We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 100-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.-Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
Meet Teddy! At just three months old and 20 pounds, Teddy is the cutest beagle/boxer mix on the block! Even though Teddy is just a young pup, he is one impressive guy! At such a young age he already knows sit and shake! This pup is highly trainable and very well-tempered. He's playful, affectionate, and very tolerant-all the things you could want a young pup to be! He also takes his treats gently. Teddy is a very social guy with everyone he meets-both people and pups alike! He will benefit from continued training, lots of daily exercise, and a yard to enjoy in his new home. Looking for a pal to hit the trail with? Teddy is always up for adventure and will thrive in a home where his mental and physical needs can be met. Based on our evaluation, we feel Teddy would do best in an active home with adults or families with kids ages five and up. He may have the ability to live in a home with other animals and we are happy to do a meet and greet with your family fur baby. If you think he could be the pup you've been searching for, head to greatlakesdogrescue.com today and submit your application for our terrific Teddy!

Story
Mister is a sweet little buddy, 5 years old, who loves to cuddle and to play with anyone. He does great with dogs that are his size and smaller. I think he’d be happiest with another dog to live with but I’d consider all options for him.
