Story

Birdie is a three-year-old cat. She was found as a kitten in our corn crib on our acreage during the bitter cold of winter. We have three dogs and had another cat at the time. We brought her inside and she was an instant companion to our other/older cat. One of our dogs has prey drive so the two cats took over the mudroom and basement. They were great companions. About a year ago our other cat passed away suddenly. Birdie has done fine on her own but since she cannot fully integrate into our house with our dogs she has been a bit lonely. She is friendly with cats and dogs (it is just one of our dogs that isn't so friendly with her, but she reacts very well to her). She is great with our kids. She is so cuddly and loves pets. She uses a litter box and we give her food once a day that she feeds off of intermittently throughout the day. She has a chip and is spayed. She only lived outside for the first few weeks/month of her life and likely would do best in a home where she can be inside.

Luna is 10 years old. She was first raised with a dog, blue heeler, then moved on to have cat siblings. She isnt huge on them but she will cuddle every so often with them. She absolutely loves attention. She loves cuddles and pets. Will tolerate being held and loves being outside. The perfect cat other than she has bowel issues. She needs miralax or vet prescription to help her move things along. She also cant always control where she goes. She has no fee because her shots expire next month.

She has done okay with other cats that match her energy or are laid back but she would also be great as your only kitty. She has not yet been tested with dogs and would likely do best in a home with older children that understand her boundaries of not wanting to be picked up at times. Lyra's adoption fee is $85 and includes her spay, microchip, current vaccinations, and an FeLV/FIV test. Last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor only pets and that adopters have a history of having kept their pets altered and current on vaccinations, preventatives, and wellness exams. George was part of a litter born under a shed next to a very busy alley. Our volunteer TNRed the litter but George was very friendly and didn't stay away from the cars. We just couldn't leave him out there. George was adopted by his caregiver, but she had to move so he was returned.Indoor homes only unless the cat is part of our barn cat program. Home visits are required so we are limit adoptions to approximately 45 minutes from Cedar Rapids, IA. Iowa adoptions only -no out of state adoptions. Our Cedar Rapids adoption center is open by appointment only at this time. You may schedule an appointment on our Facebook page or website. Click "Book Now" for available days and times.
