Story
Melbourne is typical of many small breed dogs we rescue - reserved with strangers and shy initially but if given the time to blossom, really bonds with her person, is affectionate and cuddly. She will need a patient person willing to give her a few days in the home that are low pressure and allow her to warm up. She is not aggressive, just shy. - 17 pounds and approximately 2 years old - Possibly a Chihuahua mix - Fenced yard preferred - Rescued after being dumped with a group of small dogs in a rural California orchard. The whole group was trapped and rescued out of the orchard by our rescue partner before something bad happened to them. - Medium to lower energy level - Good with other dogs or could be fine solo. She is fairly indifferent to other dogs and more interested in bonding with humans. - Good with cats. Fostered with two cats and is polite and does not bother them. - Kids ages 12+ if there are kids in the home, only because she can be skittish and overwhelmed by a busy, noisier home. - Doing excellent with her potty habits and no potty accidents in foster when kept on a structured routine of taking her out to potty. - Comfortable in her crate. Goes in on her own to nap and sees it as a cozy, safe place. - Toy enthusiast! Loves to play with her toys. - Very smart girl who would benefit from someone willing to provide enrichment, chew toys, puzzle toys, and engage her. - Enjoys cuddling in bed or on the couch with her person. Will roll over for belly scratches. Melbourne has so much potential and has been in foster with us building her skills since January 4th. She's improved by leaps and bounds and just needs a nurturing, dog savvy person to help her continue to build confidence. Spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, heartworm tested negative, and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Adoption fee also includes a free wellness exam at one of our four partner veterinary clinics. $400 adoption fee Fostered in Milwaukie, Oregon APPLY TO ADOPT MELBOURNE ON OUR WEBSITE: WWW.AGAVEDOGS.ORG

Buffy is perhaps the cutest, super buff little lady ever! She was a bodybuilder in her past life for sure. She loves other dogs and is currently fostering with multiple pups and humans too. Buffy was VERY shy of humans and would hide away, but now she likes to hang around and even sleep in a human bed. She is ready to start receiving affection soon but has been hands off for the most part. Buffy needs a patient savior to be her roommate and eventually her BFF! She is spayed and vaccinated. If you are interested in Buffy and would like to give her a try, please contact colleen@startrescue.org Her adopter will need immediate access to a secure yard straight from their back door, AND another dog to help show Buffy the way! Buffy is 1.5 years old.

Story
Meet Nacho! Nacho is a 3 year old, tiny, bundle of love (4 lbs) searching for the perfect family! Like many dogs, Nacho grew up on the streets of Mexico. He is also insanely adorable and bursting with a big silly personality. Nacho loves making and playing with new dog friends and playing with his toys too. He LOVES to be warm and comfortable, and he is potty trained too! He's an adventurous explorer, always discovering new things around the house and backyard with keen curiosity. He doesnt need walks and he simply loves being in a safe house with a yard. He’s still learning to express his affection with humans and we know from experience that with time, he WILL eventually allow himself to be loved, pet, and snuggled. For now, it is hands off and encouragement with treats and kindness. Nacho is looking for a home where his people will give him time, and let him come to them when he is ready! He is neutered, vaccinated, and ready to begin his new life. Please do not apply unless you understand that he needs TIME. By that, we mean weeks or even months. Some take longer than others...some tame up real fast! If you are interested, please contact colleen@startrescue.org

Story
Meet Paco — the pint-sized adventurer with the floppiest ears, a heart full of love, and the sweetest little smile you’ve ever seen! 🌞 This tiny chihuahua-terrier mix (your guess is as good as ours — rescue magic at its finest!) is about 2 years young and ready to find his forever person. He’s got this perfect tan-red coat that practically glows in the sunshine, and eyes so big and brown they could melt a popsicle in January. Paco may be small, but his personality has layers like a fancy little dog burrito — soft, spicy, and a little shy at first taste. He’s the kind of boy who takes his time to trust new people, but once he does? He’s your best buddy, loyal nap partner, and possibly your personal shadow. He’s incredibly sweet with his foster parents and just needs someone patient enough to let him open up on his own timeline. Watch Paco swim, run, and play in his video! https://youtu.be/qFgaypcolVw?si=PEJbzdl6SNG8mebe He currently lives with three foster dog siblings who he absolutely adores! They go on road trips, vacations, and adventures together — from zooming around the yard to swimming in beautiful spots (yes, this little guy swims!). With other dogs, he’s gentle and polite, preferring to observe before joining the fun. Once he’s comfortable, he’ll do cute little runs and play sessions, but he’s not a roughhouser. Paco would do best with a low to medium-energy dog friend who will let him come around naturally — no pushy pups, please! When it comes to cats, Paco is what we’d call “cat curious but cautious.” He met a calm kitty named Biggie and did great — a little nervous, but respectful and tolerant. A chill, dog-savvy cat who doesn’t mind a nervous little dog would be perfectly fine for him. As for kids, Paco hasn’t been officially kid-tested yet, but given how shy he can be, he’d probably prefer a calm, adult home or one with older, dog-savvy teens who understand that good things (and tail wags) take time. This little man is not cut out for apartment living — he’s more of a “quiet home with a yard” type of guy. New noises, fast movements, and big groups of people can overwhelm him. He’ll thrive in a peaceful home with gentle routines, understanding humans, and maybe a friendly dog to help show him the ropes. Paco is still learning that the world isn’t so scary — and with patience, kindness, and a sprinkle of humor, you’ll see his shy side melt away into the most loving, loyal little companion. Once his tail comes up and that tiny smile shows, it’s over for you. You’ll be in love. 💛 Paco’s dream home? Somewhere calm, cozy, and full of love. Someone who doesn’t mind going slow at first but can imagine the joy of watching a timid rescue bloom into his goofy, snuggly, happy self. Because once you earn Paco’s trust — it’s forever.
