Story
Athena's owner has developed medical concerns that is interfering with his ability to care for her anymore. She is a very sweet, affectionate dog with very high energy levels. Athena has not received much training from her previous owner and needs to learn to walk on a leash without pulling. She is currently crated during the day but plays well with a senior dog in the evening. Athena will have to be surrendered if we can't find a safe home for her quickly.

Honestly, I can't remember my parents, but you can always have a DNA test done if that matters to you.  If you would like to meet me, please stop at the Portage Co Dog Warden's Shelter where I am waiting for you.Otis Petfinder Listing: https://www.petfinder.com/dog/190694-otis-3bba140d-e864-4919-94d2-62cb15cda852/oh/ravenna/portage-county-dog-warden-shelter-oh184/details/Otis is not a Rose's Rescue dog. Story
Athena - After 6 years in a home, Athena finds herself homeless after her dad suffered from some medical complications. Currently at a foster home, Athena is adjusting well. She enjoys the company of her foster 4-legged siblings. She adores her foster family. She is super affectionate and is always eager to please her people. Athena loves her walks. She pulls from excitement at being outdoors and meeting people on her walks. Athena is a Boxer mix. She is looking for a home where she could be a companion to her people. Cuddles and daily walks would make her very happy. Athena needs a little time adjusting to a new environment (home) but bear with her and you will be rewarded with the most affectionate and loyal dog. An adult only home or a home with older kids is preferred since Athena has not been in the company of little kids. She has not been around cats either. **Courtesy post**

**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there! My name is Zar. I'm about 1 1/2 years old and I weigh about 58 lbs. I was picked up as a stray in the Kensington/ Salineville area and was brought into the pound. My owner was located, but didn't claim me, so I am now looking for a new, loving family to join. I am a sweet, happy boy. I love attention and affection. Oh, and I LOVE to play ball! I love cuddling on the couch with my dog friends, or cuddling with you and getting a little attention... or a lot of attention. I am potty trained and crate trained and I do a great job keeping my kennel clean here at the pound. I love to play with other dogs. I've generally done better with females than males, but I am good with either sex as long as they're playful and friendly. I am okay with cats but they don't really appreciate my shenanigans. If they run from me, I will chase them. A dog savvy cat that will give me an ol' bop bop bam would probably do me some good. I didn't have a great start to my life and now I am in the pound hoping for another chance at finding a great, loving home. Please consider adopting me! Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Story
Meet Mia (aka Schmi or Miar-Piar)! Mia is estimated to be 6 years old and has been with us for almost 5 years. She is the biggest sweetheart who absolutely LOVES her people and wants nothing more than to be close to you. Her favorite place is snuggled under the covers with her head on your pillow, soaking up all the love. She loves sunbathing, chasing critters, running around outside, and then coming in to lounge beside you. Mia is dog-reactive and can bark, jump, and become stressed when she sees other dogs. We aren’t sure of the full extent of her reactivity, so she would need to be the only dog in her home. She has never shown aggression toward people and absolutely adores humans. She is patient and tolerant with our young daughter, but we believe she would thrive most in a home without young children, where she can be the center of attention. Older, respectful kids could be a great fit. Mia has so much love to give. She just needs a home where she can be someone’s whole world.

Story
Sadie is a 9-year-old sweetheart with a big personality and lots of love to give! She absolutely loves people and children and enjoys playing, being silly, and spending time with her family. One of her favorite outdoor activities is hunting for groundhogs, so she definitely still has a playful and adventurous side! Sadie does best without other female dogs in the home. She currently lives with Brownie, a male husky, and they do very well together. If possible, I would love to find a wonderful home willing to adopt both Sadie and Brownie so they can stay together. They would make a great pair for someone looking for two loving companions. Most of all, Sadie is a sweet, people-loving girl who deserves a home where she can continue getting lots of love, attention, and playtime.
