Sam is an energetic big boy that thinks he is a lap dog. He has never met a stranger and his bark is certainly bigger than his bite. He is a lover boy. He has never bitten anyone, we have another dog and cat which he is great with. Sam has been around numerous children and adults with zero problems. Sam would do best with a large fenced area to run and someone who is energetic, he LOVES walks, but will pull because he is so excited. He sleeps in a crate at night and lives for treats and his toys.

Story
I’ve had Beckham (beck) ever since I was 16 years old (currently 24)and he has been a great dog through it all. He’s really good with cats and understands the need be gentle with them because they’re smaller than him. He has epilepsy that is easily managed with his diet as he cannot eat anything with grains. He’s house trained, knows how to do basic commands like sit, lay down, come, speak, up& down, and drop (for anything he picks up). Thinks he’s a lap dog and gets confused when he does not fit in a chair with you. Is missing a few teeth due to a surgery he needed to have a few years ago but is still able to eat hard foods. Well loved and loves well in return.

Story
Luke and his sister came into Ruff Love Rescue as a bonded pair.  They came to us after their previous owner encountered medical issues that left her unable to continue to care for them.  Luke and his sister Lizzie didn't care too much for other dogs, but they loved one another and were devoted to one another. Unfortunately, in April of 2024, Lizzie's health deteriorated significantly and she died, leaving Luke alone, without his sister.  He is, as you can imagine, a little lost without his sister. He doesn't like it when another dog gets in his face, so to be safe, it would be best if he were an only dog. Luke's vet estimated year of birth is 2011.   Luke is such a sweet dog.  He would make a great companion, especially to someone who can provide a warm room with a soft bed and a loving touch.  Luke is house trained. He's a sweet older gentleman who would love a home.  Could you make sure the rest of his life is the best of his life?  ~~ Adoption donation $150. All vetting is up to date. Microchipped and altered. Also on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. Visit www.ruffloverescue.com to make this pup a member of your familyJuly 26, 2024, 9:26 am

Story
Fiddle recently went on a Dog Day Out and here's what his DDO buddy had to say! 1st DDO: "I was lucky to spend a relaxing few hours with Fiddle today, a mellow and fun-loving boy! He jumps right in the car and is content quietly looking out at the world. We hiked several miles in Gibson Park, had a picnic, then mingled with people at PetSmart. He shared with me that he is: - Friendly towards people - Only mildly interested in wild animals. - A joy to walk (see videos). - Happy to bury some bones. - Not keen on getting his feet wet. - Treat-motivated and gentle with them. - Quick on the "sit" command. - Quiet and never barked. Fiddle is just a handsome, gentle, and fun boy ready to bring joy into someone's home. He's waiting for you at Guilford County Animal Services and can be adopted 12-4:00 pm any day but Tuesday." 2nd DDO: "FIDDLE was such a fun companion for my most recent Dogs Day Out! We started out the morning at the Sweetwater Court Sniffspot, where he spent the whole hour playing with toys, rolling in the grass, and laying in the shade. After that, we spent some time at my parents' house in the kitchen and backyard where he really enjoyed laying on the cold floor since it was a hot day. He was so playful and fun to be with! Before we went back to the shelter, we took a short walk on a shady trail and enjoyed our last hour together. - Fiddle is a 5 yr old Boxer mix neutered male. He is 52 lbs and HW Negative - Loved playing with toys, very playful - Took treats gently - Amazing car rider, barked once when he saw a dog in the parking lot of the trail but other than that not a sound - Very sweet natured and gentle, jumped up a little with excitement but was easily redirected and didn't show any signs of mouthiness - Respectful of the small area we explored in the house which was the kitchen, didn't jump on counters or chew anything - Great walker, no pulling at all" As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines. To meet your future pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!

Story
Dean recently went on a Dog Day Out and here's what his DDO buddy had to say! "We took Dean on a Dog's Day Out and had the best time today! Dean is cute as a button and has a sweet personality too. Dean visited Petsmart, Ross, and Lowe's with us and was quite well-behaved. Next he enjoyed playtime at Sweetwater Court Private Dog Playground and Gardens! Afterward we had lunch at Freddy's and Dean had a tasty pup cup. We visited my dad and stepmom downtown and Dean had a little stroll through the park. Dean also visited our house briefly before it was time to go back to the shelter. Details about Dean: About 1 year old-he is young but past puppy wildness 43 lbs-easy medium size HW negative - Great walker-doesn't really pull at all - Smart-knows sit and down and I believe he has done shake/paw for others - Treat motivated-this will help with future training - Affectionate-loves to be by your side or in your lap - He played a little with a squeaky toy today but overall prefers just hanging out with people - He would be happy snuggling on a couch with you! He didn't have a high energy level today but that could be partially due to the heat. - Good car rider-jumps in easily and lies down for you to hook/unhook from his seatbelts. Sometimes tries to come into the front seat because he wants to be closer to you. - Slightly shy in new situations/around new people but it doesn't take long for him to warm up to you - He was only in our house for a little bit but had no accidents there or in the stores we visited. I think he would be potty trained quickly as he potties promptly upon going outside. - He has the cutest little Boxer face and his fur seems more like Retriever fur" As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines. Dean is currently being fostered by Hounds Town Greensboro-Guilford Doggie Daycare and is available for adoption. Story
Maureen ("Moe") was a favorite at the local shelter, but was not able to find her new home while there, so AARF pulled her to get give her another chance to find a great new home from her great foster home. Moe is a sweet and very playful terrier mix. Chewing and chasing toys or playing tug of war are her favorite activities. She loves to play with other dogs, but is still learning boundaries. She so would be best in a cat-less home. Moe is completely potty trained, and working on crate training. She doesn't bark or whine in the crate but is reluctant to go inside it. Moe loves to snuggle on the couch with people. She has been going for daily walks and is working on not pulling, and practicing good manners by stopping, sitting, and waiting patiently when other dogs pass by. She does not bark at other dogs, but eagerly wants to meet them and say "Hi!" Moe loves to run around outside, chasing birds, squirrels, and rabbits. She loves to have her praises sung with lots of pets and kisses. If you'd like a loving and playful addition to your family, Moe would be a perfect fit! Come meet our adoptable dogs on Saturdays from 11am to 1pm in the backyard at AARF's new location- 302 Thurston St, W-S. Go to AARFWS.org to view and apply for our AARF dogs. Information about the process is available on our website. Remember that we do not adopt more than a 45-minute radius from our facility in Winston Salem.

Story
Turbeau aka Beau we adopted from Forsyth Human Society in March of 2021. He has come out of his shell and worked on his manners of learning to live inside. He is an energetic and curious boy who loves to play fetch and then is also content to cuddle. He lives with a doggy sister and several cat siblings- gets along with them all. He is protective of food and toys which we have worked on. He enjoys walks and has done well learning to walk with a gentle leader. He is reactive to other dogs when on walks, especially littler dogs. Beau has lots of separation anxiety and general anxiety with new or unknown situations which we have found medication to work best making him more comfortable. He is crate and house trained. He thinks of his crate as his safe place. He would love to be in a home where he is the only dog or a larger female dog. He very much would love to be the center of attention. He also would need a home with no young children.
