Story
Meet Zuno!Zuno recently went on a Doggie Day Out and showed just how sweet, curious, and people-oriented he is. This energetic explorer loves being with his person and stayed happily close throughout the day, enjoying every moment of attention. He’s food motivated, quiet (never barked!), and an excellent listener who’s eager to do well.Zuno did great on outings and adventures, he loved his car ride and settled nicely in the back seat, patiently waiting for a pup cup stop before continuing the fun. While walking through busy areas like Old Sacramento and DOCO, he showed curiosity toward new sights and smells and handled distractions impressively. When passing another dog who was a bit wound up, Zuno calmly sat, focused on his handler, and waited until it was safe to continue, a huge win!Like many dogs, Zuno can be a little unsure around unfamiliar objects (a statue on a bench gave him pause), but he looked to his handler for reassurance and kept moving forward. He may try to lead a bit on walks, but with a shorter leash and guidance, he does very well. He noticed geese from a distance but calmly observed and continued on without issue. After picking out his own toys and treats at Petco, Zuno finished his day with a long walk before heading back to the shelter. Overall, he showed no major concerns, just a sweet, affectionate dog who’s ready to learn and thrive in a loving home. Whoever adopts Zuno is truly going to be lucky!

Story
NOTE: MAGGIE IS WITH THE COUPLE WHO FOUND HER AND TOOK HER TO THEIR HOME IN DURHAM, CA (NEAR CHICO). GSRSV HAS NOT MET MAGGIE. WE ARE LISTING MAGGIE FOR ADOPTION ON THIS WEBSITE ALONG WITH OUR OWN DOGS TO GIVER HER MORE ADOPTION EXPOSURE. PLEASE SEE END OF THIS PROFILE FOR CONTACT INFO. "Maggie" is a button-cute, approx 6-mos old female Belgian Malinois mix pup in urgent need of another foster or permanent home. Maggie showed up at a construction site near Chico on 5-17-25, and one of the workers took her home. The worker and his wife (Jennifer) had the pup scanned for a chip, but she does not have one. The couple have been keeping Maggie at their house, but they already have one dog and their landlord--who lives next door--will not allow them to keep a second dog. The landlord has given the couple until Sunday, June 1, to relocate Maggie. Here's whAt Jennifer has to say about Maggie: "She is a sweet girl who is eager to learn. She was not house broken at all when we picked her up but only has a few accidents now. Doing great in a kennel over night. She loves being close and cuddling and is a love bug. She is learning to sit. She is great with new people. She had not met my oldest son before but I had to leave Saturday to help my middle son move from San Jose and she had no aggression to him coming in to the house with his dog and girlfriend. All three dogs [including her Pit Bull] played great all day with no issues." Maggie is located in Durham, just south of Chico. If you can foster Maggie for Jennifer and her husband, or if you're interested in adopting Maggie, please contact Jennifer Gomez at 530-415-2947 or jen.whirlpartners@gmail.com.

Story
"Jade" is a 35-lb, 2-yo, spayed female Belgian Malinois mix who is energetic, affectionate, and smart. Jade is healthy, up-to-date on core vaccinations, and microchipped. Given Jade's petite size, she is clearly mixed with a smaller breed than a Belgian Malinois. Jade is very focused on her foster caretaker (Regina) and shadows her around the house. She is friendly with strangers, but can be a little nervous and vocal at first; once she is comfortable, she enjoys being petted. Jade has yet to be around young children since we rescued her, and due to her high energy and nervousness with strangers, we are seeking a home for her with no children under the age of twelve years. Jade is great with other dogs. She gets along great with the 75-lb neutered male GSD mix she lives with; she loves to play rough with him. Also, she was fine with the neighbor’s 15-lb dog who came into Regina’s yard from under the fence; Jade just wanted to play. Jade has a high prey drive (goes after squirrels) and is NOT a candidate for a home with cats. Jade is food-motivated and picks up on commands quickly. She is fully housetrained and non-destructive inside. Regina does keep her crated when she is away from the house, and also crates her at night. Jade does fine in the crate. Jade walks great on a leash when there are no distractions. She is somewhat reactive towards other dogs she sees on walks, but responds well to correction. Regina is working with Jade to minimize her reactiveness towards other dogs on walks. Jade enjoys car rides and is a calm passenger. Jade loves toys, especially tennis balls, and is always ready for a game of fetch. Jade was brought to the Sacramento City animal shelter as an owner surrender on [Date?]. Regina began to foster her for the shelter in early April, and Jade was adopted two weeks later. However, due to a couple of incidents in which Jade charged other dogs (without attacking), the adopters returned her to the shelter May 24. At that point Jade was no longer eligible for the shelter’s foster program and was scheduled for euthanasia due to overcrowding. Regina, who had fostered a few dogs previously for GSRSV, offered to foster Jade again if we rescued her, which we did on June 5. Jade is located in East Sacramento. Her adoption fee, which is normally $250, is only $150.

Story
"Lulu" is an approx 60-lb, 2-yo spayed female Belgian Malinois mix who is super-affectionate, energetic and playful. She might be described as a firecracker--she has that fun, explosive kind of personality! Lulu is healthy, up-to-date on core vaccinations and microchipped. Lulu is an absolute sweetie with people, both those she knows and strangers as well. I have not observed Lulu around children yet, but I'm pretty sure she'll be fine with most kids. My only reservation is that Lulu still likes to jump up on me when she's excited, and this would be a problem for some kids. Lulu simply needs a little more training to overcome her jumping habit. Lulu is fantastic with other dogs, and in fact, I'd really like to see her go to a home with another young, playful dog so that she'll have a playmate with whom to burn off some of her considerable energy. She'd be fine with both a male or a submissive female. (See elsewhere on this page for a video of Lulu playing with Gretchen, a 3-yo female Norwegian Elkhound mix.) I have not observed Lulu around cats but I doubt that she will be good with them given her high energy level and the known prey drive of Belgian Malinois. Lulu is completely housetrained and non-destructive in the house (at least in the presence of other dogs). She is good on leash and has excellent off-leash recall. She's smart as a whip, which is characteristic of the Belgian Malinois breed. She's also fairly headstrong, which is more characteristic of the Terrier breed. For example, when Lulu is on my bed and I ask her to move, she will ignore me initially until I repeat myself a little louder--sometimes more than twice. Lulu appears to have received some basic obedience training, as she immediately sits on command. Lulu does have one behavioral drawback and that's her ability to scale fences. She can easily go over a 6-ft chain link fence. I'm not sure about a 6-ft wood fence, but if it has cross-rails facing towards the year, she'd probably be able to use them to scale the fence. Lulu will go right over the 6-ft chain link fence in a separate yard I've tried to keep her in previously, but she does NOT go over the 5-ft wire fence nor the 6-ft chain link fence surrounding my property. She simply wants to be with the pack, and I'm pretty sure she would not try to jump a 6-ft fence when left in the company of a compatible dog. Lulu loves to go for car rides and is a very good passenger. She loves to play fetch and to play tug-of-war. She can get a little mouthy when she gets really excited, but nothing out-of-control. GSRSV rescued Lulu from the animal shelter in Wasco, CA, on 11-13-25. She had been brought to the shelter as a stray in August of this year and was nearing euthanasia when I rescued her. Lulu is located in Pleasant Grove, CA. Her adoption fee is $300.

Tiramisu is currently two years old and finds great delight in spending time in the living room, where she has ample space to run, play, and explore. She has been trained and is familiar with being sprayed for hygiene purposes. In search of a new home, Tramisu would greatly benefit from a larger living space, preferably with a yard where she can freely frolic and engage in outdoor activities. Tramisu has a sociable nature, thoroughly enjoying playtime and interactions with people. She possesses an abundance of energy, exudes affection, and eagerly embraces meeting new individuals.

He’s generally well trained and knows sit, stay, fetch, and retrieve—and he’s an excellent ball player who happily retrieves and drops the ball like a pro. He’s very quiet (rarely barks), great in the car, and settles beautifully in the home. Bravo does well with easy-going dogs and truly shines when he’s with his person. Bravo was found walking the streets in full gear and is believed to have belonged to a homeless man. Because of this, he strongly gravitates toward his person and clearly loves being with someone full-time. He shows tremendous patience, calmness, and loyalty with his people. He would make an outstanding support or companion dog for an active veteran or anyone seeking a 24/7 best friend. Bravo could also thrive with an experienced German Shepherd family—but fair warning: he loves to jump up and is 80 pounds of fun, so a confident, dog-savvy home is important. If you’re looking for a loyal shadow, adventure buddy, and constant companion—Bravo is your guy. $250 Adoption Donation includes: Neuter, Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella, and microchip Interested in adopting? 1. Story
Clay is a 4 year old neutered male livestock guardian/shepherd mix. He loves people more than anything. He is good with cats and small dogs. He is okay with some large dogs and not others. He has not been observed around young kids. Clay is medium energy. He loves to run and play as well as cuddle and nap. He is still building confidence in new situations and with new people. He is very shy in public. At home, he is confident and always wants to be by his person's side. He will need someone willing to go slowly when introducing him to new people, animals and experiences. Clay was found on the streets of Modesto as a stray. No one claimed him. He was set to be euthanized at the shelter due to overpopulation before we took him. At the shelter, he was terrified and kept to himself in the corner, shut down in fear. In his foster home, he is lively and social.
