Bagel here, reporting for duty!I’m a young hound-type gentleman who may be part Beagle, part Basset Hound, and 100% committed to investigating every smell in my vicinity. Seriously, every smell. I walk pretty nicely on leash, but I do like to stop frequently for important sniffing business. You wouldn’t want me to miss a single neighbourhood update, would you?I came into the shelter as a stray, so my past is a bit of a mystery. What we do know is that I can be a little unsure when something is new, and sudden noises can startle me. The good news is that I recover quickly and, once I realize you’re a friend, I warm up beautifully. My favourite thing in the world so far seems to be attention from people. I’ll lean into you, put my paws up for more pets, and happily snuggle in close. I’ve even let my friends pick me up and hold me in their lap, where I relaxed and simply enjoyed watching the world go by. Basically, I may be a hound, but I am also an aspiring professional cuddler.I was a little hesitant when meeting a new person, but once they gave me some space and let me approach at my own pace, I was happy to say hello, accept pets and keep coming back for more. Gentle introductions are definitely the way to my heart. Give me a little time to figure things out, and I’ll usually find my courage.When I met another friendly dog, I was pretty neutral and independent. I was more interested in sniffing and exploring than playing, but I was polite, comfortable being sniffed, and happy to mill around nearby. I even pulled a little when my new doggy friend walked away, so perhaps I was more interested than I let on! A calm, respectful and confident canine companion could be a good match for me. I haven’t been assessed with cats, so that’s still a question mark, although because I’m young, dog-savvy cats and slow, appropriate introductions may be possible.My feelings about kids are also unknown, but because I’m cuddly, calm and enjoy gentle attention, my friends suspect I could do well with children of any age. As with any young dog with an unknown history, respectful supervision and teaching everyone how to interact kindly would be important.I’m not particularly food motivated right now, but that may change once I’m settled into a home and discover a food or treat that really gets my attention. For now, attention is definitely my favourite reward. Toys haven’t quite won me over either, although perhaps my playful side
