Story
Her name is Carmen, and she`s a 4YO Chihuahua mix who came into the shelter as a stray on 11/29/22. She only weighs about 22 lbs and is the PERFECT size for cuddling. She`s actually looking to beef up her cuddle resume - both to attract potential adopters and for her own pleasure. She LOVES cuddles and just wants to be around people. Carmen is endearingly shy and awkward at times, but give her a moment to warm up or a pet or two and her amazing personality shines though. She loves treats and walks great on a leash. She has a lower energy level and wants to focus most of her energy on being with you…she will occasionally jog a lap or two though. She`d do best in a home where she`d be the only dog and where the people are understanding about her being protective of her food.

Story
He may be a small dog, but he packs a big punch of love! Punch is a 4YO Chihuahua who came into the shelter as a stray on 3/22/23. He`s a good, sweet boy, who walks well on a leash and appreciates being pet and sitting in your lap. If he sees a chair he`s likely to hop right up on it and sit like a little gentleman! He`s got a lower energy level and seem to already be potty trained.

Story
Everyone loves small dogs, so it`s a mystery how this handsome little cutie doesn`t have a line out the door waiting on him! He defiantly had an owner at some point as he came in already neutered, but unfortunately no one came looking for him when he came in as a stray without owner information. Lync seems to be already potty trained. He walks gently on a leash and has a lower energy level. He`s very friendly and loves attention!

Story
Hello, my name is Nelly and I'm a 2 year, 15 pound snuggle bug! My foster mom says I'm a very sweet, calm girl! I guess you can say If you are looking for a well mannered girl, I'm a that girl! I'm not a jumper and will sit for treats. I'm not much of a barker, unless I'm trying to say hello to passing dogs outside. I'm in a home with kids and other dogs, and I do great! I am spayed, microchipped and up to date on all my shots. My adoption fee is $250 locally in Houston, TX or $550 out of state (includes Heath cert and transport fee). Needs special attention, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
AJ is located in TEXAS. He is available for local adoption or adoption and transport to another state. There are not enough homes for all the unwanted dogs down here, so he is willing to relocate for a good, loving, forever home. X-Rays show that AJ has back problems and needs a daily anti-inflammatory (Meloxidyl). He needs this medication every day. He also needs dog steps to get on and off furniture and a bit of care when he is picked up to avoid hurting his back. Applicants must be able to afford his medication (which is not expensive) and be able to take him to the vet as needed. AJ was an owner surrender. The son fell on hard times and left AJ with his parents. The parents wanted to rehome him because they had financial problems of their own and because he was not housetrained. However, we have not had any problems with him going potty in the house. He goes to the door when he wants out. AJ is a very handsome chihuahua weighing 10 pounds. He is an older guy, maybe around 8 years of age. AJ is a very good boy and not a stereotypical chihuahua. He is wary of new people but warms up with time. AJ is crate-trained and well-behaved in the house. He rides well in the vehicle, walks well on a leash, and comes when called. AJ is fairly quiet, he only barks when he wants to come back in the house after he goes outside. He spends most of his time lying on the couch or in his bed. He does like treats. And we think he was playing a little bit with our poodle. He does get bossy and will try to dominate the larger male dogs. One of our large males did get mad at him and cuffed him to put him in his place. So we would recommend that he not be allowed to interact with larger dogs that might hurt him. AJ is fine with other small dogs and would probably also do well with cats. AJ is small and delicate and must be protected from rough treatment by children or big dogs that could hurt him. He must also be protected from raptors and other outdoor predators. AJ must be in the house as a loved member of the family. He must be walked on a leash and would like a fenced yard to run and play. AJ is healthy. He is neutered, fully vaccinated (DAPPvL2, Bordatella, rabies), and microchipped. AJ is heartworm negative and on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. He had a dental and his 4 upper incisors had to be removed. The rest of his teeth were in good shape. We would really love AJ to have a fabulous forever home and we will consider both local and out-of-state applications. His out-of-state adoption fee only covers the cost of his transport to the northeast, pacific northwest, or Toronto Canada. He is being fostered in Texas and we do not have the resources to send him north until after he is adopted. Story
Rafie has an est. dob of 10/21/2020, approximately 14 lbs, terrier mix, neutered, chipped, heartworm negative, and UTD on vaccinations We’ll let him tell a bit about himself: I love having other dogs to play with , a kennel that helps me feel safe and comfortable when they go out or when it’s bed time, and lots of toys I can chew on and chase after! I’m potty trained and walk well on a leash. I have the softest coat you have ever felt, and a silly 'mane' that's super soft too! I would love a forever home with another dog to play with and I'll even happily share my food and treats with my new friend. I haven't been around little kids, but my human teenaged foster siblings are pretty cool too! Can I come live with you? Forever? Rafie is in a foster home with other small dogs that he does well with. Rafie would do best in a home with older children and someone home a majority of the time. He can be a little slow to warm up but once he’s comfortable, he’s very affectionate! $200 (including tax) adoption fee includes core vaccinations, rabies vaccination, heart worm test (in dogs over 6 months of age), microchip and registration, spay/neuter, wormer and flea and heart worm prevention while the dog is in our care. All breed and size categorizations are estimates. Please consider making this handsome boy a member of your family. As we are a foster based rescue, we do require a completed application to be submitted before we arrange a meet.  This can be found on our website at :  https://almosthomepetrescue.org/apply-now-1  May 31, 2023, 7:21 pm

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
I was brought into BARC after getting hit by a car. It hurt my hip and leg but I REFUSE to give up walking. I am a VERY determined little girl. The doctors decided not to operate but they did recommend that I see a rehabilitation vet. My foster mommy takes me outside every day and I show her how well I am walking. I am now healed but still walk a little funny.

Story
I am a young (2 years) and outgoing little guy, rescued from the scary shelter. I like to play with other dogs, and would do best in a home without small children (under 10 years old). I have not met any cats. I love walks, toys and snuggling for movie night.
