Leah IS AVAILALBE (updated 06-17-2024).To meet any of our dogs you must first complete our online adoption application on our website. For more information and the adoption application for Leah, please visit our website belowhttp://www.coastalgsr.org/dog_profile.php?ID=22329&name=LeahLeah came to us a terrified, shut down, feral dog whom animal control had confiscated from a very bad situation. She was so shut down, it took a long (long!) time to get her to allow any type of interaction with humans. We spent month after month earning her trust, socializing her, and teaching her to overcome her many fears. Around 6 years old now, she moved from the training facility into a foster home and is doing fantastic, but will need a special adopter. At first, she was scared to enter the house, the tile scared her, and it took coaxing for her to enter. Leah now seeks affection, is playing with toys, plays with her human foster, is totally comfortable being inside, crate trained, potty trained, and is learning that the world isnâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t such a scary place. She went to the beach for the first time and loved it!While she&#39s your normal, energetic Maligator in her foster home, she is still figuring out the world outside of those doors. She spends time every day being exposed to new things, but when she&#39s scared she does try to bolt. She used to hit the end of the leash and frantically chew to break free (which is why she wears a long fur saver), but now, when something new and loud is that scary, she bolts and stops when she hits the end of the leash, even going into a sit. Leah is a jaw snapping, toy playing, chew obsessed Malinois in her home and is going to need someone who understands Mals, who can supply structure, who is patient, and who can slowly build trust with her. Because she&#39s such a flight risk, we are going to be very careful about where we place her, because she means the world to us.The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.June 17, 2024, 5:42 am

They were being given away &#39free to good home&#39 and were rescued by an animal lover who didn&#39t want to see them land in the wrong hands! Fiona settled into the kennel life very easily and charmed her way into the hearts of all of the volunteers. She needed treatment for a cancerous tumor that she likely got when she became pregnant with her pups. The good news here is that she is done with her treatments and has been cancer free for over 6 months! Yay for Fiona! Fiona would love a home to call her own. She has been to obedience training, knows all her basic commands and walks well on a leash. She would do best in a home with older kids and no other dogs or cats. She loves car rides and would love an active lifestyle! If Fiona sounds like a fit for you, please let us know. We would love to chat with you about Fiona! The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. For more information and the adoption application for Atlas, please visit our website belowhttp://www.coastalgsr.org/dog_profile.php?ID=22179&name=AtlasAtlas is a sweet, five and half year old Belgian Malinois looking for the perfect &#39furever&#39 home! This handsome boy has basic obedience down, is crate trained, walks well on a leash and loves being with &#39his&#39 person. He is a little cautious when meeting new people but warms up quickly if he&#39s given the space to get to know you. He has a medium prey drive when it comes to toys, but does well with other dogs, big and small. We are unsure of how he is with cats in a household, but he hasn&#39t shown much interest when he encounters them out and about in town. He loves his daily walks and runs and would be the perfect addition to an active household. He could also make a good candidate for low level sport dog work as he&#39s showing good drive in his training. He will need a secure yard as he can jump upwards of 6â&#194&#128&#194&#153 fences. He&#39s neutered and up to date on his vaccines. Please inquire only if you have experience with Working Dogs and/or the Belgian Malinois breed. The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. Story
Meet FRANCO, a 2yo shepherd/malinois mix. We rescued FRANCO from the Downey shelter where he had shown up with a broken leg. He's long since healed up and he's looking for a forever home with someone who ideally has "shepherd and/or working dog" experience. FRANCO is a young, athletic dog who responds well to a confident leader. He is very loving, attentive, and loyal. He likes long walks, jogs, and he LOVES playing in water. He has been working with a trainer each week who has been teaching him and exposing him to different activities and environments and attends a small group class Check out video of him working the "lunge line" and other videos https://youtu.be/qakqEbGqKBg https://www.instagram.com/p/CZC4rD2PgvX/ https://www.instagram.com/p/CYxeijXp4zZ/ If you adopt FRANCO - he comes with a limited number of free sessions with his trainer (depending on location) to help you get off to a great start! FRANCO is about 70lbs and currently at our kennel in South Gate. He is crate-trained, house-trained, neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations. If you are in the Los Angeles area and interested in meeting FRANCO, please fill out our brief online questionnaire (copy and paste link): www.downtowndogrescue.org/adoption-questionnaire Additional Downtown Dog Rescue information email: adopt@downtowndogrescue.org or call: 818-407-4145

Story
Meet gentle BENSON, a 90lb, black and tan German Shepherd, who spent time at two LA City shelters before we rescued him. During his time at South LA and North Central shelters he participated in several dog playgroups and was a volunteer favorite. This handsome guy is estimated to be about 4 years old. BENSON spent time at our kennel and is currently in a foster home with another dog. He has a nice calm energy with a playful side too. Don't let BENSON's "size" deter you from meeting him. He walks extremely well on leash and takes treats gently. Benson can be a little reserved when you first meet him but he enjoys being close to people and has an affectionate, loyal personality. BENSON is neutered, micro-chipped, house-broken and current on shots. If you are in the Los Angeles area and would like to meet him, please fill out our brief adoption questionnaire at downtowndogrescue.org/adoption-questionnaire and we will get back to you. #ddrbenson
