Story
Today's adoptable dogs are a bonded pair, Luke and Lizzie! Luke and Lizzie are boxers. Luke and Lizzie's vet estimated year of birth is 2011.  They came to us after their previous owner encountered medical issues that left her unable to continue to care for them. They are both a bit timid at first which is to be expected after suddenly having to leave the home they came to know and love. Although they seem reserved, they both are very sweet and will make some lucky person very loyal companions. Lizzie is the larger of the two. Due to their situation and their obvious bond to each other, we are only adopting these two to a home together. They are house trained and love laying in their crate together, however they don't require a crate when left alone. Please don't feel sad for them just because they seem to have sad looks in their eyes. They are happy to know they will always have each other, and will be blessed with a new perfect forever home to call their own. If you are interested in adopting Luke and Lizzie, please complete our online application here: https://www.ruffloverescue.com/adoption ~~ Adoption donation $250 together. All vetting is up to date. Microchipped and altered. Also on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. Visit www.ruffloverescue.com to make this pup a member of your familyApril 18, 2024, 12:07 pm

Story
Oakvale is a beautiful, long-legged boy who loves to prance around in the play yard like a deer! He is exceptionally smart and is eager to please, which makes him fairly easy to train. This stoic boy takes treats gently and enjoys to stop and sniff on his walks. He could use a bit of leash training, but we think he'd learn quickly since he's so treat motivated. Oakvale very much enjoys playing fetch, especially when you trade a ball for the one he has! Oakvale went to short term foster and proved to be awfully affectionate/cuddly and housetrained. He did show some signs of separation anxiety in short-term foster, but he did not try to break out of the crate! With time, we think he'd settle nicely. Oakvale recently went on a Dog Day Out and here's what his DDO buddy had to say! "I took Oakvale on a Dog's Day Out today! Oakvale started out a little timid but he is now napping on the couch with my husband. Oakvale got to meet my dad and stepmom downtown and then had so much fun playing fetch at Sweetwater Court Private Dog Playground and Gardens! We had lunch at Freddy's and he enjoyed a pup cup. Oakvale went for a walk in our neighborhood and was well-behaved in our house while our dogs were resting in their crates. This boy has been searching for a home for almost 3 months and he is more than ready to be a sweet companion. - Affectionate (but may take a little time to warm up to you) - Pretty good walker-he pulled a little when we first got him out but overall not bad. Likes to stop and sniff. - Loves to fetch! When he brings the ball back sometimes he makes a funny snort - Good car rider-at times slightly hesitant about jumping in but he gets in on his own! Much of the time in the car with us he lay down and napped. - He was initially interested when we ate our lunch in the car but was polite and didn't bother us. - He loves to sit for a treat! - Oakvale is a very handsome fellow and has cute speckled ears!" Oakvale has shown that he can be dog selective. He gets nervous when crowded by dogs (so he prefers no doggie day care) or when a dog is reactive to him. He'd do best with a more laid back, submissive, and/or playful dog. As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines. To meet your future pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!

Story
Tony Tiger is a very special boy. When he first came to the shelter, he was terrified. Very untrusting and very unsure. With the hard work of staff and volunteers, Tony Tiger has truly blossomed into a loving, fun, gentle dog. Though he can still show some timidity in his kennel, he is completely different once out and about! When Tony Tiger leaves his kennel, he is always excited to go play in the yard. He may initially jump up, but is easily redirected and always settles. He enjoys playing a good game of fetch and soliciting attention from his human. It'd be easy to train Tony as he is motivated by treats, toys, and praise! You can sometimes find Tony Tiger resting his sweet head in the lap of volunteers and staff. On a Dog Day Out, Tony Tiger did beautifully in public. Though he initially pulls on leash, he settles into a nice pace making it easy to walk him through a store or restaurant. He does pull for a good sniff, though! Tony surprised us by being eager to meet new people! He was very sweet and gentle when greeting people and making new friends. We suspect he'd make a wonderful coffee shop companion or brewery buddy! Tony Tiger is an overall quiet boy who doesn't protest to much. On his Dog Day Out, he did not bark at strangers or other dogs. He also rode beautifully in the car, simply enjoying the ride and looking forward to his next destination. Tony Tiger is listed as Adult-Only Home Preferred due to how truly scared he was when first coming to the shelter. He has not shown any aggression towards children; we simply want him to be able to unwind in a more quiet home since his transition to the shelter was initially so difficult for him. As stated above, Tony Tiger has since come out of his shell and proven what a sweet, playful guy he is. Though he has not been tested with another dog, he has had positive interactions with other dogs through a fence. As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs in for a meet and greet to be sure it's a good match. When bringing resident dogs to the shelter, please be sure to bring proof of Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines. To meet our special boy Tony Tiger, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesdays! If interested in fostering this handsome boy, reach out to Kendelle at kfederico@guilfordcountync.gov.

Story
Sam is a energetic big boy that thinks he’s a lap dog. He’s never met a stranger and his bark is certainly bigger than his bite. He’s a lover buy who’s never bitten anyone, we have another dog and cat which he’s great with. He’s been around numerous children and adults with zero problems. He’d do best with a large fenced are to run and someone who’s energetic, he LOVES walks, but will pull because he’s so excited. He sleeps in a crate at night and lives for treats and his toys.
