Story
Maddie is a resilient little dog that was rescued out of California and suffered a bad case of mange back in August 2024 when she was first rescued. She's all healed up now and so much better off! Maddie is a happy, outgoing dog yet she had been waiting with little adoption interest in California for over a year. We decided to bring her up to Oregon for a better chance at landing a loving home. - Approximately 2 years old and 18 pounds - Likely a Chihuahua mix - Loves people, social, and greets everyone with wiggly body languages, bouncing and a wagging tail - Does good with other dogs and has lived with a variety of dogs and done well. She does need to be fed her meals in her crate during meal time as she can get a little snarky if other dogs approach while she is eating. But she has developed a good routine with this and is used to having her space in a crate to dine. She can take treats from the humans and shares her toys well with other dogs. It's just meals. - Does well with children and has been around gentle kids as young as 2 years old and has been appropriate. - We don’t quite have an assessment of Maddie with cats. Her only interaction was seeing feral cats and she barked at this. We will try to get a formal cat assessment on her. - Does excellent with her potty habits Maddie is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention and heartworm tested negative. Her adoption fee includes a free wellness exam at one of our partner veterinary clinics in Oregon City, Milwaukie, Tualatin or Portland. $300 adoption fee Fostered in West Linn, Oregon APPLY TO ADOPT MADDIE ON OUR WEBSITE: WWW.AGAVEDOGS.ORG

Story
George was dumped in an orchard in rural California with a group of small dogs. A rescue partner of ours there, rescued the whole tiny pack and steadily got them all adopted. All except George who was on the shyer side so he kept getting passed up. George has been waiting just over a year to find a home and during that time he worked consistently with a dog trainer to build his confidence and skills. George is doing great now! *** George's perfect home would be one with a single lady who wants a little dog to dote on her and be her little shadow. George has lived with a man before but tended to bark at the man in the home so we feel he would do best in a woman only home. He has been friendly with male visitors though and he is not aggressive, he just barks and then will retreat if there is a man living in the home. Young children also make George nervous so we would like to find him a home without young children. *** - Approximately 2 years old and 12 pounds - Likely a Chihuahua mix - Calm, regal little guy who is polite and curious about people, other dogs and all the new things to see in a household setting. He just enjoyed snuggling on a bed and a couch for this first time and loved it! - Slightly shy and is learning to enjoy petting and handling. George has never shown aggression when being handled though and he's a gentle guy. He is good for handling during nail trims and also at the vet for care. - Has lived with other dogs and does well but can also be content as an only dog - No cats for George - Kids ages 12+ if there are kids in the home - Excellent potty habits - Crate trained. Can sleep in his crate at night quietly or would love to sleep in the bed with you! - Loves his walks and walks easy on leash - Likes to play fetch and also enjoy various little toys - Snuggle buddy and is loving getting to burrow into blankets - Good for car rides George is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, microchipped, dewormed and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. His adoption fee also includes a free wellness exam at one of our partner veterinary clinics in Oregon City, Milwaukie, Portland or Tualatin. $150 adoption fee Fostered in Oregon City, Oregon APPLY TO ADOPT GEORGE ON OUR WEBSITE: WWW.AGAVEDOGS.ORG

Story
Buffy is perhaps the cutest, super buff little lady ever! She was a bodybuilder in her past life for sure. She loves other dogs and is currently fostering with multiple pups and humans too. Buffy was VERY shy of humans and would hide away, but now she likes to hang around and even sleep in a human bed. She is ready to start receiving affection soon but has been hands off for the most part. Buffy needs a patient savior to be her roommate and eventually her BFF! She is spayed and vaccinated. If you are interested in Buffy and would like to give her a try, please contact colleen@startrescue.org Her adopter will need immediate access to a secure yard straight from their back door, AND another dog to help show Buffy the way! Buffy is 1.5 years old.

Story
Meet Nacho! Nacho is a 3 year old, tiny, bundle of love (4 lbs) searching for the perfect family! Like many dogs, Nacho grew up on the streets of Mexico. He is also insanely adorable and bursting with a big silly personality. Nacho loves making and playing with new dog friends and playing with his toys too. He LOVES to be warm and comfortable, and he is potty trained too! He's an adventurous explorer, always discovering new things around the house and backyard with keen curiosity. He doesnt need walks and he simply loves being in a safe house with a yard. He’s still learning to express his affection with humans and we know from experience that with time, he WILL eventually allow himself to be loved, pet, and snuggled. For now, it is hands off and encouragement with treats and kindness. Nacho is looking for a home where his people will give him time, and let him come to them when he is ready! He is neutered, vaccinated, and ready to begin his new life. Please do not apply unless you understand that he needs TIME. By that, we mean weeks or even months. Some take longer than others...some tame up real fast! If you are interested, please contact colleen@startrescue.org

You can join along on our private Facebook event page to follow their adventure, connecting you with other adopters and providing updates throughout their transport journey!   You will get to meet your new pup over a video call before signing paperwork, creating a fun and personalized adoption experience!    The adoption fee is $1,200 and includes all vetting (DAPP with booster, Bordetella, Rabies vaccine, multiple broad spectrum deworming treatments, spay/neuter, flea prevention, a 12 month heartworm preventative injectable, heartworm test and treatment if needed, a microchip with free lifetime registration, a high quality nylon Martingale collar, a health certificate deeming the pup healthy for travel, cost of transport*, and priceless years of love and loyal companionship!    We have over 15,000 successful adoptions so far and have excellent Google Reviews: https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about making the perfect match between dog and family for long term success.    Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!    Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond.   Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.    The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.   It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS:   Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family  Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions  70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer  Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup!   Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!   Follow our rescue journey and connect with us on our website and social media platforms.
