She has become confident walking on the leash and enjoys long walks. She's potty trained, crate trained, and sleeps through the night inside and outside of her crate. Very smart and quick at understanding "house rules". Nervous around new people and other dogs. With people, she just takes some time to warm up to them. Does fine with cats (doesn't engage or bark). She'll play fetch when she gets the zoomies, but for the most part is a lap dog. She's slowly working on her social skills. Good with car rides. www.coppersdream.org If you are interested in adopting this dog please visit this link to get the adoption process started. Story
Darla has come a long way from her rough past and is finally starting to blossom. She can still be a little hesitant and shy at times, but her wagging tail shows the happy girl she truly is inside. With patience and kindness, she’s learned that people can be friends—going from being fearful to now offering sweet kisses and nose boops. Darla especially lights up for treats (turkey is her favorite!) and greets us with excitement whenever we walk through the door. Energy Level?low House trained?yes Describe how they are on leash?she loves going on walks. she loves to sniff but doesn't pull, she'll trot along happily next to you Describe how they are with other dogs?likes playing with the resident Chihuahua, doesn't seem bothered by other dogs she sees Have they been around cats or other animals? How were they?doesn't show interest. not sure about cats but I'm sure she wouldn't care  Commands they know?nothing really  What are their favorite things?going on walks and eating food What do they need to work on?barking at people, peeing when we go to put the leash on (does a nervous small pee) How are they when left alone? How long have they been left alone?totally fine, just relaxes and sleeps. might steal some clothes and bring to her bed Where do they sleep?in a large crate, she's very happy to run in and be in a safe space  What is their ideal home? Darla is a relatively easy to manage dog and doesn't need a lot of attention, but she would do great in a home that can give her time to get settled and that can work with her on her barking and small fears. She's a very sweet girl who's still nervous of new people so it would be good to be somewhere that doesn't have constant new people coming in and out. She doesn't need a dog companion but would probably benefit from having one that can show her people are OK and to keep her comfortable October 19, 2025, 4:03 am

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, December 13th from 12-3pm unless adopted prior to the event. To be considered for adoption, pls submit an application in advance. Adoption fee: $600 Meet Quinn At just 5 lbs, 4 year old Quinn is the definition of a pocket-sized sweetheart. This gentle little Chihuahua came to DPS after her owner passed away and was completely heartbroken and terrified in the shelter. With love and patience from her foster family, Quinn has blossomed into a devoted, affectionate companion who is ready to find a forever home of her own.   Quinn starts her day around 7am with a quick trip to the backyard, then enjoys a leisurely breakfast—mshe grazes throughout the day and often saves a few bites for dinner time. Her days are calm and cozy; she loves curling up in her foster mom’s lap or finding a sunny spot to watch the birds outside. In the evening, she goes for a relaxed stroll around the neighborhood before dinner. She walks beautifully on a leash and doesn’t bark or pull— just takes in the sights at her own pace.   When Quinn first arrived, she was too scared to leave her crate. But after a day of gentle encouragement, she began to trust her foster mom and soon became her little shadow. Quinn is a velcro dog at heart— she loves to be close to her person and will happily follow you from room to room—but she can also be left alone without issue as long as she has access to the yard for potty time. She’s housetrained, crate trained, quiet, and respectful in the home. While she's used to going potty in the yard, it's likely she could adjust to using potty pads in an apartment setting as well, so she's an option for folks who work outside the home and will be gone during the day.   While Quinn can coexist peacefully with other dogs, she would be happiest as the only dog in the home so she can soak up all the love and attention for herself. She’s okay meeting dogs on walks and has been calm around visiting kids and guests, though she’s initially shy with new people. Once she warms up, her loyalty and affection shine through— she’ll greet you joyfully when you come home and never let you feel alone.   Quinn would thrive in a calm home with patient adopters who understand that trust takes time but is well worth the wait. Her ideal family would have older kids or adults who appreciate a quiet, gentle companion and who find joy in a tiny dog who simply wants to be by their side.   Favorite things: sitting in the sun, watching the world go by, and being loved by her person.   In short: shy at first, deeply loyal once she knows you—Quinn is a little dog with a big heart who just wants someone to call her own.December 12, 2025, 3:44 am
