Story
Whim is a scruffy, sensitive little girl puppy that was rescued out of a California from a homeless individual who could no longer care for her. Whim is a slightly shy puppy who will appreciate a calmer home. She is definitely coming out of her shell this first week and foster and becoming so much more playful and assured of herself. - 5.14 pounds on 2/19/26 and we expect she will be 12-20 pounds full grown but we cannot guarantee size at maturity. - Likely a Chihuahua mix, she is very petite! She has some scruffy fur on her body. - Super playful, funny and entertaining! She's so fast when she runs and plays! - Currently fostered in nurturing foster home with other dogs and gentle people who are giving her lots of love and enrichment. - Prefer a home without rowdy, large breed dogs as she is pretty small and fragile if a big dog was too playful. Calmer big dogs who have lived with small dogs previously are welcome to apply. - Learning potty training but this is still a work in progress as any young puppy would be. Seeking an adopting home who is patient and willing to put in the time to train and socialize a new puppy. Getting a puppy takes a lot of work and we want to ensure puppy adopters are ready for the commitment please. Whim has had her first round puppy vaccine, is microchipped, dewormed and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee includes her spay surgery between 7-12 months old at one of our partner veterinary clinics in SW Portland or Milwaukie. It also includes a free wellness exam at one of our partner clinics in Milwaukie, Oregon City, Portland or Tualatin. $450 adoption fee Fostered in Vancouver, Washington APPLY TO ADOPT WHIM ON OUR WEBSITE: WWW.AGAVEDOGS.ORG

Story
Pepe is a 12yr old and needs a home where he can be the center of attention. Preferably with a female and no other animals. He has been a family pet, but primarily our daughter's dog. She has taken very good care of him but has moved out of state and is unable to bring him with her. Pepe was a rescue dog at 6 mo., while he had a hard start in life he has been spoiled with lots of love. He shared our home with a couple of other pups who have since gone over the rainbow bridge. We now have a 1 1/2 year old pup and if you can imaging pup energy with a senior dog some days are a challenge. Pepe does enjoy short walks, and 1 to 1 attention and would thrive with someone who would focus only on him.

Story
Sweet 9 year old rescue looking for a new home that can give her full attention. She has lived with dogs and cats and gets along with both. It can take her a moment to warm up to new people. She does better with people who are calm and can let her come to them. For this reason she is looking for a home with no kids or older kids who understand dog behavior. She loves being outside especially if there is a good squirrel to chase. She is also leash trained and loves to go on adventures to new areas.

Story
Buffy is perhaps the cutest, super buff little lady ever! She was a bodybuilder in her past life for sure. She loves other dogs and is currently fostering with multiple pups and humans, too. Buffy was VERY shy of humans and would hide away, but now she likes to hang around and even sleep in a human bed. She is ready to start receiving affection soon but has been hands off for the most part. Buffy needs a patient person to bring her out of her shell the rest of the way. She is spayed and vaccinated. If you are interested in Buffy and would like to give her a try, please contact colleen@startrescue.org Her adopter will need immediate access to a secure yard straight from their back door, AND another dog to help show Buffy the way! Buffy is 2 years old and we adore here and you will too. Contact Colleen@startrescue.org to meet her in Portland, OR.

Story
Fancy is a 2-year-old Chihuahua–Terrier mix with a heart as big as her adorable underbite. She’s a super sweet, cuddly girl who absolutely loves being held and snuggling up in your lap. If you’re looking for a true couch companion, Fancy is your girl. She’s currently thriving in a foster home with high-energy kids and does wonderfully with them—she loves children, enjoys sleeping with them, and happily joins them at bedtime. Fancy has also lived in a home with large dogs and gets along great, and she would do well with other small dogs too. That said, Fancy would be just as happy being your one-and-only, especially with a single person or older adult looking for a loving, loyal companion. Her scruffy fur and cutest little underbite only add to her charm. Fancy is affectionate, adaptable, and ready to bring lots of love to her forever home. 🐾💖 Application: https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/6939c8f9ee48add5a607c037 Questions? We travel to WA, UT, OR, ID, VA, PA, OH, NY, CT, VT and Canada (Canadian adopters will need to pick up in Bellingham, WA  or Brattleboro, VT for the eastern Canadian border)! Our pups travel in comfort with 24/7 care on our USDA licensed vehicles, including buses and cargo vans. You can join along on our private Facebook event page to follow their adventure, connecting you with other adopters and providing updates throughout their transport journey!   You will get to meet your new pup over a video call before signing paperwork, creating a fun and personalized adoption experience!    The adoption fee is $1,600 and includes all vetting (DAPP with booster, Bordetella, Rabies vaccine, multiple broad spectrum deworming treatments, spay/neuter, flea prevention, a 12 month heartworm preventative injectable, heartworm test and treatment if needed, a microchip with free lifetime registration, a high quality nylon Martingale collar, a health certificate deeming the pup healthy for travel, cost of transport*, and priceless years of love and loyal companionship!    We have over 15,000 successful adoptions so far and have excellent Google Reviews: https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about making the perfect match between dog and family for long term success.    Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!    Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond.   Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.    The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.   It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS:   Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family  Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions  70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer  Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup!   Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Story
* Now fostered in NH* This cutie is Sweetie. She is around 5 months old and we think they may be a Chihuahua mix*, but with rescue it’s a guess! What matters most is that they are adorable and are one the MOST desperate in the entire US based on statistics for where this puppy is from. Shelters in this area are having to euthanize puppies. So, this puppy needs you! If you choose a puppy from us, it saves their life as well as the life of another in its place. Watch Sweetie playful personality here: https://youtu.be/nAT2SCRJED0?si=8PAcS7NB5KVebkN5 Sweetie is playful, sweet, curious, and cuddly. She loves to play with her siblings and take lots of naps. Eat, sleep, play, repeat- such is puppy life! We pride ourselves in being able to give you good personality and behavioral information to help ensure this baby is the right fit for you. You are also welcome to do a Facetime call to meet your new baby before signing paperwork! Sweetie is still very young and will need a family that can commit to training, socialization and all the dedication puppyhood requires. A puppy is discovering new things that shape their personalities with each passing day. Implementing routine, structure, setting boundaries, and proper socialization is key from the start. We require a commitment from adoptive families to crate train their new puppy starting immediately when arriving at their new home, which will help with potty training, energy management, and the overall development of a well-rounded adult dog. You will be guaranteed to get lots of kisses in return from your new best friend! Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life?
