Story
Shiloh is fun, loving and friendly. He lived his whole little life outdoors. I rescued him from a homeless woman. He adapted quite nicely to indoor life, but still needs help with potty training. He will go out but has accidents. Loves to run and play. Chases my cats. He thinks it is fun, they do not. Plays well with my other dogs, but just recently my larger dog has been attacking Shiloh. You can tell he does not understand why and it makes me sad. Unfortunately, it is getting worse. Shiloh takes his time while eating and some times flips his dish. Not sure what that is all about. He has been a digger, but that has toned down. Also, at first he would dart out the front door. Always came home but I worried. That also has subsided. He is laid back and loves napping. He needs the love and attention he deserves and not be in fear of being attacked. I wish him nothing but the best loving home there is. He will return that love right back.

Meet Hansel! Hansel is a 8 year old Beagle mix. Hansel is sweet and loves people. Hansel needs a home with a fence and plenty of room to run and smell with that beagle nose! Hansel is working on house training and some basic manners.   WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT HANSEL COMES WITH FREE TRAINING WITH ROSIE DANE DOG TRAINING! Thanks to the Pedigree Foundation, we are able to work with the trainers at Rosie Dane Dog Training to pay for a 10 week Novice Training course once adopted. More details available upon request! If you would like to make Hansel a part of your family, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org.  HANSEL'S ADOPTION FEE IS $170The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. SPECIAL NEEDSMeet Stewart! UPDATE: June 2, 2021- In December of 2020, Stewart suffered a ruptured disc and has spinal surgery. It left him unable to walk, but now that he is healed, he is doing therapy and regaining strength and starting to walk. Right now, Stewart is special needs and has wheels to help him. He will need a special home that can handle special needs and continue therapy so he can fully walk again.  Stewart is an 8 year old Beagle. Stewart came to us emaciated, but he is now healthy and ready to be adopted! Stewart needs a home that will be patient and work with him on house training and socializing. Stewart is good with dogs his size and prefers female companions over males. He also needs a fenced yard where he cannot escape, and his “beagle nose” get him into trouble. He would not do well in a subdivision, apartment, or townhome. He is very vocal so a place with a little more land would be more suitable. Remi was an owner surrender. She is a very sweet girl who gets along with kids and other dogs, but has a habit of escaping a fenced in yard. Her previous owner said she did do fine with cats. She looks like she most definitely has some beagle in her, but she is not the typical beagle size and she is what we consider a large dog.
