issues most like due to intestinal parasites (which we have finally cleared) and poor nutrition. He will need continued dietary support with a good quality diet and supplementation. His foster mom has been crating him when she's away and she lets him sleep on the foot of the bed.  He's comfortable in the crate for several hours at a time. Bruce tested positive for heartworms, but has already been treated. He is housebroken and is anxiously awaiting a sleepover.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 21, 2026, 11:15 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Slick gives true meaning to the words 'cuddle bug'. He LOVES people and when he is being snuggled in your lap he shows his appreciation with cute little grunting noises. He also likes to give kisses.  When he greets new people he immediately rolls over for belly rubs. With children he is especially gentle and well mannered. In his foster home he appears to be completely housetrained. He’s been crated at times during the day for up to 3 hours and currently sleeps in his crate at night... but given his love of cuddling, he would probably prefer to be bedding down next to his people. Slick is very mellow in the house and enjoys window watching from a perch on the back of the sofa. Outside he likes exploring as much as any beagle - he is curious about prey but not driven and walks well on a leash.  If Slick can find a forever family who will shower him with love and affection, he will be more than willing to reciprocate! He is heartworm positive but his treatment is scheduled soon and he could be ready for  a sleepover in a couple of weeks.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 21, 2026, 11:15 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Matty's personality is all beagle! He's a friendly boy who was dropped off at a Louisiana shelter as a stray and he is so happy to be in his foster home! Matty wants to hang out with his humans and be a part of whatever is going on. He loves to cuddle and will do anything for food, including stealing it when you aren’t looking. Housetraining is still a work in progress, but improving. He does well in a crate. Once his foster parents started feeding him in his crate and giving him treats there, he was eager to jump right in. He is mostly quiet, even in the crate. He doesn’t bark unless he's helping the other dogs defend the yard, but even then he is not the instigator. And Matty is good with other dogs, even if they bark and growl at him. He isn’t intimidated, he just keeps going. He loves stuffed toys but occasionally he will get hold of something that isn’t a toy. He is still learning that part of being in a house. If you want a true beagle, he is exactly what you're looking for. Matty is heartworm positive but scheduled for treatment in Louisiana mid-March. He is healthy and asymptomatic so we expect him to do well. His transport to Florida can be arranged when we have an available foster home or prospective adopter.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 21, 2026, 11:15 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Rosa Lee is gentle and easy to live with but sometimes a little sassy. By that we mean she can sometimes show a spirited attitude. Her energy level overall is pretty moderate. She is dog and cat friendly, has no problem meeting new people and has done very well with the children she has occasionally met. Housetraining wasn't perfect at first but now she’s got the hang of it. Rosa Lee very much enjoys being allowed on the couch and has no problem being left alone. Although she is curious and confident to explore the yard, she mostly likes being inside. She is not often crated in her foster home -- more often when the family is gone she is limited to the kitchen with baby gates. She is very food motivated, sometimes plays with toys but shows no resource guarding behavior. Rosa Lee does not push for affection, but she does like it. She is heartworm positive and her treatment is scheduled later in June, so with some restrictions, she will be ready for sleepover at the end of June.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 21, 2026, 11:15 am

Story
Meet Roscoe! This gorgeous boy is estimated to be around 3–5 years old, and he not only has the looks, he has the sweetest personality too. Roscoe was found as a stray and ended up in a county shelter before Suncoast Basset Rescue got the call to help. While we are not exactly sure of his age, Roscoe definitely seems to be on the younger side. His teeth are in great shape, and he appears to be healthy and well cared for overall. Even better, he is a very good boy — well behaved, rides nicely in the car, and gets along well with kids and other dogs. At this time, we are not sure how he does with cats. Roscoe is handsome, sweet, and already showing everyone what a wonderful companion he is.

Story
Meet Norris! At just 4 months old, Norris is already showing what a smart and social pup he is. He would thrive in a forever home with an active, playful dog, as he absolutely loves having friends and playing with them. Norris enjoys being part of the action and is happiest when he has a buddy to romp around with. A securely fenced yard is required so he can safely run, explore, and burn off his puppy energy. This bright young boy already knows “sit,” will sit and wait politely for his food bowl, uses a doggie door, and has mastered using a ramp to get in and out of his foster mom’s bed — also known as the big dog bed. He sleeps snuggled up all night without accidents, and on the rare occasion he needs a midnight potty break, he will wake his foster mom to let her know.Norris is doing great with handling, is good for nail trims, and hasn’t shown any fear of thunderstorms. He is currently working on polishing his potty training and learning to take treats gently. He has also shown that he doesn’t need to be crated when his foster mom goes out, even for longer periods of time.Like many curious puppies, Norris is discovering the world around him — including the kitchen garbage can and the exciting possibility of counter surfing. His new family should be ready to stay one step ahead of this clever, growing pup. Norris is a sweet, affectionate, and playful youngster who is ready to bring fun, snuggles, and a little bit of puppy mischief to his forever home.

Story
Meet Madeleine (Maddy), a gentle and loving 12.5 year-old basset girl whose world recently changed in a big way. After spending her entire life with the only family she had ever known, Maddy was surrendered to SBR due to illness in the family. This sweet senior is understandably a little confused and heartbroken as she tries to adjust to all the changes around her. Even so, Maddy has been handling everything with quiet grace and kindness. Her foster family is giving her lots of love and reassurance while helping her understand that she is safe, secure, and cared for. Maddy may need a little time to fully settle in, but underneath it all is a loyal, affectionate girl who simply wants comfort, patience, and a soft place to land. We know that with love and stability, this precious senior will shine again.
