Story
Orange Crush (named after a Jelly Bean flavor) is a fun puppy learning puppy basic training (sit, down, stay, leash walk, potty training) in the Paws Behind Bars - Luther Luckett Correctional Complex Dog Training Program! He has a smoother coat, beautiful marble eyes, a lovely temperament and the bravery to try new things like horseback ride on our super friendly guy, Kipper! He is around seven months of age, has that reddish Terrier nose and earset. We believe his size will be similar to his mother's, around 35 pounds when grown. He has a DNA test and was a Heinz 57 breed mix of many breeds; among some of those listed, Pug, Beagle, Boxer, American Pit Bull Terrier, German Shepherd, Australian Shepherd, Rat Terrier and American Eskimo. Orange Crush will make a fun, family companion! If you'd like to meet this puppy, please email us at blueridgerescue@aol.com

Story
Kenai hasn't had the fairest hand in life. He was dumped at a literal dump, like he was trash. Then, as if that wasn't enough, Kenai contracted ringworm. Ringworm requires puppies and dogs to spend a longer-than-average quarantine period in the shelter to prevent it from spreading. Unfortunately, that kind of isolation can be especially hard on some dogs. While Kenai's siblings have been able to enjoy the company of other dogs, Kenai can be a little more selective. We consider his behavior dog selective because, at his core, Kenai is afraid of other dogs. If there is another dog in the home, we would recommend a mature, confident companion who won't be too pushy with him. Of course, a meet-and-greet will happen first with any potential dog siblings to make sure everyone is comfortable. Kenai was also very afraid when meeting children. The curious, touchy, quick and quirky nature of little humans is simply not his cup of tea. Older children who understand boundaries and have a calmer demeanor would be a much better fit for this sensitive boy. Kenai needs a home where his people will understand his fear and uncertainty rather than expect him to overcome everything overnight. He needs patience. He needs consistency. Most of all, he needs someone willing to show him that not every human is going to let him down. The world hasn't been very kind to Kenai. But you can be. ❤️ If you're ready to give Kenai the gentle, accepting, loving home he deserves, submit an adoption application for him today.

Story
Pringle is a 3yr old loving goofball that wants to be part of whatever you are doing. He is unbothered by fireworks. He does well with our cat but forgets that he isn't cat sized so he might intimidate timid or shy cats.He does bark at other dogs when on leash but is getting better. He has gotten along with well socialized and well behaved dogs off leash.Pringle might not be a good match with little kids as he can become a 30lb bulldozer when he gets excited.Pringle does have a bite history and that is why we are rehoming. The 2 bite events were not aggressive. They seemed to be defensive and he was pretty upset after the event too. My son is autistic and does not read non-verbal cues well and doesn’t understand personal space. He likely overstepped a boundary. I can give more details during the interview or meet & greet, since I have a limited space here.Pringle has had a few seizures but does not need any medication just an awareness to keep him safe. Last seizure 4/22/26

Story
Kodiak may be the runt of the Alaska litter, but what he lacks in size, he more than makes up for in love. This precious little guy is happiest when he's soaking up attention from people. While he gets along wonderfully with his siblings and other dogs, nothing compares to being the center of someone's affection. You may notice that Kodiak's left ear looks a little different in some of his photos. He came to us with an ear hematoma, which has left his ear looking a bit crinkled. This ear does not cause him any pain. It just gives him a quirky little cosmetic detail. Kodiak and his Alaska-themed siblings were found abandoned at a dump, but those difficult days are behind them. Now, this sweet Beagle/Shepherd mix puppy is safe at The Humane Society of Oldham County, where he's waiting for the family he's always deserved. Like all HSOC puppies, Kodiak's adoption fee includes his neuter, age-appropriate vaccinations, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives, and FREE puppy training. If you're looking for a tiny best friend with a huge heart, Kodiak is ready to meet you. Submit an adoption application today to schedule your visit with this lovable little guy!
