You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.NOTE- SOLOMON IS LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR AN INDIVIDUAL ASKING TO REHOME THEIR DOG. Solomon is a 7-year-old min pin and chihuahua mix I believe, and he loves to sing.  He loves to listen to music and some of his favorite artists are Michael Jackson, Chris Brown and Drake. Solomon is house broken and loves to sit and watch people out of the front door and windows.  He loves being outside and loves walks in the park and around the neighborhood.  Solomon does not tear things up like mail, toilet paper, socks, or trash.  He also loves to cuddle and be rubbed.  Solomon hates baths and water but I give him a bath anyway telling him that he has to be clean. He loves treats and his favorite treat is duck wrapped sweet potato from Wal Mart.  Solomon loves bones and his favorite toy is Lamb Chop or any bear that he can tussle with.   Solomon does growl sometimes when he sees other dogs and cats. He also runs after birds if he sees them and barks. Slow introductions are needed with dogs, cats, and children. Solomon does get protective of his person, so he would do best in a home with no children and perhaps just one adult that he can bond with. If you are interested in adopting Solomon, please go to www.reachoutrescue.org and fill out an application and we will forward it to his caretaker for review. You may also contact his caretaker directly at : eddinaw6@yahoo.com Phone:302-256-4318Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 23, 2024, 10:55 am

This sweet, sweet boy has been raised and cared for with great love and kindness, but suddenly he has been uprooted from his lifelong home and scheduled to be killed for no reason other than his family was broken and he had nowhere to go. Rescue stepped in at the last moment and we are so happy we did. He is perfectly housebroken, up to date on all his shots, loves other dogs, cats, has shown himself to be fine with children. In short, he is the whole package of a great dog! The part about loving other dogs? He was living with his best friends, Kyler, Mackie, and Nala when his world crashed. They all loved each other  and did perfectly together. If you were thinking of getting a pair of dogs (or more?), here they are, ready made and easy. Those dogs are listed also on our site and up for adoption. You can see how cute they are! Enjoy looking! We will be happy to processs you for more than one, or just one. Peanut deserves the very best, and that person just might be YOU! Peanut's current foster has requested he go to a home with at least one other dog. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.Chase is 7 years old and definitely has a lot of life left in him. He loves to run and play in the yard. He is good with other dogs but does like his space unless he engages to play. Chase is a happy little guy and loves to have his head petted and his neck and back rubbed and massaged. He does not like to be picked up all the time but will let you know when he does. He will jump up on your lap from affection. Chase gets very excited when people visit him. We have worked on two options that help him, have our guests come in and not put their hands down to pet him until he smells them and then he is fine or put him in another room until the guests have settled in and then he will come and greet them. He is not mean, he just gets so excited he nips at your fingers if you try to pet too soon.   It will take Chase a little time to settle in but once he does he will be your companion for the rest of his life.   He is house trained but might need an early morning potty break but he lets you know that he has to go out. He is currently living with 5 other dogs from 10 lbs to 70 lbs, senior and puppy!! He gets groomed about every 8 weeks to keep his beautiful coat neat. He loves to prance after he returns from the groomer. He likes to take walks and also likes to go in the car, he is a little nervous at first and then settles down.    Since Chase is so excited to see people we will not place him with a family with children. He needs adult attention as children may spook him.  Chase needs to have a fenced yard so he can run and play in addition to any walks and car rides offered to him. Chase has been around cats at the groomer and does not seem to care.   The perfect home for Chase would be with a retired family and no other animals. Chase does have some food aggression, so when he is fed let him finish his bowl and walk away before picking up the bowl. He gets fed twice a day and no grazing. He takes treats very gently.SPECIAL NOTE FOR YOU. wE HAVE DONE A DNA ON THIS LITTLE BOY AND HERE IT IS:  Chase's DNA Results - main breeds  (I would not have guessed the poodle first, his coat is straight and sleek) 30% Poodle (Toy and Miniature) 22% Chihuahua 11% Pomeranian 6% American Eskimo Dog 6% Miniature Pinscher   If you are interested in Chase, please fill out an application at: https://reachoutrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=4588    Or contact: rorrcanine@gmail.com   *** Click here to sponsor this dog! ***  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 23, 2024, 10:55 am

Story
A brown dog named Smoke, sent to a high-kill shelter intact, every bone in his little body sticking out, with horrible stomach issues. Red flags everywhere for this owner surrender, who is clearly used to people and indoor life but who also was neglected almost to the point of death. Whatever his history, we are happy to help little Smoke and hopeful that he has put his old life behind him. Within just a few days of regular meals and medications, Smoke started to gain weight. He still struggles with loose stools and will need ongoing care for his sensitive stomach, and patience as he overcomes his food insecurities (Smoke is not food aggressive but he is a bottomless pit who snatches and steals treats like a tiny toothy shark.) For this reason he should not be placed in a home with small children. Smoke is doing well with house training, getting better and better as his hormones work their way out and his stomach issues improve. He is pretty good on leash, great in the car, and not too noisy at all. Although he is very good with cats and is learning to love playing with dogs, Smoke does have moments where he seems to regress into survival mode and starts fights. It's nothing dangerous here as he's just a little guy, but he will need an experienced and understanding family to help him through these issues. As time passes, he makes more and more friends and finds joy in playing and wresting nicely. With his human friends, Smoke just needs a little time to warm up before being a kissy and snuggly sweetheart. He may not be perfect but he sure seems to be trying his best, and he deserves a family of his very own to help him learn to be the best boy! July 20, 2024, 12:14 am

Story
Marcelina was so scared and shutdown upon arrival at her foster home but is making slow, steady progress. She is very attached to her foster and likes to be pet but does NOT like to be picked up. A small dog companion would be a great idea for her in her forever home and could help her to gain trust and confidence. She will need a patient, experienced adopter. Marcelina is very curious but very cautious and not a fan of the cold! She will use potty pads or go outside if weather is decent. Once out there, she likes to romp and spin around! No small kids for this girl. She is untested with cats.

He has typical Chihuahua tude for those Chi lovers. And have we mentioned the cutest little underbite ever?! He's working on house training, sleeps through the night in his crate and walks well on a leash. Tinker is currently living with a trainer. Unfortunately he will need a home with no children Tinker is up-to-date on all his vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped.

Story
Meet Foxy PLEASE NOTE- AN APPLICATION FROM THE WEBSITE ALMOSTHOMEDOGS.ORG IS REQUIRED prior to any meet and greet. Calling, emailing and using the “contact us” link is not useful and will delay your consideration in the adoption of the dog. Petfinder inquires are not sent to us. Foxy is a lot of fun in a tiny package. About 10 pounds, estimated to be about 2 years old. Foxy loves to play with dogs, toys, sticks, and her person. She also loves to run, and is quite fast. She is a little shy with new people, but once she warms up she loves to cuddle. She especially loves her head to be rubbed. She would love to have a doggy playmate, or lots of time with dog friends, as she is very social and playful. Potty trained, but will need reinforcement in a new environment. Does well walking on a leash. APPLY AT ALMOSTHOMEDOGS.ORG (click on the word "Adopt" at top of page to find the dropdown menu with application) The adoption fee is $425, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including age appropriate vaccinations, worming, flea/tick preventative and spay/neuter. Puppies under 6 months of age may go to adoptive homes before they are spayed/neutered with a spay/neuter contract. Adopters who choose to adopt a puppy that has not yet been spayed/neutered are subject to an additional deposit of $100 (refundable upon proof of spay/neuter prior to the contracted date.) Included in the adoption fee, the rescue will arrange spay/neuter by a partner vet at a predetermined appointment when the puppy is between 7-9 months of age. It is the responsibility of the adopter to bring the adopted puppy back to the rescue vet for spaying/neutering or, if they choose, to send verification from their own vet (at the adopter's own cost) that the puppy had been spayed/neutered. All of our dogs will be microchipped. Because our dogs are in foster homes, applications are required prior to setting up any appointments. Calling or emailing may delay your consideration. Find our application on our website, almosthomedogs.org, then click on "Adopt" tab at top We are a non profit no kill 501 (c)3 rescue. Please understand that we do our best to describe our dogs but often we rescue them with virtually no information about them and often our best educated guess can be challenging. Currently check, cash or venmo is preferred payment.
