Story
Meet Chocolate - every bit as sweet as her name suggests! Chocolate came into our care as a stray after being found wandering in the city of Fillmore. The finders were able to lure her into their car, and upon arrival at the shelter, she calmly hopped out and walked right up to our Animal Care staff. Rather than bolting, she happily accepted a leash and headed inside. Once in the shelter, she was easy to vaccinate and quickly showed us her affectionate side by actively seeking attention from staff even though vaccines are often stressful! Our volunteers have had the opportunity to spend time with Chocolate and have wonderful things to say about her. She has been designated as an `easy` dog, meaning any of our dog-walking volunteers can take her out. They report that she is easy to leash, does not jump up, and pays little attention to surrounding dogs while out and about. She walks nicely on leash with minimal pulling and appears to know several commands, including `sit,` `down,` and `paw.`We did an on-leash introduction of Chocolate to our large dog playgroups. She approached a large male Pit Bull mix with a rapid wagging tail, soft body language, playful bouncing, and several play bows. She did great!Chocolate has been an absolute love. We would love to see this special girl find a placement where she can continue to receive the care she needs as a sweet senior while enjoying all the comforts of a home instead of the shelter.

Say hi to Yeti the adorable snowman. Yeti’s goofy energy is contagious and he always gives us a reason to smile. His dream day is one where he gets to chase a ball, pop around in the kiddie pool, and hang out with (read: on top of) his favorite human. He’s been doing well meeting new people around the shelter, especially when treats are involved! He likely would prefer a home as the only pet, but has been showing consistent progress in disengaging when going by dogs in the kennels or on walks. Story
Claudie  is about 3 years old med size dog. She weighs about 30-35 lbs, she is a boxer/lab mix. She was found with her mom and her sibling abundant in the backyard of the house when the owner moved out. Her leg was injured really bad and we were told by the vet we might have to amputate the leg. After few treatments and Xrays, vet saw improvement and amputation didn't take place. She is recovered now, walking and running but she does limp and holds  her leg up. She will need some one who is patient with her and willing to take time to walk & hike with her. It was a miracle that she can even use that leg and it’s not amputated.  She is a sweet puppy, friendly with people and other dogs. She is vaccinated , spayed and will be microchipped before adoption. August 21, 2026, 11:14 pm

Story
Hi, I’m Wylie! 🐾 I’m a 1.5-year-old Pittie mix weighing about 52 pounds, and I’ve been told my adorable underbite and goofy smile are pretty hard to resist. I’m a happy guy who loves making people laugh and smile. I’m super smart, fully potty trained, and I know all my basic commands. I love learning new things, and I recently figured out how to bring the ball back during fetch—I’m pretty proud of myself for that one! I also LOVE water. If you’re watering the lawn, you can count me in. Helping with the hose is one of my favorite jobs, even if I sometimes get a little distracted playing in the spray. Life hasn’t always been easy for me. I spent nine long months in the shelter waiting for someone to notice me. During that time, I even suffered some dog bite wounds, which was scary and painful. Because of my experiences, I’d do best as your one and only pet. Even though I had a rough time, I never stopped loving people. The volunteers at the shelter adored me, and I was one of their favorites. They all knew what a special boy I am. Sadly, I ended up on the euthanasia list simply because I had been there too long. Thankfully, a rescue stepped in and saved my life. I thought my luck had finally changed when I went to a foster home, but then my foster’s father unexpectedly passed away, and she had to move back home and couldn’t keep me. Since then, I’ve been staying in boarding for about two months, patiently waiting for my forever family to find me. I’m neutered, vaccinated, and more than ready to start my next chapter. What I want most is a family of my own—a place where I can finally settle in, be loved, and never have to wonder where I’ll sleep tomorrow. I’ve been waiting a long time for someone to choose me. Maybe that someone is you. I promise to repay you with endless smiles, loyal companionship, plenty of laughs, and all the help you could ever need watering the lawn. I’ll entertain myself chasing my tail when you are busy, and I’ll even bring you a ball back when you throw it! I just need someone to please, give me a chance and I’ll be the goodest boy 😇 Love, Wylie ❤️

Sweet, silly, playful AND chill — meet Lizzie! 💗 Lizzie is an approximately 5-year-old pittie who is truly the best of both worlds. She loves playing with her toys, having fun, and soaking up the sunshine, but she’s equally happy to settle down, relax, and cuddle with her people. She has that wonderful balance of playful when you want to have fun and calm when it’s time to just hang out. Lizzie is good with dogs and has been calm and curious around cats. She would love a home where she can be part of the family and finally have the stability and love she deserves. Lizzie was found as a stray and later brought to a South LA shelter, where she was placed on the euthanasia list. Thankfully, our team stepped in and gave this sweet girl a second chance. Now she’s spayed, fully vaccinated, and ready to go home. Lizzie is silly enough to keep you smiling, playful enough to join you for adventures, and relaxed enough to be the perfect couch companion. 🥰 Her hardest days are behind her. Now she just needs someone to show her what forever feels like. ❤️

Story
Zelda is a stunning 1-year-old, 85-pound XL Bully with a rare merle coat and an even more beautiful personality. She is looking for a loving forever home with someone who is familiar with her breed and committed to continuing her training and socialization. Zelda absolutely loves people. She is affectionate, happy, eager to please, and greets everyone with kisses, a wiggly butt, and her famous giant tail that never seems to stop wagging. Everyone who meets her falls in love with her sweet nature. Her rescue story is one we'll never forget. Zelda was found abandoned in the desert, scared and unsure of people. For a week, we returned every day to feed her and slowly earn her trust. When it came time to rescue her, our trapper set a humane trap. Within five minutes, Zelda walked right inside. As soon as we opened the door, she calmly walked out, wagging her huge tail, giving kisses, and gently taking treats from our hands. It was as if she knew she was finally safe. Sadly, no one ever came looking for Zelda. She wasn't microchipped, and we can only assume she was abandoned instead of being taken to a shelter. Since coming into our rescue, she has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and is now fully vetted and ready to begin her new life with a family who will never let her down again. Zelda has been introduced to two large male Bullies and did wonderfully, greeting them with nonstop tail wags and friendly body language. She is not a good fit for a home with cats and would do best in a home without small pets. Because of her size and strength, she will do best with an experienced owner who understands the XL Bully breed. XL Bullies are known for being loyal, affectionate, and devoted companions. With consistent training, regular exercise, and continued socialization, they make wonderful family members. Zelda is still young and eager to learn. She can be strong on leash, but she is incredibly people-oriented and truly wants to please her person. She quickly became a favorite at our veterinary clinic during her vaccination and spay appointments. The staff couldn't stop admiring her unique beauty and friendly personality, and everyone wanted to come over to pet her. The only thing dangerous about Zelda is that giant tail that wags at the speed of light—so watch your knees! To request an adoption application, please email alphadogpetrescue@yahoo.com.
