** I am currently being housed at our New York Avenue location. Come meet me at 1201 New York Avenue NE, every day from 12pm-7pm. Or visit humanerescuealliance.org/how-to-adopt to learn more. No time to come to the shelter? Meet me virtually during our open hours, note that wait time may vary for virtual meet and greets and we require same day pick up if you decide to adopt: https://waitwhile.com/locations/hra-nyawelcomestatio/r/welcome Hello, Burrito here, and just like the food, I have a solid foundation and am filled with many good things! My solid foundation is of course my good looks (glad you asked). Black mouth cur dogs are known to be handsome and I am no exception with my tan coat and then my gentle black face. And did you see that tiny white spot on my nose? On the inside I am filled with fun and love for my new people, with energy for good walks and play with other pups. What's not to love?I was found as a stray here in DC and a nice person made sure I got to the shelter. Initially I was a bit nervous here, but over time I learned that I could trust the nice people here. Treats and having another dog around to help me overcome my fear really helped! So, if you have some time and patience and an open heart for a cute pup like me, we can start our new life together today. I'll be sure to fill it with many good things!

Story
Now some of you youngsters might now remember the name… Little Jimmy Dickens.  He and Brad Paisley had a very special bond where Brad looked up (or down) at this little man who forged an unbelievable legacy in the country music world.  He was not even 5 foot tall but his spirit and his heart was a giant Red Oak.  But just like this short country music legend called Little Jimmy Dickens, this puppy named after him, has a much smaller stature than his siblings and doesn’t lack in personality or intelligence!  He will grow to be a 50-60 pound adult dog.  He is currently almost 3-4 months and well on his way to the ability to be potty trained and trained quickly.  Although these 4 pups were found roaming on a back road, they are far from wanders and have quickly settled into knowing their foster home rules and requirements to live harmoniously! These pups are not roamers or runner risks, but they never leave your side! They have been with small children, cats, other dogs, cows, and birds (guineas and chickens and are just best friends) and aside from an initial curiosity, Little Jimmy and his sibs are overall passive about other animals and kids!   If you would like to make this handsome easy going boy your family companion for the next 15+ years…then email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com and ask for an application once you have given  them the location of where you live?  City and state. PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.June 18, 2024, 7:33 am

Story
Ray Bay is a wonderful puppy who has a larger-than-life personality with a curiosity that knows no bounds.   This puppy who was found with his 3 siblings in the middle of a desolate rural Tennessee area, is the biggest of all personalities in his litter and as well he is the largest of the size!  Although they were found roaming on a back road highway in Tennessee, these pups are far from wanderers and have quickly settled into knowing their foster home rules and expectations.  This group of Black Mouth Cur puppies will never leave your side!  They have been with small children, cats, other dogs, cows, and birds (Guinea us and chickens) and aside from an initial curiosity they are overall passive about other animals and kids!   Ray Bay is 34 pounds at just 4 months of age and will be much larger boy than his siblings.  He will most likely top out at 70- pounds and will be the most handsome boy ever!   If you are interested to know more and fill out an application, please email us at ccrnewengland@gmail.com and will send you an application.  Please tell us FIRST where you live, city and state. DISCLOSURE: The adoptable pets in our program are still in the care and custody of owners who wish to re-home their pet. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Ripley is 8yo, weighs 45lbs, is spayed, is microchipped, but is not up to date on her vaccines (guardian will update her vaccines prior to adoption).  Since the move, poor Ripley is living in the in-laws' basement and although she has a tv, is visited by in-laws occasionally, and visited by human dad after work, she's essentially alone about 20 hours per day, which is distressing to her guardians.  Ripley is good in the car, can 'sit' and 'stay', dislikes/fears fireworks, loud bang noises such as bb guns/gun shots, rain, water, and being left alone.  Ripley had a litter in the past and was wonderful with her puppies, but because of the other dog attack, she's aggressive toward larger and older dogs. Ripley's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome her:  Through no fault of her own, Ripley needs a new home because her guardians fell on hard times.  They had to downsize to an apartment, cannot afford the pet deposit/additional monthly pet fee and vet care.  Additionally, since there are 2 small babies in the household and Ripley often plays rough, she doesn't know her own strength and could knock over and hurt the babies.  Finally, there are many dogs in the new neighborhood and since Ripley's bite incident, she is aggressive to larger or older dogs. BITE INCIDENT:  Approximately 4 years ago, Ripley bit another dog who breached her territory and cornered her; the bite broke the skin, animal control was not involved, and the other dog was treated and is fine.  Ripley's guardian explains:   "About 4 years ago, a larger dog came into our yard and cornered Ripley.  Ripley acted in fear and self defense and bit the other dog on the mouth.  Since this occurred Ripley is very aggressive to larger or older dogs.  Other dog was treated and is perfectly fine, we paid the vet bills and there was no ill will."   Ripley's guardian offers a brief medical history:  Seasonal allergies on Ripley's paws from the grass. Ripley's guardian states the following regarding children:  Although Ripley has lived with small children, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with small children, stating: "Ripley is currently residing with my in-laws in there basement until we can find her a new home.  We have brought our two daughters, (one is 17 months and the other 2 months) to visit her and socialize but we can't have the girls on the floor with her because she doesn't understand her own strength with playing   But when we're holding the babies, she does smother them with kisses and cuddles.  She loves them, just plays too rough.  She has been around kids around 4 and older and is perfectly great and sweet with them.  But she has intense zoomies where she can barrel through them so we steer them clear of her when she's running like that.  She also loves tug a war and she gets too into it and nips playfully when biting the toy and sometimes accidentally bites your finger and it hurts wayy to bad for a small child.  Even for an adult it hurts pretty bad." Ripley's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Although Ripley has lived with dogs, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with dogs, stating: "She is very aggressive to other dogs, except puppies.  She has had a litter in the past and loves babies so she is good with them if introduced correctly.  We got a puppy about 3 years ago and she raised him and loved him like a baby.  But other older dogs, or other dogs outside of our home, she acts very aggressive and barks and has incredibly intense anxiety.  You better have her on a leash or a very strong grip on her because it will be bad." Ripley's guardian states the following regarding cats:   Although Ripley has lived with cats, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with dogs, stating: "Ripley has always been good with cats and has lived with two in the past.  But I say no to living with them because she hasn't been socialized with them in a couple years and it really depends on if the cat is okay with dogs." Ripley's guardian describes her as: Very active Barks alot Playful Friendly Fence Jumper Likes to be touched Affectionate Protective Always at your side Indoor dog Outdoor dog House-Trained Crate-Trained Likes men Likes women Separation anxiety Ripley's guardian describes her ideal future home:  "Fenced-in yard, experienced owner, no pets or small children.
