Daniel is a sweet, wonderful, playful young boy. He was rescued from a shelter in Tennessee and unfortunately has spent half his young life in a shelter. But that has not dimmed his spirit. He is full of life and love and joy. While he is quite active, he also settles down nicely. A fenced back yard is a must. He is very approval motivated and intelligent, so will train quickly. He is friendly and loving to people, kids, and other dogs (cats are an unkown). He is very house trained and does not mess his kennel. He is very well mannered, but is still has a lot of puppy brain going on. With some good structure and love, he will grow into an amazing, loyal, and loving companion. Bring some joy to your world and give Daniel a forever home for the holidays. He will be the light of your life!

Arapahoe is bright-eyed, a little shy but friendly, puppy! She is currently about 15 weeks of age and was born under a porch in rural Kentucky. She is a beautiful people, dog and cat-friendly girl and will make a great addition to most family makeups! We rescued the entire family, mom and 7 puppies! Mom has an AMAZING temperament and puppies have the potential to follow suit! Arapahoe is tri-colored, but predominately reddish/brown and black, and should grow to a medium size dog. She currently weighs in at 13 pounds. Her mother weighs in at under 40 pounds. Arapahoe is a bright and exuberant girl with all the potential to be a super adult dog! She would like a family with patience and commitment to raising a puppy! Proper socialization and obedience training will take her far to help her grow up and be a nicely mannered adult pup! MAPLE is a 2 year old female beagle/lab mix that weighs 40 lbs. She was picked up by a stray at a local shelter and quickly became everyone's favorite. MAPLE loves everyone and was great with every dog she met. She is a nice size, has an easy to maintain short coat and a lovely smily! Sh is just a great dog! She is pretty good on a leash and is keeping a nice, clean kennel so we're sure she had a family somewhere, at sometime. TIPPY TOES is a 7 month old, female beagle mix. She came to us from a family in rural KY with too many dogs. This poor little thing spent much of the day tied to a tree. She is now with us and couldnt be happier! Currently she weighs 19 lbs and wont mature to over 30. We dont know what the mix is? but we're pretty sure beagle is in there. She's happy, loves the world and is ready to go like most beagles! TIPPY TOES will need a family that can tolerate her puppy energy. A good fenced yard is a must here as leash walking is not enough exercise. We feel children over 5 will be fine. Another active dog to play with would be even better. Cats? She'd probably want to play so it depends on the cat. And, as always, obedience classes would be of great benefit once she's had a chance to settle and get some of the pent up energy of being tied up all the time out of her system. SPECIAL NEEDSMeet Stewart! UPDATE: June 2, 2021- In December of 2020, Stewart suffered a ruptured disc and has spinal surgery. It left him unable to walk, but now that he is healed, he is doing therapy and regaining strength and starting to walk. Right now, Stewart is special needs and has wheels to help him. He will need a special home that can handle special needs and continue therapy so he can fully walk again.  Stewart is an 8 year old Beagle. Stewart came to us emaciated, but he is now healthy and ready to be adopted! Stewart needs a home that will be patient and work with him on house training and socializing. Stewart is good with dogs his size and prefers female companions over males. He also needs a fenced yard where he cannot escape, and his “beagle nose” get him into trouble. He would not do well in a subdivision, apartment, or townhome. He is very vocal so a place with a little more land would be more suitable. If you would like to make Stewart a part of the family, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org  STEWART'S ADOPTION FEE IS $170The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption.
