SPECIAL NEEDSMeet Stewart! UPDATE: June 2, 2021- In December of 2020, Stewart suffered a ruptured disc and has spinal surgery. It left him unable to walk, but now that he is healed, he is doing therapy and regaining strength and starting to walk. Right now, Stewart is special needs and has wheels to help him. He will need a special home that can handle special needs and continue therapy so he can fully walk again.  Stewart is an 11 year old Beagle. Stewart came to us emaciated, but he is now healthy and ready to be adopted! Stewart needs a home that will be patient and work with him on house training and socializing. Stewart is good with dogs his size and prefers female companions over males. He also needs a fenced yard where he cannot escape, and his “beagle nose” get him into trouble. He would not do well in a subdivision, apartment, or townhome. He is very vocal so a place with a little more land would be more suitable. If you would like to make Stewart a part of the family, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org  STEWART'S ADOPTION FEE IS $170The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Meet Hansel! Hansel is a 11 year old Beagle mix. Hansel is sweet and loves people. Hansel needs a home with a fence and plenty of room to run and smell with that beagle nose! Hansel is working on house training and some basic manners.   WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT HANSEL COMES WITH FREE TRAINING WITH ROSIE DANE DOG TRAINING! Thanks to the Pedigree Foundation, we are able to work with the trainers at Rosie Dane Dog Training to pay for a 10 week Novice Training course once adopted. More details available upon request! Pringle is a 3yr old loveable goofball that wants to be part of whatever you are doing.He does well with our cat but forgets that he isn't cat sized so he might intimidate timid or shy cats. He does bark at other dogs when on his leash but is getting better. He has gotten along with well socialized and very well behaved dogs. I'm not sure how he would do with reactive dogs.I don't think he would be good with little kids as when he gets excited he can become a 30lb bulldozer.Pringle does have a bite history and that is why we are rehoming. The 2 bite events were not aggressive. They seemed to be defensive and he was pretty upset after the event too. My son is autistic and does not read non-verbal cues well and doesn’t understand personal space. He likely overstepped a boundary. I am more than happy to give more details at a meet & greet, since I have a limited number of characters here.Pringle has had a few seizures but does not need any medication just an awareness to keep him safe.

Story
Stella is an eight year-old chill dog. She loves to cuddle. She loves to be around her family. When she sleeps at night she has to have her blanket, she wraps herself in her blanket, covers herself up and goes to bed. She is a teenage girl stuck in a dogs body, lots of personality. She does not like fireworks, thunderstorms or loud noises, it scares her. She use to sleep in bed with me till I kicked her out of my bed a few years ago. She will get under the covers and lay her head on the pillow next to you if you let her. We put her in her kennel if we’re going out shopping, running errands, ect. Other than that she has free run of our home. She needs attention, affection, not someone who lives in an apartment or will have her in a kennel often. She needs to run and play. She does not bark when gone. This dog is adventurous, she use to ride a sidecar motorcycle with me and has swam in two oceans, hiked mountains. She’s a free spirit.
