Story
You wouldn't think it'd be so hard to find a foster or adopter for a beautiful young mal, but here we are posting time and time again over the last few months with absolutely no interest in our girl Phoenix! Abandoned at just 8 months old—pregnant, scared, and left on an elderly man’s property in Corpus Christi, TX—her journey has been nothing short of remarkable. She was rescued just 24 hours before going into labor, and despite being a baby herself, Phoenix gave birth to seven puppies. While not all survived, she fulfilled her motherly duties and is now ready for her Second Start in life. Phoenix is a 1-year-old Malinois mix with the energy and drive typical of her breed. She’s incredibly smart, eager to learn, and has the potential to excel at activities like agility, nose work, or obedience training. Her foster mom says she’s a quick study and loves a good challenge. She can sniff out treats like a pro and thrives on both physical and mental stimulation. Phoenix is already crate trained and house trained, though she may need a day or two to adjust to a new environment. While she does well with other dogs, she isn’t the biggest fan of cats, so a cat-free home is ideal--though she is learning to co-exist with them. Phoenix’s ideal family is active and experienced, ready to help her channel her boundless energy into fun and fulfilling activities. Whether it’s hiking, mountain biking, or long runs, she’s the perfect fitness partner. Puzzle toys and training sessions also keep her sharp and happy. Let’s get Phoenix on the road to Virginia and into the loving home she deserves! If you’re ready for a loyal, active, and intelligent companion, Phoenix might just be your perfect match.

If so, Akiro might be the perfect addition to your family. Akiro is a sweet, shy boy who has faced more than his share of challenges. This gentle soul needs a special kind of adopter—someone who can provide the time and care required to help him overcome his fears and become the confident, loving companion he’s meant to be. Akiro will thrive best with someone experienced in handling anxious dogs. He needs a patient and understanding approach as he builds trust at his own pace. A calm and steady home environment will help him feel secure, and a predictable routine will make him more comfortable and confident. Positive reinforcement training is crucial for helping Akiro work through his fears. With gentle guidance, he can learn to approach new experiences with greater ease. Building trust with Akiro is a gradual process, so a dedicated owner who is committed to spending quality time with him and introducing him to new things slowly is essential. Once Akiro feels safe, he will reveal his deep affection and loyalty. His gentle nature will shine through as he begins to trust you. He enjoys quiet moments and will thrive in a serene home environment where he can relax and feel at ease. Important Note: Commitment Required Due to Akiro’s sensitive nature and the dedication needed for his development, we are not accepting returns for him. Akiro’s progress is delicate, and it’s essential that he finds a stable, committed home where he can continue his journey without interruption. Akiro needs an owner who is ready to invest in his training and socialization. Moving between homes can disrupt his progress, lead to separation anxiety, and hinder his development. If you’re prepared to offer Akiro a stable and loving environment and are committed to his ongoing growth, we invite you to consider adopting him. Your dedication will play a crucial role in helping Akiro become the confident and happy companion he’s meant to be. __________________________________If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application.Apply to adopt at: www.nerdypaws.org Nerdy Paws Animal Rescue is a foster based rescue in Springfield, VA. We do not have a shelter, all of our animals are in foster homes. We require all potential adopters to fill out an application before setting up a meeting with the animal and their foster family. Story
Meet Channing! Channing is a vibrant and playful pup just over 4 years old, looking for a loving forever home. Adopted from our rescue four years ago, Channing has grown into an energetic companion who loves to play catch and run around the yard. He would thrive in a home with a fenced yard where he can enjoy plenty of playtime and outdoor adventures. Channing is the perfect match for a family that enjoys an active lifestyle and can provide him with regular exercise. We were told he loves other dogs; however, since he has been in the kennel environment, he does not appear to be dog friendly. He is kid friendly though. He would love the company of older children to play with. When he's not running around, Channing is incredibly affectionate and will let you know when he wants some love and attention. He's also a pro at cozying up at the end of the bed or next to you on the couch while you watch TV or read a book. Channing is house-trained, responds well to basic commands like sit and stay, and is up to date on his vaccinations. He's also neutered and ready to be your loyal companion. With his loving personality and zest for life, Channing is a wonderful dog with so much love to give. If you're looking for an energetic, affectionate, and playful dog to join your family, Channing might just be the perfect fit! Complete our online application at animalfriendsva.org and we'll arrange a meet and greet to see if he's the one you've been looking for.

Story
Meli is a loving, energetic, and playful dog who was rescued from a shelter in the DC area. Born in July 2023, she is now about a year and a half old and full of life. Unfortunately, due to recent changes in my circumstances, I am no longer able to provide Meli with the care and attention she deserves. I believe she would thrive in a home where she can receive the time, love, and dedication she needs to live her best life. Meli truly is a special companion, and she will bring so much joy to her future family.

Story
Indy is a 3 year old, very loving Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix (75% Mal & 25% German). Indy came to us as a 12 week old puppy and we have been her only owners since. We are having to rehome Indy as we recently had our second born child, have an imminent transfer out of state and have been unable to give Indy the care and physical activity she deserves. Indy is high energy, loves playing fetch. Her bursts of energy need to be followed up by physical activities. She has been 100% house trained since she was 1 yr old and follows basic commands very well. She is very protective of her family and our property and definitely likes being part of "the pack." While she doesn't bark or growl at anyone during a walk, unless approached directly, she will do so if she sees people walking in front of the house or if someone is approaches our fence. She is skiddish with new people but once she trusts you she loves you forever.

Story
Two beautiful brindle sisters (Coco and Chica) are looking for their forever home(s). I rescued these two girls as neglected street puppies on Bonaire. They were smart & affectionate & needed a better solution than to grow up street dogs. The girls are well socialized with all kinds of people: adults and children. They aim to please. They are easy to train and learn easily & readily. They sleep through the night in their crates. They are learning how to walk on leash. I would the girls to be a package deal but I understand two dogs may be a lot. They survived together & it is beautiful to see such a bond. They traveled from bonaire to curaçao to toronto & now baltimore. Wonderful road dogs. They need a home that is active. They would enjoy running and lots of space — they are not apartment dwellers. I am a cat person but fell in love with these girls and knew I could help give them a better lot in life. They will make a wonderful part of your family.
