Story
From Dulce De Leche`s foster mom:She is very loving once she is comfortable but snippy when afraid. Her original owner died and Dulce was left on the property without food or water for about 2 weeks. She was very fearful and did not do well at BARC.Dulce has advanced heartworm disease and enlarged heart. BARC says she`s too old to do the normal heartworm treatment. took her to an outside vet (River Flow Vet Hospital), they agree with BARC`s diagnosis. The vet prescribed 2 meds to keep her comfortable, telling me Dulce will need to stay on these meds the rest of her life. The vet added cough tabs to her prescription. Please email BARCFOSTER@houstontx.gov for more information on how to meet this golden girl!

Story
Beignet - Chi/Dachshund mix - Female - 8 Months - www.twyla.org If you'd like to know more about this dog please visit our website at www.Twyla.org Meet Beignet: This adorable 8-month-old female Chihuahua/Dachshund mix joined out program due to the diligence and persistence of local rescuers who trapped her and her sister (Roux) behind a local Drugstore after they had been spotted abandoned there and where too shy to come directly to the rescuers - as far as trapping goes, this rescue was pretty quick and easy, they were ready to be rescued! Beignet is still a little shy when meeting new people, but thanks to her sister and the other dogs in the foster home, she is quickly learning the house rules and routines, she loves to play with other dogs, is checking out toys and LOVEs snuggling on the sofa. She does not yet love being crated (at this time for private meals only) and is still learning the concept of walking on leash, but she is smart and sweet and wants to learn. Oh, and she loves treats, so that helps. Beignet is looking for a home with another dog for her to play with and the learn from, someone with experience with shy dogs would be a bonus, she'll need a little patience in the beginning. She will repay kindness with snuggles and entertainment. ***Please note: All dogs are fostered in private homes of volunteers, so to meet a dog please fill out an Adoption Application on our website (http://www.twyla.org/adopt/our-adoption-process) so we may setup a private meetup with the dog or coordinate for an Introduction at the next general Adoption Meet and Greet (as listed on our website: (http://www.twyla.org/upcoming-events), as not all dogs attend all Meet and Greets***

Roux - Chi/Terrier Mix - Female - 8 Months- www.twyla.org If you'd like to know more about this dog please visit our website at www.Twyla.org Meet Roux: This adorable 8-month-old female Chihuahua/Terrier mix joined our program due to the diligence and persistence of local rescuers who trapped her and her sister (Beignet) behind a local Drugstore after they had been spotted abandoned there and where too shy to come directly to the rescuers - as far as trapping goes, this rescue was pretty quick and easy, they were ready to be rescued! Roux is sweet and curious, a little shy when first meeting new people, but curious enough to quickly get over that and accept pets and snuggles. Roux loves playing with other dogs, and is learning a lot from them, like house rules and routines, how to best snuggle with her person and playtime with toys. As a developing puppy, she loves to chew on antlers. She does not yet love being crated (she will eat in her crate but then protests confinement as soon as the meal is finished) and is also not yet a fan of the leash, as she has not yet learned  of the opportunities available to her when leash walking has been accomplished, but she is smart and learns quickly. Living with another dog who can show her how its done is a huge bonus. Roux is looking for a family with another playful dog, preferably with someone who is home a lot that can help her with leash walking and confidence.

Story
If you would like more information about Professor X or are interested in adopting him, please send an email to mhussey91@gmail.com or contact this number, 505-681-1161 Hey there, I’m Professor X, but you can call me PX for short. I’m not just your average pup – I’m a Xolo/husky mix with a brown brindle coat that makes heads turn wherever I go. At 1.5 years young and weighing in at a solid 47 lbs, I’m the perfect blend of energy and snuggles. I am a bit skittish around new people but with the right approach and plenty of tasty treats, I’m learning to strut my stuff like the confident pup I know I can be. When I’m not out exploring the world, you can usually find me lounging on the couch, soaking up all the cuddles and belly rubs I can get. Oh, and did I mention I’m a pro at fetch? Seriously, throw a ball my way, and I’ll fetch it like nobody’s business. I’ve been hitting up doggy daycare since I was a wee pup, and let me tell you, I’m kind of a big deal there. The staff love me, and I love them right back. So what do you say? Ready to take on the adventure of a lifetime with yours truly, Professor X This animal posted is not under the care, custody, or control of Friends For Life and shall at no time be considered the property of Friends For Life. Story
Fizzy Pop may not be the youngest dog in the shelter but he is striving for the title of most active. He was adopted and returned because his family couldn't keep up with his energy. He's no couch potato and likes car rides, tugging, toys, walks, water, and chase. He is well behaved on a leash. He hasn't lived with a dog but he is learning how to behave at the dog park and likes to politely bark at dogs he sees during walks. He has experience with a toddler and was friendly, playful, jumpy, mouthy and rough. He might be more suitable for older children. He knows the sit and down commands. He is house trained and always had free roam of the house. He'll whine when he needs to go out. He got into trouble for jumping and barking. Being still and quiet is not his thing. He is needed and never wants to be alone. He is affectionate and likes being petted. He is excitable and curious. Please offer cute Fizzy Pop the active family and home he needs. (tw 4/21/2024)
