Story
Hazel has been waiting patiently for the right family—and we think she's more than worth the wait.
Hazel has been in foster care longer than she deserves. She was surrendered by her original owner and later thought she'd found her forever home, but due to severe dog allergies that developed in one of the children, her foster family was no longer able to keep any of their pets. Through it all, Hazel has remained the same sweet, loving dog.
Since moving to her current foster home, Hazel has settled in beautifully. She's been especially gentle with children in all of the homes she's stayed in and loves being part of the family's daily routine.
Hazel is a true velcro dog who wants to be wherever her people are. She'll happily follow you from room to room, and despite her size, she's convinced she's a lap dog. She loves long walks, playing with her foster's large male dog, squeaky balls, and just about any chew toy. She plays hard, naps even harder, and her little nub tail is always wagging when she's happy. She's incredibly smart, eager to learn, and enjoys having a job to do.
One of the things that makes Hazel so special is her unique heritage. She's a mix of livestock guardian breeds, including Central Asian Ovcharka, Anatolian Shepherd, Taigan, and more. These breeds are known for being loyal, intelligent, and deeply devoted to their families. They also tend to be naturally observant and a bit reserved with new people, so it's perfectly normal for Hazel to take a little time to warm up. Like many guardian breeds, she'll happily let you know when someone is at the door, but once she knows you're part of her circle, she's affectionate, goofy, and incredibly loyal. She's made wonderful progress in foster and continues to grow more confident every day.
Hazel would do best with an active family, a large male dog to be her playmate, someone who is home much of the day, and people who will give her a little time to settle into a new routine. In return, you'll have a constant companion who will make you laugh, keep you company, and love you wholeheartedly.
Hazel has been waiting for the right match, not just the next one. If you're looking for a loyal best friend with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Hazel might just be your girl.
