Story
Young, smart, buffed Ned 🧡 has blossomed in his stable, consistent environment. He is finally ready for a family of his own. His life began as a fearful stray and he's transitioned into a loyal, happy friend. He's a pack pup and prefers the company of dogs and to sleep with his trusted human. He loves his 70lb female foster sister. Approx. 2-3yrs old, neutered, UTD on shots, microchipped, comes when called, takes treats softly, rides in a car well, good with baths, great on leash, uses a dog door, great house manners. His favorite part of the day is running off leash in the forest. He learned to swim a few months ago. He climbs mountains, leaps over logs and gallops through fields. He will bond if you take him on adventures. He is NOT a lap dog. Ned needs a patient human with no small children, an adventure lover and another dog (calm energy/well exercised) willing to welcome a skittish little dude with patience. If you have questions or would like to meet Ned, please fill out an application at hopeshavenfriends.org and his foster mom will make contact. This guy is fantastic and deserves to have the best adventures, lots of love and a safe place to call home. Ned is one of the many fosters that found safety with Hopes Haven apply at www.hopeshavenfriends.org

Story
Introducing Tucker the Explorer! This wonderful boy is a loveable, cute, full of expressions dog looking to become someone's forever companion! He's very well trained - knowing how to stay in a crate, go potty outside, and even go through the doggy door! Tucker is a very chill and low energy dog who enjoys everyone. Sometimes Tucker experiences some anxiety when people leave him to go to work or run errands but that's about the extent of it. Tucker would do well in a household where there are other dogs around to bring out his playful side. Potential adopters should know that Tucker is a velcro dog and will be stuck to your side at all times during the day and night. He loves a good nap with his family! Tucker is currently heartworm positive and being treated, he will be ready for full adoption at the end of April. Don't wait, he will give you a wonderful buddy for LIFE :) Look in his eyes and ADOPT HIM!! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

Story
Grandpa Lucky I have the weirdest name. What is that? "Grandpa Lucky. Sounds like I had a lot of luck in my short life, but I am not quite sure of all that. I just look like a Grandpa because I have lived outside most of the time and it is hard on a fella. I am only about 6 years old we think. First off, I was fished out of a river and taken to the city dog pound. I can't tell you how I got into the river, but foster mom suspects I had a little help with that. Well, it was lucky that I got fished out, but then I went to the city pound where I had 3 days before my time was up...literally. But then I got lucky again because foster mom saw me and just had to have me to foster so I got a ticket out of there. I was a pretty skinny dude when she got me, and it wasn't too long before she discovered that I love to eat. She noticed that I was having a little trouble walking on my back legs and that wasn't so good so when we got me checked out, it turns out that I have a little compression of my T4 to T6 vertebrae, whatever that is. Not good. But the vet lady said that nothing needed to be done for that so that was lucky. So, when I get a little tired, I hop like a bunny and the other times when I feel good, I walk like a regular dog. I had some tests done on my blood and I have worms living in my heart of all places. I am told that is not good. But it is lucky for me that foster mommy is giving me the medicines to kill those little varmints over time and not all at once. She said it is easier on me if we do it this way. Plus, it is lucky that I get the medicine in a little bit of tasty food that I love. Did I tell you I like to eat? About that, foster mommy tells me I can't gain too much weight, or it will be too hard on my joints and back and that won't be good. Aren't I lucky to have her to take care of me? The one complaint I have with foster mommy is that she doesn't have enough time to let me sleep in her lap during the day. I would like to have a lap in my new forever home and someone who will love me as much as foster mommy does. Because of the medicines that I am taking to kill the worms in my heart, we are looking for a forever home in the San Antonio area so I wouldn't have to travel so far. Besides having a lap to sleep in during the day, I want to sleep in the bed with you at night. I can't jump off the bed though but being with you all the time is what I want. Then I would really feel lucky! $200 Local adoption fee (in Texas)

Story
We welcome you to meet Howard the troll! He is an elusive creature, rarely seen unless you try to cross his bridge, or sit at the dining room table that he's living under. Much like a real troll Howard can be somewhat hostile towards humans. Howard would much prefer to be out in wilderness, he honestly could have been a feral cat living in a colony somewhere wild and free. Howard loves other dogs and is great with cats but, unless you are some kind of super human who really works for his love he's likely to avoid you. He’s also much like a teenager who doesn’t want anything to do with you, unless of course he wants something. Howard didn’t have the best start to life, he lived his first few years in a hoarding situation. That is why he feels most comfortable with other animals and thinks humans are jerks. I mean really, can you blame him? With the right super person the best of Howard will come out. Howard needs a home that understands that he may never fully come around, that he won't be their lap dog or snuggle buddy. He would love to just live in a corner of you house, spend time in your yard, play with your dogs and eat your food. If you are looking for an awkward roommate who you only see every now and again, Howard is the weird dude you're looking for!

Story
Sweet pumpkin girl had a really rough start to life which makes her not trust people right away. She so totally wants to be loved. Once she trusts you she will give you little kisses and come up to you. She does not like being picked up but will listen to commands like crate or go inside/out side. She really is a sweet girl. She is great with other dogs and cats. Kids are fine if they don’t chase her. She would love to just hang out with her people.

HEY!! YOU!! LOOK AT ME!! Have you ever seen anything cuter??? Listen, I need a home and you’re lookin’ for a pal so here we are! I’m the one! What are you waiting’ for??? Click on ADOPT and get with it!! I survived a hoarder situation with my 3 siblings, but I came out of it happy and cuddly and friendly. And playful and funny, and I’d love a little playmate pup but no kids cuz I’m scared of being picked up. I think I’m a chihuahua mixed with something bigger so maybe I’ll be about 15 lbs. I’ll be real shy at first, but give me steps and I’ll be up on your lap in no time. Might even sleep with you someday if you’ll let me. Courtesay post for the Helotes Humane Society.
