** I am currently being housed at our New York Avenue location. Come meet me at 1201 New York Avenue NE, every day from 12pm-7pm. Or visit humanerescuealliance.org/how-to-adopt to learn more. No time to come to the shelter? Meet me virtually during our open hours, note that wait time may vary for virtual meet and greets and we require same day pick up if you decide to adopt: https://waitwhile.com/locations/hra-nyawelcomestatio/r/welcome Hello, Burrito here, and just like the food, I have a solid foundation and am filled with many good things! My solid foundation is of course my good looks (glad you asked). Black mouth cur dogs are known to be handsome and I am no exception with my tan coat and then my gentle black face. And did you see that tiny white spot on my nose? On the inside I am filled with fun and love for my new people, with energy for good walks and play with other pups. What's not to love?I was found as a stray here in DC and a nice person made sure I got to the shelter. Initially I was a bit nervous here, but over time I learned that I could trust the nice people here. Treats and having another dog around to help me overcome my fear really helped! So, if you have some time and patience and an open heart for a cute pup like me, we can start our new life together today. I'll be sure to fill it with many good things!

Story
I'm in a FOSTER HOME! To schedule a time to meet with me, please contact my foster parent at paola.a.pino@gmail.com.Pepper is a sweet & timid young girl who loves nothing more than to be near her humans! Pepper loves to run and romp around the yard, playing fetch (learning to bring the ball back), or chomping at the water hose! She's great with other dogs, and we have even witnessed that she walks right by our neighborhood cat and gives him no attention! Pepper is crate trained, and potty-trained! She will go right into her crate on command! Initially, she will bark/cry if she has not exhausted all of her energy, but after 5-10 mins she will go to sleep. She sleeps through the night (9pm to 7am) in her crate. Pepper loves food! She's on the thin side so she's been getting an extra scoop! She has been dewormed, spayed and UTD on her vaccines. She knows 'sit' and we're working on other basic commands like 'heel' & 'stay'. Overall, Pepper walks well on the leash, and sometimes will pull but not much. She would make a great running partner! Pepper is a low to medium-energy level dog; doesn't take much to wear her out or for her to settle down. Loves yak cheese with a little bit of peanut butter! And I've been told that she loves kids! She is a very sweet & sensitive girl who is looking for her perfect family that can love her, understand her and give her all the hugs and kisses she wants! If you think you're her perfect match, inquire within for a meet-n-greet @prettyboyaussie on Instagram!

Story
Now some of you youngsters might now remember the name… Little Jimmy Dickens.  He and Brad Paisley had a very special bond where Brad looked up (or down) at this little man who forged an unbelievable legacy in the country music world.  He was not even 5 foot tall but his spirit and his heart was a giant Red Oak.  But just like this short country music legend called Little Jimmy Dickens, this puppy named after him, has a much smaller stature than his siblings and doesn’t lack in personality or intelligence!  He will grow to be a 50-60 pound adult dog.  He is currently almost 3-4 months and well on his way to the ability to be potty trained and trained quickly.  Although these 4 pups were found roaming on a back road, they are far from wanders and have quickly settled into knowing their foster home rules and requirements to live harmoniously! These pups are not roamers or runner risks, but they never leave your side! They have been with small children, cats, other dogs, cows, and birds (guineas and chickens and are just best friends) and aside from an initial curiosity, Little Jimmy and his sibs are overall passive about other animals and kids!   If you would like to make this handsome easy going boy your family companion for the next 15+ years…then email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com and ask for an application once you have given  them the location of where you live?  City and state. PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.June 20, 2024, 11:55 pm

Story
Ray Bay is a wonderful puppy who has a larger-than-life personality with a curiosity that knows no bounds.   This puppy who was found with his 3 siblings in the middle of a desolate rural Tennessee area, is the biggest of all personalities in his litter and as well he is the largest of the size!  Although they were found roaming on a back road highway in Tennessee, these pups are far from wanderers and have quickly settled into knowing their foster home rules and expectations.  This group of Black Mouth Cur puppies will never leave your side!  They have been with small children, cats, other dogs, cows, and birds (Guinea us and chickens) and aside from an initial curiosity they are overall passive about other animals and kids!   Ray Bay is 34 pounds at just 4 months of age and will be much larger boy than his siblings.  He will most likely top out at 70- pounds and will be the most handsome boy ever!   If you are interested to know more and fill out an application, please email us at ccrnewengland@gmail.com and will send you an application.  Please tell us FIRST where you live, city and state. This sweet little Georgia girl is hoping to find a warm, safe home with a loving forever family. She loves other dogs and would love to find a home with a doggy buddy or too. Story
Name: Suzy Sex: Female Estimated Age: About 5 months old (as of 6/1/24) Best Guess for Breed: Black Mouth Cur Mix Weight: About 25 lbs (as of 5/20/24) Good With: Dogs, people, cats and kids - puppies are in the prime of socialization! Story: Suzy was rescued from an overcrowded shelter in North Carolina. Suzy is a super sweetie that loves all people and gets along great with other dogs and puppies. She knows just how to get comfortable up on the couch with her humans, and will love to join you on walks and trots around the neighborhood. Suzy is just looking for someone to be her new best furend and we know that she will repay them with endless amounts of love and tail wags. As a puppy, Suzy will need an adopter who is committed to setting her up for success by enrolling in obedience training and exercising her both mentally and physically. She will also need love, patience, and socialization in order to thrive! SUZY’S PERFECT MATCH - Perfect Family: Suzy would do well with anyone who is ready and able to give her their time and attention. She has been around children and is happy to be around them and get pets from them! She is not necessarily aggressive with cats BUT she seems to think chasing them is a game, so she would be best in a home either without cats, or with an owner that is willing and prepared to train her to behave appropriately with cats in the home. Suzy enjoys having another dog around, and would be so happy if her furever home had another dog waiting for her. That said, she’s also happy to soak up all of the attention as an only dog. Perfect Home: Suzy is gaining her confidence going on walks through the neighborhood—she doesn’t mind being on a leash. She enjoys being out in the backyard playing with her humans or another dog. That' said, she’d do well in any environment - she’s an adaptable puppy. Exercise Needs: Suzy loves to play, but this girl is a napper for sure. Give her a pillow or a pile of blankets to lay on next to you and she is happy! Between naps, she is happy to entertain herself with her toys or playing with another dog in the house. She is getting much better about going on walks, and loves to see birds and squirrels outside. She likes to zoom around in the backyard, although she is still learning what she can and can’t chew on, and that she’s not allowed to dig holes, so she needs supervision still. She’s still a puppy! Behavior In Home: Suzy is a sweet and gentle girl. At first meeting, she has a shy and reserved demeanor, atypical of most high-energy puppies her age, but once she warms up to you, get ready for love, play, and cuddles! She loves to follow her humans around and be close to them, and always greets them with tail wags and kisses. Although she is a bit shy by nature, she likes meeting new humans, including young children. She takes just a bit longer to get comfortable around other dogs (not aggressive or protective, just cautious and shy), looking to her humans for direction, but once she finds her confidence, she is ready to play. Her energy is perfectly balanced—she loves playtime but knows when it’s time to settle down for a nap with her humans. She is a big napper so she is perfectly happy to snuggle up on a pile of blankets or on her bed and doze off. Suzy is a quick learner and doing very well with house training—she has had a few small accidents but mostly out of excitement and she finished the rest of her business outside. Crate: She is still getting used to her crate—she is okay as long as her humans are within eyesight, but once they leave the room, she usually starts crying. She eventually settles herself down and takes a nap, and is getting better, but still a work in progress which is typical of puppies her age. Color Match: ORANGE - Class Clown (Socially Motivated) Dog Personality — Will work for what they want, but are not as committed to pursuing their own agenda; these are considered moderate-persistence dogs. Adopter Personality — Interested in doing some training and can provide regular interaction and activity. If you think that Suzy might be your perfect match, apply today!June 20, 2024, 10:50 pm
