Orange Crush (named after a Jelly Bean flavor) is a fun puppy learning puppy basic training (sit, down, stay, leash walk, potty training) in the Paws Behind Bars - Luther Luckett Correctional Complex Dog Training Program! He has a smoother coat, beautiful marble eyes, a lovely temperament and the bravery to try new things like horseback ride on our super friendly guy, Kipper! He is around seven months of age, has that reddish Terrier nose and earset. We believe his size will be similar to his mother's, around 35 pounds when grown. He has a DNA test and was a Heinz 57 breed mix of many breeds; among some of those listed, Pug, Beagle, Boxer, American Pit Bull Terrier, German Shepherd, Australian Shepherd, Rat Terrier and American Eskimo. Kenai hasn't had the fairest hand in life. He was dumped at a literal dump, like he was trash. Then, as if that wasn't enough, Kenai contracted ringworm. Ringworm requires puppies and dogs to spend a longer-than-average quarantine period in the shelter to prevent it from spreading. Unfortunately, that kind of isolation can be especially hard on some dogs. While Kenai's siblings have been able to enjoy the company of other dogs, Kenai can be a little more selective. We consider his behavior dog selective because, at his core, Kenai is afraid of other dogs. If there is another dog in the home, we would recommend a mature, confident companion who won't be too pushy with him. Of course, a meet-and-greet will happen first with any potential dog siblings to make sure everyone is comfortable. Kenai was also very afraid when meeting children. The curious, touchy, quick and quirky nature of little humans is simply not his cup of tea. Older children who understand boundaries and have a calmer demeanor would be a much better fit for this sensitive boy. Kenai needs a home where his people will understand his fear and uncertainty rather than expect him to overcome everything overnight. He needs patience. He needs consistency. Most of all, he needs someone willing to show him that not every human is going to let him down. The world hasn't been very kind to Kenai. Sir Tan is “cer-tain” that he would like to be somebody’s fur baby! 🐾 Thirty pounds of 3-year-old Beagle and Pit Bull Terrier comes with a guarantee of equal parts fun, playtime, and cozy snuggles. ❤️ Most of the dogs who come through HSOC’s doors arrive as owner surrenders or as strays who were not claimed after their stray hold at animal control. Sir Tan’s story, however, was a little different. This mighty little guy was hit by a car. After the accident, he was frightened and ran away, but thankfully, he was found and taken to Goshen Animal Clinic, where Dr. Roth cared for him. Sir Tan has been incredibly courageous, strong, and resilient throughout his healing process. His road rash is still visible, but thankfully, it isn't causing him nearly as much discomfort as it did initially. ❤️‍🩹 As we've gotten to know Sir Tan, we've also discovered that he can be selective about his dog friends. Some dogs earn an immediate invitation to snuggle and play, while others make him a little nervous. If you're interested in adopting Sir Tan and have dogs at home, we'll need to schedule a meet and greet in our controlled play yard to make sure everyone is comfortable. Have kitties at home? No problem! We'll test Sir Tan with our resident HSOC cats to help determine if he's officially cat-certified. 🐱 This little survivor is ready to trade his road to recovery for a road to his forever home.
