Story
Kennedy is a unique and resilient pup who’s still figuring out how to trust. He’s had a rough start, but underneath his uncertainty is a dog who truly wants love—he just needs patience and the right approach. This guy is house-trained (no accidents here!) and crate-trained, settling in without complaint at night. He also does well in a playpen when left alone for short periods. He loves his toys, especially Nylabones and balls, but can be a little possessive with them. Kennedy enjoys being near his people - he follows them from room to room, wags his tail to show his feelings, and even gives kisses. He may ask for affection by bumping against you or jumping in your lap but then growl or nip when actually petted. Kennedy knows "come" and "sit", but treats (especially chicken!) help him stay engaged. He’s leash-reactive when it comes to putting it on or taking it off, especially around his neck, but once he’s walking, he does well - though 15 minutes is his max before he’s exhausted. He clearly has a history of being fed from the table and will wait at mealtime for a better offer- but don’t fall for it! Kennedy needs an experienced, patient adopter who understands that trust takes time. His ideal home is one where: He can continue learning boundaries in a structured environment, touch and handling are approached with patience and care, he has a predictable routine and a safe space to retreat when needed, and he’s allowed to bond at his own pace - on his terms PLEASE NOTE: All your current pets must be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention to adopt from Polka Dogz. We only adopt in Florida. All adoption fees go to help all the dogs in the rescue, some of which require extensive medical care. Thank you for caring for the greater good. Adoption fee is $150 and you can adopt me at www.polkadogz.org. ##2510665##

Story
At 13 years young, Douglas has perfected the art of enjoying life’s simple pleasures — and he’s hoping to find someone to share them with. This charming little Chihuahua mix may be a senior on paper, but don’t tell him that. Douglas still has plenty of pep in his step and absolutely lives for his daily walks. The moment you reach for the leash, his spunky personality shines through, ready for adventure and fresh air. When he’s not out exploring the world, you’ll find him soaking up sunshine like a tiny solar panel, happily stretched out in the warmest patch of light he can find. And when it’s time to relax? Douglas is a professional snuggler. He has a delightful ritual of circling and arranging his blanket just right before curling up into the coziest little ball you’ve ever seen. Sweet, curious, and incredibly devoted, Douglas is the kind of dog who becomes your constant companion. He’ll follow you from room to room, simply wanting to be near his person. Not clingy — just lovingly loyal. And when you do have to step out, he’s perfectly content holding down the fort at home like the good boy he is. Douglas doesn’t need much — just gentle walks, sunny spots, soft blankets, and someone to love. In return, he’ll give you unwavering companionship, quiet affection, and a heart full of gratitude. If you’re looking for a sweet, soulful little sidekick to share your days, Douglas is ready to follow you home. Story
Zag is a beige on brown 16lb young man who would love to be found by the perfect home to let his friendship abound. He knows how to sit for treats, and takes the treats easily.  He's not a rush eater either.  While he enjoys being around the people, he also likes having personal space.  He enjoys a nice soft bed and a blanket in his crate so that he can have the personal space and doesnt mind too much when he's got to go in for the night.  He's still working on how to play with toys.  He's got a super chill vibe when he's lounging on the couch with you, and doesnt have to be the center of attention - but will let you know when it's his turn to be in the spotlight.  He likes to take long walks on the leash.  He's not a kisser, and isnt good with a lot of quick motions that are close to him.  Zag is good with other dogs.   PLEASE NOTE: All your current pets must be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention to adopt from Polka Dogz. Story
Meet ten year old, Harper who is a quiet, sweet girl who loves to snuggle and be close to people. Wherever you are, that's where she loves to curl up. She's very playful in the mornings, but as an older gal she still appreciates a good nap throughout the day. She loves laying in the sun, taking walks outside, and chasing lizards. She is potty trained and likes to be taken out on a regular basis. She will stand at the back door if she needs to go outside. She's good with other dogs, but she needs to warm up to them slowly. She's a little shy with other dogs until she gets to know them. If you are looking for a loving and devoted companion, she's the perfect dog for you.  PLEASE NOTE: All your current pets must be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention to adopt from Polka Dogz. Story
Meet Peanut Butter — a tiny old soul with a big personality and a heart that refuses to be overlooked. At 14 years young, this chihuahua mix found himself on a euthanasia list at a rural shelter… but our volunteers knew his story wasn’t over. They saw something special in those wise little eyes and made sure he got his second chance. Peanut Butter is a classic “two-sides-of-the-coin” kind of gentleman. One moment, he’s a crotchety old man, grumbling his opinions about the world. The next? He’s a soft, sleepy sweetheart, curled up in your lap like he’s been there his whole life. And honestly, that’s part of his charm. He’s very clear about his boundaries — Peanut Butter prefers not to be picked up and will let you know with a quick nip if he’s uncomfortable. He also isn’t a fan of anything going over his head, so collars and harnesses aren’t his style. Because of this, he’ll need a securely fenced yard where he can safely enjoy the outdoors on his own terms. This little guy mostly uses pee pads and occasionally will let you know when he’d like to go outside. He gets along just fine with calm, respectful dogs who understand that he’s a senior who values his space. Peanut Butter is looking for a quiet, adult-only home where he can truly relax and be himself. A place where his quirks aren’t just accepted—but appreciated. And here’s the part his volunteers will tell you with a smile: despite his grumbles, Peanut Butter is a favorite. He gives you fair warning when he’s not in the mood, but if you meet him where he is—sit on the floor or a low seat—he’ll toddle over, climb into your lap, and drift off to sleep as you gently pet him. It’s in those quiet moments that you see just how much love he still has to give. Even bath time has shown his softer side. Wrapped in a towel and gently placed in a sink, he relaxes and allows care, reminding us that beneath the tough exterior is a little dog who just needs patience and understanding. Peanut Butter isn’t for everyone—but for the right person, he’s everything. A perfectly imperfect companion who will fill your home with character, quiet companionship, and the kind of love only a senior dog can give.
