Story
SPECIAL NEEDSMeet Stewart! UPDATE: June 2, 2021- In December of 2020, Stewart suffered a ruptured disc and has spinal surgery. It left him unable to walk, but now that he is healed, he is doing therapy and regaining strength and starting to walk. Right now, Stewart is special needs and has wheels to help him. He will need a special home that can handle special needs and continue therapy so he can fully walk again.  Stewart is an 11 year old Beagle. Stewart came to us emaciated, but he is now healthy and ready to be adopted! Stewart needs a home that will be patient and work with him on house training and socializing. Stewart is good with dogs his size and prefers female companions over males. He also needs a fenced yard where he cannot escape, and his “beagle nose” get him into trouble. He would not do well in a subdivision, apartment, or townhome. He is very vocal so a place with a little more land would be more suitable. If you would like to make Stewart a part of the family, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org  STEWART'S ADOPTION FEE IS $170The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in.  Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!    June 3, 2026, 9:03 pm

Story
So no one told you life was gonna be this way… starting out your puppyhood in a shelter!? 🎶 The “Friends” puppies (Chandler, Joey, Rachel, and Ross) are full of sunshine, curiosity, and joy. While they’re making the best of shelter life, we’d much rather see these babies sharing their puppy antics with loving families of their own. We’ve labeled the Friends pups as Beagle/Labrador Retriever mixes thanks to their Lab-like coats and builds, though their long little snouts and floppy ears definitely hint at some hound in the mix, too. At just 4-months-old, they’re at such a fun and important stage of life. Each puppy will come altered, up-to-date on vaccinations, on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, and with a puppy starter kit to help them settle into their new homes. Trainer Jim Kats of Micky's House provides free puppy training with all adoptions. Chandler is the (almost) solid black male of the group. He currently weighs around 17 pounds and is expected to grow into a wonderful medium-sized companion. Chandler is playful, curious, and always ready to explore the world around him. He has the sweetest bright brown eyes and the cutest oversized ears that help distinguish him from his nearly identical sister. Chandler LOVES to snuggle! These pups are at the perfect age for training, socialization, and learning household routines. With proper introductions and guidance, they should do wonderfully in homes with other dogs, cats, and children alike. They’re ready to soak up love, structure, and all the adventures puppyhood has to offer. Submit an application to be contacted about scheduling a meet-and-greet with Chandler and the rest of the Friends crew! 🐾

Looks like these puppies are stuck in second gear… until they find forever homes! 🐾 Chandler, Joey, Rachel, and Ross are good-spirited, friendly, adorable puppies. While they’re making the best of shelter life, we’d much rather see these babies spending the best months of puppyhood with loving families of their own. We’ve labeled the Friends pups as Beagle/Labrador Retriever mixes thanks to their Lab-like coats and builds, though those long little snouts and floppy ears definitely hint at some hound in the mix, too. At just 4-months-old, they’re at such a fun and important stage of life. Each puppy will come altered, up-to-date on vaccinations, on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, and with a puppy starter kit to help them settle into their new homes. Trainer Jim Kats of Micky’s House also offers free puppy training with each adoption. Ross is one handsome little fella. He’s the biggest (and also the calmest) of the litter, currently weighing 19.14 pounds. Ross has precious black-and-white markings, long legs that make him stand tall, and ears that stick out much farther than his tiny head. His bold dark brown eyes have the softest little twinkle to them. These pups are at the perfect age for training, socialization, and learning household routines. With proper introductions and guidance, they should do wonderfully in homes with other dogs, cats, and children alike. They’re ready to soak up love, structure, and all the adventures puppyhood has to offer. Submit an application to schedule a meet-and-greet with Ross and the rest of the Friends crew! 🖤
