Story
Interviewer: Thank you, Gus, for agreeing to this interview. Let`s get right to it, shall we? Tell me about your likes, your hobbies.Gus: I like to eat, of course, go for walks (or runs) and smell things. I like belly rubs, soft blankets and beds. My #1 hobby right now is ripping up boxes. But, to be honest, I`m still trying to figure out what I like. I haven`t had much exposure to anything the first 2 years of my life. Interviewer: Are you high energy or needy?Gus: I don`t think so. I definitely like to play and run. And I love a good pet and cuddle. But I think I`m pretty balanced. After a good walk, I`m ready for a nap. I`ll sleep in my crate or on my bed. Interviewer: Do you have any physical or mental health issues? Gus: Definitely no physical - healthy as a horse. Mentally, however, I`ve been on anxiety meds in the past but don`t take them anymore, just the occasional calming treat. I had a rough first two years of my life so I have some insecurities and fears. Because of that I am initially a little shy but then I bond closely.Interviewer: What do you think can help with that? Gus: A predictable routine and environment and a calm loving hand.Interviewer: Besides those things, how would you describe your perfect home?Gus: I`d LOVE to have a playful canine companion. I feel more comfortable with another dog around. I don`t mind cats either, as long as they don`t mind me. I`d prefer a lower traffic household and somebody who just wants to hang out on the couch with me..Interviewer: That sounds reasonable and doable. We just have to reach the right heart(s). Thank you for your time, Gus. I hope you find your new family soon.

**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Big Mac. I'm about 4 years old and I weigh about 65 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Winona area. I was microchipped, but the chip was not registered and therefore unable to be traced back to my owner. Nobody came looking for me or tried to claim me, so I am now looking for a loving new family to join. I am a very sweet boy. I am very affectionate. I love getting petted and once I am comfortable with you, I love getting snuggles! I have been good with the other dogs and even the office cats here at the pound. I keep my kennel clean at night and appear to have been a house dog before making my way into the pound. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Ohshi. I'm about 7 years old and I weigh about 55 lbs. I was brought into the pound after hours and left in one of the kennels here after our owners were in a dispute. They are currently separated and in legal battles. There is a lot of he said- she said, so the whole truth is really hard to determine. What is known is that me and my friend were left here in kennels after hours and were later identified by one of our owners. Unfortunately, although that person would love to have me back home, they are now displaced and in a place where they cannot currently own animals, so I now have to look for a new family to join. I'm a little timid and standoffish sometimes when I meet new people. I am VERY sweet, friendly and affectionate with all of the staff and volunteers now that I know all of them. I get very protective of my home and family and would do a great job of helping you feel safe. I am housebroken and crate trained and a really good girl inside. I LOVE to play with toys and I am a very funny girl to watch. I like going for walks and just spending time with my people. I do best if I'm walked on a harness as I have a collapsing trachea. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Monkey. I'm about 1 1/2 years old and I weigh about 50 lbs. My brother Goblin and I were found as strays in the Salem area near Wal Mart. We were finally able to be captured by the Humane Agent after a couple of days on the run. To say that we were extremely neglected would be an understatement. We were covered in fleas and ticks. We had missing hair and flea allergy dermatitis. We had apparently been housed in small areas and were caked in feces and urine... Aside from all of that, we have had no real socialization before making our way into the pound. It appears that we haven't been handled at all. Neither of us knew how to walk on a leash and we were didn't know much about receiving attention and affection. We have been getting lots of work with leash training and we're both doing extremely well. We're also learning how to be loved and we're absolutely flourishing. I will need a family that can help continue giving me plenty of socialization and training. I will definitely need work with housebreaking. I have probably never had any type of training at all, especially not housebreaking or crate training, so I will need a patient and understanding family. I absolutely love other dogs! I love to play and a home with other dogs that are well behaved and trained would be great for me. If you're looking for a perfect dog, I'm probably not it, but if you have some patience and a lot of love to give, you might be able to make me the perfect dog for you! Please consider adopting me. Story
This is the sweetest puppy that I have had the pleasure of fostering. He is very loving despite the fact that he was used as a bait dog.He has shown zero aggression. He is good with dogs and cats.He takes time to warm up to people. So any new person you have over he will need a small introduction time before he will allow them to pet him. He is more afraid of males than females. His potty training is going great. He can go the whole night without an accident. As far as crate training I still have to pick him up and put him in. I only put him in the crate when I leave. He is not a fan of the crate but in time he will adjust to it.He will do well in a family setting or with an individual. If you want a guard dog I suggest you look elsewhere. However; if you want a sweet cuddle buddy this is your guy.I selected the dot with experienced adopter because of his past. If someone yells he gets scared easily. He was abused and was a bait dog. I want him to go to a loving home.
