Story
Fiesta is an adorable, little girl who loves to be your shadow, following you around the house and to play with toys! We rescued Fiesta from a crowded shelter in California. - Estimated to be 2 years old and 15 pounds - Possibly a Chihuahua/Dachschund mix. She has a long body and short legs. - Bonds quickly to women. Is not adverse to men but she generally will pick a woman as her favorite person. - Fostered with 6 other small dogs and does great with them - Likely fine with cats but we have not officially tested her - Kids ages 10+ if there are children in the home - Has had excellent potty habits and foster and seems fairly well potty trained Fiesta is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, heartworm tested negative and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee includes a free wellness exam at our partner veterinary clinic in Oregon City, Milwaukie, Portland or Tualatin. $400 adoption fee Fostered in Vancouver, Washington APPLY TO ADOPT FIESTA ON OUR WEBSITE: WWW.AGAVEDOGS.ORG

Story
Maddie is a resilient little dog that was rescued out of California and suffered a bad case of mange back in August 2024 when she was first rescued. She's all healed up now and so much better off! Maddie is a happy, outgoing dog yet she had been waiting with little adoption interest in California for over a year. We decided to bring her up to Oregon for a better chance at landing a loving home. - Approximately 2 years old and 18 pounds - Likely a Chihuahua mix - Loves people, social, and greets everyone with wiggly body languages, bouncing and a wagging tail - Does good with other dogs and has lived with a variety of dogs and done well. She does need to be fed her meals in her crate during meal time as she can get a little snarky if other dogs approach while she is eating. But she has developed a good routine with this and is used to having her space in a crate to dine. She can take treats from the humans and shares her toys well with other dogs. It's just meals. - Does well with children and has been around gentle kids as young as 2 years old and has been appropriate. - We don’t quite have an assessment of Maddie with cats. Her only interaction was seeing feral cats and she barked at this. We will try to get a formal cat assessment on her. - Does excellent with her potty habits Maddie is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention and heartworm tested negative. Her adoption fee includes a free wellness exam at one of our partner veterinary clinics in Oregon City, Milwaukie, Tualatin or Portland. $400 adoption fee Fostered in West Linn, Oregon APPLY TO ADOPT MADDIE ON OUR WEBSITE: WWW.AGAVEDOGS.ORG

Story
George was dumped in an orchard in rural California with a group of small dogs. A rescue partner of ours there, rescued the whole tiny pack and steadily got them all adopted. All except George who was on the shyer side so he kept getting passed up. George has been waiting just over a year to find a home and during that time he worked consistently with a dog trainer to build his confidence and skills. George is doing great now! *** George's perfect home would be one with a single lady who wants a little dog to dote on her and be her little shadow. George has lived with a man before but tended to bark at the man in the home so we feel he would do best in a woman only home. He has been friendly with male visitors though and he is not aggressive, he just barks and then will retreat if there is a man living in the home. Young children also make George nervous so we would like to find him a home without young children. *** - Approximately 2 years old and 12 pounds - Likely a Chihuahua mix - Calm, regal little guy who is polite and curious about people, other dogs and all the new things to see in a household setting. He just enjoyed snuggling on a bed and a couch for this first time and loved it! - Slightly shy and is learning to enjoy petting and handling. George has never shown aggression when being handled though and he's a gentle guy. He is good for handling during nail trims and also at the vet for care. - Has lived with other dogs and does well but can also be content as an only dog - No cats for George - Kids ages 12+ if there are kids in the home - Excellent potty habits - Crate trained. Can sleep in his crate at night quietly or would love to sleep in the bed with you! - Loves his walks and walks easy on leash - Likes to play fetch and also enjoy various little toys - Snuggle buddy and is loving getting to burrow into blankets - Good for car rides George is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, microchipped, dewormed and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. His adoption fee also includes a free wellness exam at one of our partner veterinary clinics in Oregon City, Milwaukie, Portland or Tualatin. $150 adoption fee Fostered in Oregon City, Oregon APPLY TO ADOPT GEORGE ON OUR WEBSITE: WWW.AGAVEDOGS.ORG

Story
Meet Nacho! Nacho is a 3 year old, tiny, bundle of love (4 lbs) searching for the perfect family! Like many dogs, Nacho grew up on the streets of Mexico. He is also insanely adorable and bursting with a big silly personality. Nacho loves making and playing with new dog friends and playing with his toys too. He LOVES to be warm and comfortable, and he is potty trained too! He's an adventurous explorer, always discovering new things around the house and backyard with keen curiosity. He doesnt need walks and he simply loves being in a safe house with a yard. He’s still learning to express his affection with humans and we know from experience that with time, he WILL eventually allow himself to be loved, pet, and snuggled. For now, it is hands off and encouragement with treats and kindness. Nacho is looking for a home where his people will give him time, and let him come to them when he is ready! He is neutered, vaccinated, and ready to begin his new life. Please do not apply unless you understand that he needs TIME. By that, we mean weeks or even months. Some take longer than others...some tame up real fast! If you are interested, please contact colleen@startrescue.org

Story
Prepare to have your heart melted! Meet Tostada “Toasty” McNugget, a charming and resilient 10 pound, approx 4-month-old puppy. Toasty is pure joy with a sweet, snuggly personality. His huge, expressive ears are captivating, and his sparse fur and bare belly suggest he may be part Mexican Hairless in addition to his obvious adorable Chihuahua, the shelter thought he may be part Doxie too! The shelter he was brought to as a stray thought the scarring on his muzzle was from his fellow liter mates as often will happen when there is a scarcity of food. It doesn’t bother him at all, and we think his scars give this handsome boy a ton of character—think Harrison Ford or Jason Mamoa. Toasty is a confident boy, unfazed by most things! He is calm when meeting new people, is totally chill riding shotgun on errands, shopping, or exploring new terrain – even the torrential rain hasn’t dampened his spirits! Toasty plays exceptionally well with both dogs and cats, and he would love to join a home with another animal or two! He's obsessed with squeaker toys, loves fetch, and is extremely food-motivated. Toasty is ready to bring endless love and laughter to his forever home! Whether you’re relaxing at home or adventuring out-of-doors, this pup is ready to fill your life with endless giggles and undying affection!  Whomever adopts this lovely pup is going to be one lucky adopter! The other details: Puppies will be spayed/neutered at the approropiate time at one of our contracted Veternary Clinics. They will be microchipped and up to date on all vaccinations and preventatives. Underdogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. Adoption fee is $450 and covers on going vaccines and spay/neuter.  Toasty is being fostered in Longview, WA.
