Story
Goose is a 2 year old, 70 lb neutered male pit bull /boxer mix. He is extremely affectionate, smart, and cuddly. He enjoys playing, lounging, and snuggling. He is loyal and protective to his people. He has resource guarding behaviors (food, toys, and sometimes space). He has never bitten, but has snapped (at people and other dogs) when he feels his resources are being threatened.Because of this, he needs:✔️ Adult-only home (no children) ✔️ Experienced dog owner✔️ Calm, structured environment ✔️ Someone willing to spend the time to work with him.Might be best as an only dog. This is not a beginner dog—but in the right home, he has so much potential to be a loyal, loving companion.

Story
Found strutting through a Winn-Dixie parking lot like he owned the place, Bean Pie was adopted and sadly recently returned due to his adopter facing multiple upcoming surgeries and no longer being able to keep up with this quirky little character. Now he’s a sturdy 45 lbs of attitude, adventure, and affection all rolled into one compact pup. He’s part lizard hunter, part cuddle bug—and 100% entertaining. Bean Pie loves car rides, gnawing on his favorite bone, and soaking up affection. He has big feelings about trucks (barking is his preferred language), and while he enjoys outings, leash manners are still a work in progress. He’s used to having free roam of the house and usually naps when left alone. At night, he settles into his bed or the coziest corner he can find. Just keep an eye on the door—this clever boy won’t miss an open opportunity. Bean Pie is dog-selective and would do best as your one-and-only or with a dog his own size. No small animals or kids, please—he can get mouthy when overexcited, so a calm, experienced adult home is where he’ll thrive.Bean Pie does have a partial cruciate ligament tear, which means he may occasionally limp if he overdoes it on activity. In a home environment, this may be very manageable with conservative care—taking things easy, limiting high-impact activity, and using over-the-counter pain management as needed. That said, we want what’s best for him long-term. We are happy to send Bean Pie home as a foster-to-adopt, and if surgery ultimately becomes necessary, H.A.L.O. would cover the cost, as long as the adopter is willing to handle the post-surgery recovery and care.If you’re looking for a big personality in a compact body and don’t mind helping him take life a little slower, Bean Pie might be your perfect slice. 🐾🍰Requirements: Martingale Collar; Dog Selective; Calm Children 16+; Foster-To-Adopt (Knee Injury)All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Our adoption fee helps cover this cost.

Story
Hey! I’m Brady — part Shepherd, part Boxer, and 100% eager to win your heart. Before I came to HALO, I spent time at another shelter where life was tough. We only got outside for a short time once a day, and since I’m house trained, I’d get anxious waiting, worried I’d mess up my kennel. I tried so hard to be good — I’m the kind of dog who overthinks how to make you happy.Even in that stressful place, I lit up when someone came to see me — like they came just for me. I loved going for walks with volunteers and had the best time on park trips, taking in all the new sights and smells. I even liked choosing my own toy from the box! I did well in playgroups — while I wasn’t the wild type, I kept up with the best of ’em and took breaks when things got too rowdy. I was always friendly with both men and women, and even rode calmly in the car with a young couple once, just taking it all in.My first home before the shelter wasn’t very kind either. There was yelling and rough handling, so I really value kind, gentle people. If you see the best in me, I will always see the best in you!Recently, I spent some time in a home again and showed that while I have a lot of love to give, I can be a bit too interested in cats — I tend to chase and corner them, so I’d be happiest in a cat-free home. I can also be a little mouthy when I get excited, so I’d do best with kids around 8 or older who can handle my playful energy.I’m a sweet, loyal guy who just wants to love and be loved. Take some time to meet me, and I promise you’ll be head over heels!Requirements: Martingale Collar; Children 8yrs+ (due to mouthiness)All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Ricotta is still waiting for her forever home… and we truly can’t believe this adorable little girl hasn’t been scooped up yet. 🧀🐾 Ricotta is about 10 weeks old and part of our famous “Cheese Litter.” We were told the puppies are coonhound/boxer mixes, but at the end of the day, we just know she’s 100% cute. She’s playful, goofy, cuddly, and everything you’d want in a puppy. Ricotta loves attention, loves to play, and is soaking up every bit of puppyhood while she waits for a family to call her own. She’s up to date on age-appropriate vaccines and ready to head home with her forever family. Someone come grab this little cheese before she melts all our hearts completely. 🧀💕

🤎 BESSIE 🤎 Bessie almost lost her life because people thought something was wrong with her. When she entered the shelter, she was showing neurological symptoms and was diagnosed with ataxia and a concerning heart murmur that staff believed would make surgery unsafe and lead to lifelong medical issues. But that wasn’t the real story. What no one realized at first was that Bessie had likely been beaten before arriving at the shelter, and the trauma she experienced caused temporary neurological symptoms. Once she was safe, loved, and properly evaluated, it became clear that Bessie was going to be just fine. ❤️ Since entering rescue care, Bessie has been: ✔️ Spayed ✔️ Microchipped ✔️ Fully vaccinated ✔️ Cleared and ready for adoption And now her true personality is shining through. Bessie is a total cuddle bug who LOVES her people. She adores dog friends, enjoys playing, and has the goofy, silly personality boxer lovers know and adore. She’s medium energy — happy to play, happy to snuggle, and always entertaining with her funny antics. 😂 Bessie does have some reactivity toward squirrels and fast-moving outdoor distractions, so she wears a basket muzzle on walks to help manage that safely and successfully. She walks well with it, and it allows people to confidently take her out without worrying about reactions. Because of this, Bessie would do best with: ✨ An experienced dog handler ✨ Someone familiar with boxer breeds ✨ A structured, loving home that understands reactive dogs And in return? You’ll get an incredibly loving, loyal, hilarious best friend. Bessie survived trauma, heartbreak, and being misunderstood. Now she’s ready for the forever home she always deserved. 🐾 Bessy is a 2 or 3 year old Boxer mix. Her adoption fee is waived with $100 credit towards helping her get settled in her new home! Her adoption application can be found at www.mysaltydog.com

Story
Root Beer is a 6-year-old dog who has been with our family since she was 10 weeks old. This has been an incredibly difficult decision for us, but after a serious incident in our home involving another pet, we have come to the conclusion that she needs to be in a different environment where she can truly succeed and everyone can remain safe. She is deeply loved, highly intelligent, agile, and very loyal to her people. Root Beer thrives with structure, attention, and clear boundaries. She would do best as the only pet in the home and in an environment that is calm, stable, and experienced with strong dogs. With a young child in the home and ongoing tension between the animals, the stress in our household has become too high to safely manage long term. We are trying to make the most responsible choice possible for both Root Beer and our family. Our biggest priority is finding her a safe, committed home where she can have the individual attention and environment she needs to thrive.

Story
Hi there, I’m Gatsby! Some dogs just have that special spark—and I’ve been told I’ve got it. I’m three years old, weigh about 40 pounds, and am the perfect size for cuddles on the couch or adventures outside. I’m the kind of pup who happily makes friends with other dogs, leans in for snuggles, and wins people over with my gentle heart and soulful eyes.I do have something unique about me: I have a condition called megaesophagus. That might sound big and scary, but really it just means I eat sitting upright in my special Bailey Chair so gravity can do the work for me. After a few minutes of relaxing in my chair post-meal, I’m ready to get back to being the playful, affectionate guy I am.I don’t think of it as a limitation—it’s just part of my routine. And honestly, it’s a small trade for all the love, loyalty, and joy I’ll bring into your life.Right now, I’m living in a foster home where I’m loved and cared for while I wait for my forever family. If you think that could be you, please fill out an adoption application on our website and call the Front Office to learn more about how to make me a permanent part of your life.I promise, once you meet me, you’ll see what makes me so special. I’m ready when you are.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Megaesophagus (Eats in a special upright chair)All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Meet Lola – Your One-and-Only! 🐾After two years in the shelter system, this sweet girl is more than ready to find her forever home—and trust us, she’s worth the wait. Lola has had the chance to spend time in a foster home, and we’ve learned that in a calm, stable environment, she truly thrives.Lola is affectionate, loyal, and just the right amount of sassy. She adores pig ears, chew bones, and lounging in her favorite sunny spots. She’s not a fan of crates or being confined to small spaces, but she’s proven to be totally trustworthy when left to free-roam the house. Give her a cozy couch and a good chew, and she’s set for the afternoon. She can be a bit shy with new people—especially strangers in uniforms (maintenance workers, we’re looking at you)—but once she feels safe (a quick walk together helps her bond quickly!), she blossoms into a goofy, loving companion who wants to be wherever you are.Lola would do best as the only pet in the home—she’s not interested in sharing her people, thank you very much. But that just means more love, cuddles, and loyalty for you.If you’re looking for a one-on-one bond with a dog who will be your ride-or-die bestie, Lola’s your girl. 💛 Meet her and see what two years of waiting has built—pure, patient love just waiting to come home.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Children 10+; ShyAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Story
Hello there! My name is Gandolf, and while my face might be frosted like a wise old wizard, my heart is as youthful and vibrant as ever. I’m a charming 12-year-old pit mix with a magical ability to make you smile every single day. My journey hasn’t been easy—after being abandoned by my previous owner, I’ve spent the last two years and 10 months at the shelter. They’ve taken wonderful care of me, but what I truly long for is a forever home where I can live out my golden years with someone who understands and cherishes me. I’m a people-lover through and through. There’s nothing I enjoy more than cuddling up close to my favorite humans, basking in the warmth of their love. I’m an excellent companion for car rides (I ride like a pro!) and a devoted fan of Nylabones—those are my absolute favorite chew toys. And did I mention I know how to shake paws? Yep, I’ll charm you with my wizardly tricks.Even though I’m a bit older, I still have moments of youthful energy—get ready for some joyful zoomies when I’m feeling playful! Of course, I also know how to relax and will happily spend quiet moments by your side.I do come with some quirks (don’t we all?). I have anxiety, so I can get nervous when left alone. I also need time and patience in new situations—I’m not a fan of being rushed or pushed into things I’m unsure about. But don’t worry—with a little understanding and a slow approach, I’ll warm up and show you just how deeply I can love.Because of my history, I’ve been labeled a bit of a “misfit,” and I need to be the only pet in the home. No other dogs or cats, please—but trust me, I have more than enough love to give. One thing you should know is that I’m on thyroid medication for life. The good news? It’s affordable, my levels are perfectly managed, and I feel great! If you’re not ready to adopt, I’m also available for foster—I just don’t want to spend the rest of my life in a shelter. I have so much love to give, and I’m ready to share it with someone special. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion with a quirky, wise soul, I’m your guy. Let’s make the rest of my life a magical adventure—together.Love, Gandolf Requirements: Martingale Collar; Separation Anxiety; Thyroid Meds; MisfitAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home.
