We adopted this sweet dog over two years ago. He was VERY anxious and afraid. He has warmed so well to people, but continues to have issues with our other dog. It has unfortunately become unsafe in our house, as we now have an infant. He loves the woods, relaxing on the couch, and having snacks. Great guard dog and VERY low maintenance. Just under 70 pounds. To be clear, he has done well in day care and at dog parks, but something about his home space makes him territorial and unpredictable in the house with us.

While he is a playful pup full of energy and affection, he is also extremely fearful of the world. This fear can manifest into making him protective and reactive. As his anxiety traits present a challenge, a quiet, experienced and patient home is required to address his needs. He should also be in a home without children or other pets. Among his many positive qualities, he is quiet, house trained, crate trained, and he will sit nicely and lift his paw for a treat. Meet Sawyer! At approximately months old, Sawyer has already had quite a journey. This handsome boy showed up as a stray, frightened and alone. He was found cowering under a house, clearly terrified and completely lost. Despite every effort to find his family, no owner ever came forward, so now Sawyer is looking for the forever home he truly deserves. Our veterinarian believes Sawyer may be a Catahoula Leopard Dog mix, and at about 55 pounds already, he's going to be a big, athletic boy! Sawyer has blossomed in foster care and is proving to be a wonderful companion. He is crate trained, knows the commands "sit," "down," and "stay," and has excellent house manners. He always takes care of his potty business when he goes outside. One thing that's become clear is that Sawyer was likely an indoor family dog before he was lost. He enjoys playing outside, tossing his toys into the air and chasing after them, but he doesn't like being left outside by himself. The moment he thinks his person is going inside without him, he'll race to the door, eager to be with his family. He loves toys and loves to take them outside to play with them. Sawyer is incredibly smart and observant. He quickly learns routines and pays close attention to everything happening around him. At bedtime, he settles quietly in his crate without a peep. In the morning, he patiently waits until he hears everyone else getting up before he's ready to start his day. This sweet, goofy boy has a playful side that will keep you smiling. He loves chasing bugs (as long as they aren't chasing him! 😊), and the frogs in his foster home's yard haven't had a moment's peace since Sawyer. He is currently being fostered in Mississippi but can be transported to you!
