Story
Two sides, one adorable puppy! ✨Just like her namesake, Gemini is full of possibilities. At only 3 months old, she's still discovering who she's meant to be, which means you get to help write the story! Whether she grows into an adventurous hiking buddy, a couch cuddle expert, or the class valedictorian at puppy school, the future is wide open.Gemini's dad is a purebred Great Dane, while her mom, Nova, is our lovable mystery mix (we're guessing Boxer and Dachshund, but your guess is as good as ours!). One thing we do know? She'll be one-of-a-kind.Puppies may be tiny now, but they're a big commitment. House training, crate training, socialization, basic manners, and lots of positive experiences all take time and consistency. The effort you put in during these early months helps shape the confident, well-mannered adult dog she'll become. If you're ready to invest in a lifetime best friend, Gemini is ready to meet you.Requirements: Martingale CollarAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Story
Hi! I'm Nova, and my life story sounds a little made up—but I promise it's true.I started out as a stray puppy in Okeechobee before finding a family of my own. Then, despite everyone being absolutely certain it couldn't happen, I somehow ended up becoming a mom after befriending the family's very unfixed Great Dane. Apparently nobody informed us that size differences were supposed to matter. Oops. After raising my puppies like a champ, my family found themselves overwhelmed with a move and all the responsibilities that come with a surprise litter, so they made the difficult decision to bring us to H.A.L.O. so we could find loving homes. Now it's my turn.If you're looking for the friendliest dog on the planet, I would like to submit my application. I love people, dogs, treats, walks, playtime, and pretty much every living creature I meet. I'm housebroken, have wonderful manners in the home, and when my people leave, I patiently wait for them to come back. If left alone for a very long time, I might have an accident, but I truly do my best to hold it.My favorite hobby is pretending I'm a lap dog. Am I slightly too big for that job description? Maybe. Has that ever stopped me? Absolutely not.I'm young, happy, affectionate, and ready to trade my surprise-motherhood era for a lifetime of belly rubs, adventures, and a family to call my own. Come meet me—you'll see why everyone falls in love with Nova.Requirments: Martingale CollarAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Story
Found strutting through a Winn-Dixie parking lot like he owned the place, Bean Pie was adopted and sadly recently returned due to his adopter facing multiple upcoming surgeries and no longer being able to keep up with this quirky little character. Now he’s a sturdy 45 lbs of attitude, adventure, and affection all rolled into one compact pup. He’s part lizard hunter, part cuddle bug—and 100% entertaining. Bean Pie loves car rides, gnawing on his favorite bone, and soaking up affection. He has big feelings about trucks (barking is his preferred language), and while he enjoys outings, leash manners are still a work in progress. He’s used to having free roam of the house and usually naps when left alone. At night, he settles into his bed or the coziest corner he can find. Just keep an eye on the door—this clever boy won’t miss an open opportunity. Bean Pie is dog-selective and would do best as your one-and-only or with a dog his own size. No small animals or kids, please—he can get mouthy when overexcited, so a calm, experienced adult home is where he’ll thrive.Bean Pie does have a partial cruciate ligament tear, which means he may occasionally limp if he overdoes it on activity. In a home environment, this may be very manageable with conservative care—taking things easy, limiting high-impact activity, and using over-the-counter pain management as needed. That said, we want what’s best for him long-term. We are happy to send Bean Pie home as a foster-to-adopt, and if surgery ultimately becomes necessary, H.A.L.O. would cover the cost, as long as the adopter is willing to handle the post-surgery recovery and care.If you’re looking for a big personality in a compact body and don’t mind helping him take life a little slower, Bean Pie might be your perfect slice. 🐾🍰Requirements: Martingale Collar; Dog Selective; Calm Children 16+; Foster-To-Adopt (Knee Injury)All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Story
Hey! I’m Brady — part Shepherd, part Boxer, and 100% eager to win your heart. Before I came to HALO, I spent time at another shelter where life was tough. We only got outside for a short time once a day, and since I’m house trained, I’d get anxious waiting, worried I’d mess up my kennel. I tried so hard to be good — I’m the kind of dog who overthinks how to make you happy.Even in that stressful place, I lit up when someone came to see me — like they came just for me. I loved going for walks with volunteers and had the best time on park trips, taking in all the new sights and smells. I even liked choosing my own toy from the box! I did well in playgroups — while I wasn’t the wild type, I kept up with the best of ’em and took breaks when things got too rowdy. I was always friendly with both men and women, and even rode calmly in the car with a young couple once, just taking it all in.My first home before the shelter wasn’t very kind either. There was yelling and rough handling, so I really value kind, gentle people. If you see the best in me, I will always see the best in you!Recently, I spent some time in a home again and showed that while I have a lot of love to give, I can be a bit too interested in cats — I tend to chase and corner them, so I’d be happiest in a cat-free home. I can also be a little mouthy when I get excited, so I’d do best with kids around 8 or older who can handle my playful energy.I’m a sweet, loyal guy who just wants to love and be loved. Take some time to meet me, and I promise you’ll be head over heels!Requirements: Martingale Collar; Children 8yrs+ (due to mouthiness)All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Story
🤎 BESSIE 🤎 Bessie almost lost her life because people thought something was wrong with her. When she entered the shelter, she was showing neurological symptoms and was diagnosed with ataxia and a concerning heart murmur that staff believed would make surgery unsafe and lead to lifelong medical issues. But that wasn’t the real story. What no one realized at first was that Bessie had likely been beaten before arriving at the shelter, and the trauma she experienced caused temporary neurological symptoms. Once she was safe, loved, and properly evaluated, it became clear that Bessie was going to be just fine. ❤️ Since entering rescue care, Bessie has been: ✔️ Spayed ✔️ Microchipped ✔️ Fully vaccinated ✔️ Cleared and ready for adoption And now her true personality is shining through. Bessie is a total cuddle bug who LOVES her people. She adores dog friends, enjoys playing, and has the goofy, silly personality boxer lovers know and adore. She’s medium energy — happy to play, happy to snuggle, and always entertaining with her funny antics. 😂 Bessie does have some reactivity toward squirrels and fast-moving outdoor distractions, so she wears a basket muzzle on walks to help manage that safely and successfully. She walks well with it, and it allows people to confidently take her out without worrying about reactions. Because of this, Bessie would do best with: ✨ An experienced dog handler ✨ Someone familiar with boxer breeds ✨ A structured, loving home that understands reactive dogs And in return? You’ll get an incredibly loving, loyal, hilarious best friend. Bessie survived trauma, heartbreak, and being misunderstood. Now she’s ready for the forever home she always deserved. 🐾 Bessy is a 2 or 3 year old Boxer mix. Her adoption fee is waived with $100 credit towards helping her get settled in her new home! Her adoption application can be found at www.mysaltydog.com

Story
Hello there! My name is Gandolf, and while my face might be frosted like a wise old wizard, my heart is as youthful and vibrant as ever. I’m a charming 12-year-old pit mix with a magical ability to make you smile every single day. My journey hasn’t been easy—after being abandoned by my previous owner, I’ve spent the last two years and 10 months at the shelter. They’ve taken wonderful care of me, but what I truly long for is a forever home where I can live out my golden years with someone who understands and cherishes me. I’m a people-lover through and through. There’s nothing I enjoy more than cuddling up close to my favorite humans, basking in the warmth of their love. I’m an excellent companion for car rides (I ride like a pro!) and a devoted fan of Nylabones—those are my absolute favorite chew toys. And did I mention I know how to shake paws? Yep, I’ll charm you with my wizardly tricks.Even though I’m a bit older, I still have moments of youthful energy—get ready for some joyful zoomies when I’m feeling playful! Of course, I also know how to relax and will happily spend quiet moments by your side.I do come with some quirks (don’t we all?). I have anxiety, so I can get nervous when left alone. I also need time and patience in new situations—I’m not a fan of being rushed or pushed into things I’m unsure about. But don’t worry—with a little understanding and a slow approach, I’ll warm up and show you just how deeply I can love.Because of my history, I’ve been labeled a bit of a “misfit,” and I need to be the only pet in the home. No other dogs or cats, please—but trust me, I have more than enough love to give. One thing you should know is that I’m on thyroid medication for life. The good news? It’s affordable, my levels are perfectly managed, and I feel great! If you’re not ready to adopt, I’m also available for foster—I just don’t want to spend the rest of my life in a shelter. I have so much love to give, and I’m ready to share it with someone special. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion with a quirky, wise soul, I’m your guy. Let’s make the rest of my life a magical adventure—together.Love, Gandolf Requirements: Martingale Collar; Separation Anxiety; Thyroid Meds; MisfitAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. 🐾 Hi… I’m Happy! 🐾Yep, that’s really my name — and everyone says it fits me perfectly. I’m a 9-year-old pitbull with a handsome charcoal grey coat and a few dapper tan accents that make me look extra distinguished. I’m basically a big, smooshy marshmallow.I arrived as a stray, so my past is a bit of a mystery. What I do know is that I’m ready for a soft couch, kind humans, and lots of love. You might notice my adorable little wobbly walk — it gives me a bit of extra character and makes people smile wherever I go. The vet took some X-rays and let us know I have LS Disease and Hip Dysplasia, which means my joints need a little help staying comfortable. With medication and a cozy place to relax, though, I’m doing just fine. Honestly, I’m not training for a marathon anyway — I’m much more of a couch potato. My favorite things include:• Leaning into people for pets• Showing off my smooshy, slobbery cheeks• Napping like a professional• Being told I’m a good boy (which I am, obviously)The humans here say I have excellent manners—and my foster home agrees! Since settling into foster care, I’ve had zero accidents in the house (yep, I’m a total gentleman -- I go straight to the doggy door whenever I need to do my business), and I’ve blended in seamlessly with a home that has several other dogs and even a young teenager. I’ve proven myself to be easygoing, respectful, and just happy to be part of the family.I’ve done well meeting other dogs and even cats, and I’m such a laid-back guy that I’d likely do great with kids too — as long as they remember I’m a gentleman with creaky hips and not a jungle gym.Right now I’m just hoping for a soft place to land. I’m currently living it up in my foster home, staying comfy and soaking up love while I wait for my perfect match. If you’ve got a cozy couch, a little patience for an older gentleman, and room in your heart for a very mushy, very happy dog, I’m definitely your guy. Please call the shelter’s Front Office to speak with them about next steps if you’d like to give me a chance! Requirements: Martingale Collar; Medication for Hip Dysplasia/LS DiseaseAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Story
Meet Khaleesi & Drogo — a bonded duo with enough love, personality, and tail wags to fill an entire kingdom. 👑❤️Khaleesi, a 4.5-year-old pittie princess, and Drogo, her almost 1-year-old sidekick, recently found themselves back at the shelter due to a child in their home developing allergies. While they can be adopted separately, these two clearly adore one another, and we know they would thrive most if they could stay together.Khaleesi is the calm, cuddly queen of the pair. She’s housebroken, incredibly sweet, and always ready to show off her adorable smile for treats or a Kong toy. She loves being close to her people and has done well with dogs and kids. While she wasn’t especially trustworthy during introductions with shelter cats, her previous family reports that she has successfully lived with cats before. Then there’s Drogo — the goofy young warrior who is basically “puppy mode” 24/7. He’s smart, affectionate, and absolutely obsessed with stuffed animals and attention from his humans. He also gets along well with dogs and kids, but we do feel cats would likely not be a good fit for him. If adopted together, we’d recommend a cat-free home for the pair.Together, they balance each other beautifully — Khaleesi brings the snuggles and steady companionship, while Drogo keeps life fun, playful, and full of laughter. Watching them together makes it easy to see just how much comfort and happiness they bring one another.Even better, a generous sponsor has fully covered their adoption fees if they are adopted together! If adopted separately, each dog's adoption fee is $200. If you've got room in your heart and home for two best friends who truly belong together, Khaleesi and Drogo are ready to rule your couch — and your heart.Requirements: Martingale Collar; Adoption fees sponsored if adopted together, or separately for $200 eachAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home.
