**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Ohshi. I'm about 7 years old and I weigh about 55 lbs. I was brought into the pound after hours and left in one of the kennels here after our owners were in a dispute. They are currently separated and in legal battles. There is a lot of he said- she said, so the whole truth is really hard to determine. What is known is that me and my friend were left here in kennels after hours and were later identified by one of our owners. Unfortunately, although that person would love to have me back home, they are now displaced and in a place where they cannot currently own animals, so I now have to look for a new family to join. I'm a little timid and standoffish sometimes when I meet new people. I am VERY sweet, friendly and affectionate with all of the staff and volunteers now that I know all of them. I get very protective of my home and family and would do a great job of helping you feel safe. I am housebroken and crate trained and a really good girl inside. I LOVE to play with toys and I am a very funny girl to watch. I like going for walks and just spending time with my people. I do best if I'm walked on a harness as I have a collapsing trachea. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Story
Meet  Matcha aka matcha latte  Age: estimated around 1-2 years old.   Weight: 40 lbs. Breed: boxer mix.  This sweet girl was found abandoned in a car with another dog and was dangerously underweight. Now Matcha is a healthy, medium sized dog and she’s learning what a good life looks like.  Even with her rough start to life she’s still a very happy, loving, carefree pup. Matcha loves playing with other dogs and snuggling on the couch (especially under the blanket). She’s obsessed with all toys but anything with a squeaker is her favorite. Toys don’t last long with her so be prepared to clean up fluff but she will leave your shoes/pillows alone.  We’re learning that Matcha does have some fear based reactivity when meeting new people but once you earn her trust she’s a total love bug so say goodbye to personal space. She tends to be more fearful of men which leads us to believe she may have previously been abused but if you give her some time, treats or a new toy she’ll eventually be your best friend.  Matcha doesn’t love the vet although I can’t say I blame her. Previous appointments have required muzzling, calming meds and mild sedation but it’s possible she could overcome her fears with time. Matcha is crate trained and potty trained but she does think baby gates are her own personal hurdles to jump.   Matcha would probably do best in a home with older children due to some of her puppy tendencies and she would like another dog but one isn’t required. If you feel capable of giving Matcha the time, patience and support needed along with a fraction of the love she’ll give you, please fill out an application to meet this sweet girl so she can finally have a loving family of her own. Matcha is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines, and current on heartworm, flea, and tick prevention. Matcha's adoption fee is $250. Ready to Make Matcha part of your family? Story
Meet Layla!Through no fault of her own, Layla found herself at the shelter after being surrendered because of her habit of chewing…well…pretty much anything she could get her paws on. Shoes, toys, maybe a suspicious-looking pillow or two — Layla has definitely been known to redecorate! But here’s the thing about Layla: she’s so much more than that one little quirk. During her time at the shelter, she has shown everyone what a wonderful dog she truly is. Layla has been fantastic around other dogs and has even done well around cats, proving that she can be a great companion in a multi-pet household. She’s affectionate, friendly, and clearly just wants a place where she belongs.Like many dogs, Layla may simply need a little structure, plenty of appropriate toys, and some guidance to help channel her chewing into the right things. With patience, love, and maybe a good stash of durable chew toys, Layla has all the potential to thrive in a home again.Layla deserves a second chance — a family willing to see the sweet, loving dog behind the habit and give her the fresh start she’s been waiting for. If you’re looking for a loyal companion and are ready to help Layla write her next chapter, she’s ready to meet you. 💛🐶Give us a call at (740) 314-5583 for more information!ADOPTION APPLICATION:All adoption applications are completed at the shelter unless otherwise noted.FOSTER APPLICATION:Want to be a hero for a homeless animal in need? Story
Meet Goober — and yes, the name fits perfectly. This all-white boxer is a walking cartoon character with an underbite so legendary it steals the spotlight everywhere he goes. He’s dorky, lovable, and completely unaware of his own… creative interpretations of bathroom etiquette.Let’s be honest: Goober currently has absolutely no idea where he should be peeing. Structure? Routine? Boundaries? He’s heard of them. Probably. Maybe. But with consistency and guidance, this goofy guy has all the potential to learn the ropes. What he lacks in polish, he makes up for in personality. Goober is playful, silly, and full of that classic boxer charm. He doesn’t mean to be chaos — he just needs someone willing to show him how to channel it.Goober’s Ideal Home:A patient, structured household that’s ready to commit to training and routine. Someone with a sense of humor is a must — because living with Goober will absolutely keep you entertained. If you’ve been looking for a dog who’s 50% sweetheart, 50% comedic relief, and 100% in need of a life coach, Goober is ready to enroll in your household immediately. 🐶✨Give us a call at (740) 314-5583 for more information!ADOPTION APPLICATION:All adoption applications are completed at the shelter unless otherwise noted.FOSTER APPLICATION:Want to be a hero for a homeless animal in need?
