Story
Iris was adopted from the KY humane society in 2016. She is active and love to be outside but also enjoys cuddling on the couch. She is good with young children but can get too excited sometimes. She is an amazing dog that would love to find a home that has more time to spend playing with her and enjoying the little things in life. Our family is about to add a new baby in the mix and we unfortunately do not have the time or attention to give her the amount that she deserves.

Story
SPECIAL NEEDSMeet Stewart! UPDATE: June 2, 2021- In December of 2020, Stewart suffered a ruptured disc and has spinal surgery. It left him unable to walk, but now that he is healed, he is doing therapy and regaining strength and starting to walk. Right now, Stewart is special needs and has wheels to help him. He will need a special home that can handle special needs and continue therapy so he can fully walk again.  Stewart is an 11 year old Beagle. Stewart came to us emaciated, but he is now healthy and ready to be adopted! Stewart needs a home that will be patient and work with him on house training and socializing. Stewart is good with dogs his size and prefers female companions over males. He also needs a fenced yard where he cannot escape, and his “beagle nose” get him into trouble. He would not do well in a subdivision, apartment, or townhome. He is very vocal so a place with a little more land would be more suitable. If you would like to make Stewart a part of the family, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org  STEWART'S ADOPTION FEE IS $170The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in.  Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!    July 16, 2026, 6:22 pm

🐾 Meet Bentley! 🐾 If you’ve got a soft spot for floppy ears, Bentley is about to steal your heart! ❤️ Just look at those ears—they’re impossible to resist! Bentley is a 10-week-old Beagle/Basset mix who came to us looking for a fresh start. Like any puppy his age, he’s full of curiosity, loves to play, and is always ready to explore the world around him. Whether he’s chasing a toy, following his nose, or curling up for a nap, Bentley is sure to keep you smiling. Bentley is looking for a family that’s ready for all things puppy! He’ll need continued work with potty training, crate training, basic manners, and socialization as he grows into the best boy he can be. With patience, consistency, and lots of love, he’ll make an amazing lifelong companion. If you’re ready to add a little extra joy (and a whole lot of adorable ears!) to your life, Bentley can’t wait to meet you! 🐶💙

Story
🐾 Meet Lottie: the puppy of your dreams! We promise! 🐾 This adorable Beagle/Jack Russell Terrier mix is an absolute doll. Lottie is smart, playful, and loves everyone and everything she meets. She’s the kind of puppy who makes friends wherever she goes. 💕 And guess what? Lottie is CRATE TRAINED! 🎉 She knows that when she comes out of her crate, it’s time for a potty break. She’s so close to being fully house trained. She’ll even go to the door to let you know she needs to go outside! At around 3 months old and 14 pounds, Lottie is headed toward the perfect in-between size. Not too big, not too small… she’ll be wonderfully shmedium. 🐶✨ Lottie has been incredibly lucky to spend her puppyhood in a foster home instead of growing up in the shelter, but she’d be even luckier to find a family of her own. She can happily join a home with cats, dogs, and/or children, and she’s ready to bring endless puppy love, laughs, and tail wags to her forever family. Ready to meet your new best friend? Submit an application for sweet baby girl Lottie. We’d love to introduce you! 💗 Please note that Lottie cannot go home until the end of July when her spay surgery and rabies vaccination are complete!
