Story
We got Savannah from the local Humane Society in May 2023.Beautiful, timid, protective. She is SO SHY; slow to warm up to new people. She needs a gentle patient human who can take the time to develop a bond. Savannah is 65 lb. I estimate 2-3 years old. I think she is her full size. She is clumsy like a puppy. When she used to sleep on my bed she would accidently roll off in the night--hilarious, but also startling.Sadly, one of my other dogs started biting Savannah. I think Savannah would do well with other dogs, just not mine. I can give much more detail about this.I wish we could keep her ourselves, but with a toddler, I cannot tolerate any chance of dogs getting out of hand. Since the issues (other dogs fault) and the baby, Savannah has had to be an exclusively outdoor dog. She doesn't want to be. She desperately needs a close human bond. I hate that we've had to push her away like this. She deserves better.w/ cats - curious and timid, not yet aggressive.w/ kids - gentle, tho clumsy.

Story
MEET GIBSON — OUR HANDSOME HERDING BREED RETURNGibson was adopted from ICAS in mid-May after arriving as a stray, but he has returned as an owner surrender after his family realized they weren’t prepared to manage the natural herding behaviors he showed in the home. They shared that he always wanted to play with the grandchildren, but for a family unfamiliar with typical herding-breed tendencies—especially common in border collie mixes—his behavior felt overwhelming.Important Note: Gibson never went into full-on herding mode with the grandchildren, but his adopters made a responsible and caring decision to return him so he can find a home that truly understands his breed.During his stay with them, we learned some wonderful things about Gibson:• Nearly housebroken• Not crate-trained• Extremely lovable• Knows “sit” and “stay”Now Gibson is looking for a home that understands herding breeds and can confidently navigate his playful nips. If you have experience with (or are willing to learn about) herding tendencies and can offer the structure and enrichment he thrives on, come meet this sweet, intelligent boy in person.Adoption Fee: 80All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines and preventatives. Adopters should establish veterinary care after adoption.Meet-and-greets with other dogs and children are always recommended. Please bring a collar and leash, or purchase a set from us for just $15 for safe transport home. The 3-3-3 Rule• 3 days to decompress• 3 weeks to learn routines• 3 months to build trustGibson • A3173903 years oldNeutered male46.60 pounds

Story
Name: Winston Breed: Border Collie Mix Sex: Neutered Male Age: 5 years Weight: ~60lbs History Winston was surrendered by his owner, who no longer had the time to care for him. Health When Winston arrived, he had severe ear infections that were never treated. This resulted in growths in both ears. Luckily, we were able to remove these growths! He is now mostly deaf. Personality Winston is a big sweetheart with a wonderful personality. He loves affection and soaking up attention, whether that means cuddling on the couch or simply sitting beside you. He truly enjoys being around his people and is a little snuggle bug. While he loves to play and go for walks, he’s just as happy relaxing and keeping you company. He makes a fantastic companion. Behavior Winston is house-trained and non-destructive. He knows “sit,” is very smart, and is highly treat-motivated. We are unsure how he does with other dogs and recommend a meet-and-greet if you have a resident dog. We are also unsure how he is with cats. Winston could thrive in a variety of home environments.

Story
This is 11 year old Stella. Her mom adopted her as a puppy from us in 2014. Stella's mom is having some health issues that require her to go to a nursing home. At this point her family is not sure if it will be temporary or long term. Her main concern is Stella, which she considers her 3rd child. Since Stella is an ABLAR alumni, we want to step up for Stella and her mom. WE NEED A FOSTER FOR STELLA ASAP !! She is house, leash and crate trained. Super sweet and loving. Stella weighs approx 50 lbs. She is still very active and loves squeaky toys. She has been the only furbaby but does get along with other dog friendly dogs. Cats unfortunately are not a good mix for Stella. She is also used to a fenced in yard but that would not be necessary since she is leash trained. Please contact 828-612-2951 if you can foster Stella for us. We try to limit our travel time for home visits to a two-hour driving range (about 75 miles) from Morganton, NC.
