Story
Meet Kage, the ultimate good boy who's just so darn cute! This gentleman is a pro at house living, fully potty trained, and a master at walking on a leash and harness. He's a social butterfly, getting along famously with other dogs and loving those backyard playdates with his pals. Kage is a stunning mix of Lab and Border Collie, the perfect blend of intelligence and family-friendliness. He's just the right size, like a mini Lab or a slightly larger Border Collie. When you find two fantastic things that go together like peanut butter and jelly, you celebrate! Kage is that winning combo, and now you can celebrate by making him a cherished member of your family. His temperament is pure gold - sweet as honey with everyone he meets. Now, here's the scoop: Kage is a special needs pup, and he's looking for someone who can be with him about 90 percent of the time. Storms, rain, and loud noises send him into severe panic attacks, and he's been known to chew through walls when anxiety strikes. Crates aren't his jam because of past storm-related trauma. He's also dealing with seizures, so he's on medication for that. Kage would thrive in a local adoption, and he's best as a single dog with no cats or small animals around. He's a wonderful companion for older kids, and he loves nothing more than cuddles and long walks. He's got the whole house training thing down too. His foster mom adores him and has prepared him for his forever family as best she can. Now, the ball is in your court. Remember, when you adopt Kage, you're not just bringing home a good boy; you're giving him the loving, understanding home he deserves. Don't shop, adopt, because Kage's life depends on it! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

Story
These boys are looking for a special home that is looking for two well mannered, 5 year old neutered male mixes who are just the sweetest boys. Meet Casper (44140 black in coloring) and Rico (44141 gray in coloring). They were brought to the shelter when their owner unfortunately lost their home. In their previous home, they lived with a cat and a 2 year old child and got along with them both fine. They are quiet in the kennel and are house trained. They love to cuddle together on their dog beds and enjoy going in the yard or walks with our volunteers. They can be shy at first in the kennel, but once you get them out and interact with them- both wiggle their whole bodies and adore affection. These kind boys would make an excellent addition to a family or single person home. They are in the prime of their lives and are just wanting to find a safe place to rest their heads at night. You can visit these boys during our animal viewing hours below. Kobe's guardian states the reason she has made the difficult decision to rehome him: "Needs a fenced in yard/someone who can be very active with him. Has a lot of energy. Gets bored very easily if inside house too long. He is crate trained and is good one a leash. Unfortunately unable to leave him outside on lead in our yard unattended due to neighborhood dogs who constantly get out. We do not have a fence." Kobe's guardian states the following regarding children:  Kobe lives with children, ages 0-4, so his guardian recommends his living with children, stating "He has not been around children outside of our home.  Mostly avoids my 4 year old as she is very active around him.  He lets my 6 month old pet him with no issues  Gets car sick." Kobe's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Kobe lives with a dog, but hasn't been around dogs outside the home, but his guardian recommends his living with dogs, stating "Has not been around dogs outside of our home.  We have a golden retriever and they get along great." Kobe's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Kobe lives with a cat, but hasn't been around cats outside the home, but his guardian recommends his living with cats, stating "Has not been around cats outside of home.  Lives with cat currently and once they were introduced and acquainted they were fine and don't pay any attention to each other." We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Pepper is 5yo, weighs 50lbs, is spayed, is up to date on her vaccines, and is microchipped.  Pepper "knows basic commands (sit, stay, leave it, come, down).  We use an electronic collar solely for the beeping function as a que for her to come inside or be at attention.  She roams the house freely or is kept in her crate for short periods of time as needed.  She sleeps on a dog bed in the master bedroom or in her crate.  She loves the car, loves watching out the windows, and sniffing everything."   Pepper's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome her: "We have a toddler and are expecting the second.  We saw an uptick of aggressive behavior from Pepper towards our cats starting during my first pregnancy and now we are seeing the behavior escalate further.  We believe that this behavior is jealousy-based as my attention becomes more stretched as we add more members to our family.  Her aggression has never been directed at a member of our family or any other person.  We've tried interventions such as medication (she takes Prozac daily) and training but with another child on the way we aren't able to provide the time, resources, and attention that Pepper needs anymore." Bite Incident:  In July 2020, in Nottingham, MD, Pepper bit another dog outside her yard; the bite broke the skin/scratched the cornea; animal control was not involved; treatment was required to the eye.  Pepper's guardian further explains:  "Pepper escaped from our yard, with me following closely after her.  When I reached her she has approached a smaller dog who was walking with its owner. The smaller dog nipped at Pepper's paws and Pepper responded by barking and biting the other dog.  The other dog had a scratched cornea that required vet attention." Pepper's guardian offers a brief a medical history:  "Currently on Prozac for anxiety.  She is a very anxious dog." Pepper's guardian states the following regarding children:  Pepper lives with children, ages 0-2, so her guardian recommends her living with children, stating...  "Pepper is great with kids.  She generally ignores children unless they engage with her but happily engaged with them once the invitation is extended.  Our toddler loves and gets along with her very well and she is extremely tolerant of his not-so-gentle nature.  She has stayed with families with older school-age children and they have also gotten along very well with her and she's played very happily with them." Pepper's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Although Pepper doesn't live with a dog, her guardian recommends her living with dogs, stating "She is best with calm, passive dogs.  She does not do well with other high-energy dogs". Pepper's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Although Pepper lives with cats, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with cats, stating... "She has lived with cats since we got her when she was 6 months old.  She has a strong chase instinct and prey drive and that's never fully calmed down with our cats.  This is exacerbated as her anxiety worsens." Pepper's guardian describes her as: Very active Barks alot Playful Likes to be touched Affectionate Fearful Protective Always at your side Indoor dog Outdoor dog Nervous House-Trained Crate-Trained Likes men Likes women Separation anxiety Pepper's guardian describes her ideal future home: "Pepper would do best in a fully fenced yard, but she does currently do well in a yard that is not fully fenced in.  An ideal home for her would be an active home that could provide her with regular walks or even hikes/swims, or a house with school age kids." Unfortunately, Luna bonds strongly with people and is not a fan of most dogs. Though with proper introduction, she has played with other dogs. Her ideal home would be with a person or family familiar with this high energy breed mix, who can focus enough time on training and exercise. A fenced yard is a must, and NO city living. Border collies are a working breed, highly intelligent and need stimulation and direction.Luna is outgoing, curious, energetic and she would make an excellent companion for an active adopter. She loves playing fetch and going on long walks. A forever home with plenty of room to run would be ideal for this girl on the go. She is smart and well trained beyond the basic level. She knows the commands:  leave it, sit, down, stay, off, let go, go to your bed, out of the kitchen and kennel up. Luna is also house broken and kennel trained, although she has not used a kennel in some time. There are no issues when she has free roam of the house. She will alert bark when someone is outside or at the door, and she is good with kids, but she needs to control her excitement at times and may knock any little ones down. Luna loves her people and will sit or lay right next to you whenever you are and, if you allow her, she will rest her head on your lap for a good pet and belly rub. Luna is very treat focused.Luna is just a great, fun-loving lady who can’t wait for you to throw that ball! With her super friendly nature, she will make a perfect partner on all of your adventures!Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet. Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. I love the outdoors and getting exercise, but am calm indoors when I'm finished having my fun!  I had a litter of pups a while back but now I am ready for some TLC and a new home! Besides being a water lover, I am friendly and smart, and, when tested with the kennel cat, I didn't mind him. Since I am not a barker, I probably could live in an apartment as long as I enjoy the exercise I need daily.  I am medium energy and likes to jump, so would be best in a home with older children or children who are used to exuberant play! Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. Update from her foster mom: She is a great pup & will make a loyal companion. She is my shadow in the house! She is very affectionate, curious, sweet & playful. LOVES playing with our other dogs.LOVES toys & chew bones. She is very food motivated & smart- & thus easy to train. Still working on house training (that is more our fault than hers) but getting better, comes when called, sits on command, knows “crate” (& is very good in her crate). Alrighty, who is ready for some adventure? This gorgeous girl for sure! Meet Summer! She is a young mixed breed, maybe 12 months, and currently about 25-30 lbs. She has gorgeous med. hair with brindle coloring, a nubby tail, and beautiful brown eyes! Her vet records say Australian Shepherd mix. She certainly has the body size, energy, and friendly disposition. She really warms up to all people and dogs nicely. She would love hikes, maybe agility, or maybe even herding classes? How ever you choose to engage with Summer, I’m sure she will excel, she is motivated to please you! We prefer to place her in a home with a securely enclosed back yard, no toddlers, or cats. (Herding children is not looked upon favorably. 😉) If you are interested in adopting Summer who is already microchipped, spayed, tested, crate-trained, and on preventions, just email me to request an adoption application at : marysmutts05@gmail.com.

Story
Are you in search of a one-of-a-kind serial kisser? Well, look no further, because I, Mandy, am the dog you've been waiting for! I come with a mix of awesomeness and a charming personality that's sure to steal your heart. I can be delightfully laid-back, enjoying those calm moments, or I can transform into a bouncing ball of joy when the mood strikes. Walks and jogs? Count me in, especially if you're by my side. But here's the thing-I love playing with other dogs so much that I often choose their company over toys. Let's talk sunbathing. If your couch has that perfect spot for catching rays, you can bet I'll be there, soaking it all in. I'm a big fan of lounging, whether it's under tables, during dinner time, while you're working at your desk, or even when you're cuddled up in bed. I'm all about being close to my people, and if you choose to adopt me, I'll be all about you! I'm a sociable girl, getting along well with other dogs and kids (especially with submissive/non-dominant dogs). My crate training and potty training with a doggy door are top-notch. I'm a pro at commands like going to my crate and sitting patiently. Now, about my diet-here's the deal: I have EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency), which means my pancreas doesn't produce the enzymes I need to digest food properly. Thanks to some attentive rescuers and veterinary care, we've got it all figured out. I'll need a specific diet and a pancreatic enzyme replacement supplement to keep me feeling great. Think of it as a special appetizer and entree at every meal. EPI won't slow me down, and I'm ready to trade serial kisses for a loving forever home day in and day out. So, how about it? Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)
