Story
Duke wandered up to a Texaco truck stop terminal in downtown Houston. He had significant bite wounds on the left side and the top of his neck. It looked like perhaps a big dog had grabbed him. He was not wearing a collar and ID tag and he did not have a microchip. Duke came to Emmy's Hope Rescue in June 2020. Duke is sweet, happy-go-lucky and affectionate with people he knows.  He is very hesitant and untrusting of dogs he doesn’t know. He prefers small, female dogs and tends to get defensive with males, particularly if they are big. After he warms up, and feels comfortable, he's ready to run and play. Duke is very curious and has a high energy level. Duke does best with a familiar daily routine, so he knows what to expect. He needs a family that’s experienced with nervous, energetic dogs.                                                                                                                        Estimated birth date:  June 2019 Approximate weight:  11 lbs. If you would like to meet Duke, please call or text Stephanie at: 281-622-6549. *** ADOPTION  CRITERIA *** To qualify to adopt from Emmy's Hope Rescue, YOU MUST HAVE ALL 4 QUALIFIERS: 1. Live in the Houston area (no more than an hour's drive away). 2. Be 21 years or older. 3. Have a fenced yard. Fencing must touch the ground all the way around the yard. 4. We are looking for experienced pet owners. You must have at least 3 years of good vet history, with your current and / or past dogs. Your vet record should show that you take your dog(s) to the vet annually for an exam and to update their Rabies and DHPP (distemper, parvo) vaccinations and heartworm testing, and that you purchase a monthly heartworm preventative.April 14, 2024, 5:43 pm

I AM BONDED WITH PIXIE AND PADDY. WE MUST BE ADOPTED TOGETHER!Hi,We are Penny, Pixie and Paddy. We spent our whole life in a small crate, outside 24/7. Let's just say that our "owners" weren't very good at having pets...We were rescued by the good people of Houston Animal Rescue Team - HART and as hard as it's going to be, we are looking for a home all together. We aren't cute puppies anymore and we are of course heartworm positive. That gives us very little chance to find a forever home.To meet us, please fill out an adoption application on https://www.hartrescue.com/adoption-foster-application-formTo meet me, please fill out an adoption application on https://www.hartrescue.com/adoption-process

Story
Sweet Pal was found as a stray with Pocket. These two little guys are easy going, and very polite. They very rarely bark and just ask for a cozy bed and a few trips outside to sniff around. They would be the perfect companion for a retired family looking for companionship. To meet me, please fill out an adoption application on https://www.hartrescue.com/adoption-process

Story
Dexter was pulled from the euthanasia list. He is a snuggle bug who loves cheese. He’s great with small dogs but challenges bigger dogs. He’s fine with cats and kids. He alerts when he needs to go outside but if you miss his alert, he doesn’t hesitate to let you know he’s unhappy. If you are looking for a mini shadow, this is your guy.

Story
Queso was a return to the pound. He’s very shy, quiet and nervous. He’s come out of his shell and gained some confidence during his time at the rescue. He needs a home with someone patient and experienced with dogs. He gets along with other dogs, cats and kids but we would prefer an adult home where he would be the only dog.

Story
Cami is a tiny, petite, dog (about 9 pounds).......light as a feather to swoop up into your arms.    Are you looking for a small dog? Are you looking for a dog who doesn't need a lot of long walks, but can exercise right in your house by chasing balls?  Cami's your girl.  Do you want a small dog you can dress up?  Cami looks cute in a doggie T-shirt.  Do you want a dog that doesn't eat a lot  or take up much room in a car?  Look no further.  If you want only one dog to pour your attention into, Cami's it.  She would love to be an only dog. Do you want a young dog?  Cami is only about two years old.  Have you ever wanted to be the angel who gives a dog a better life?  Come to Cami's rescue and fill out an application to meet this cute little sprite. She was picked up as a stray, but is now spayed, up to date on vaccines and ready for her forever home.  Typical of Chihuahuas, Cami is cautious and nervous with strangers and new situations.  When scared, she can be snappy to other dogs or children, so best to be in a home with no children or ones over the age of 10.  She is currently doing okay, however, in a home with five other dogs. On leash Cami keeps up a nice pace, but does not pull.  She loves a good walk, but at the end of the walk, she races back up the driveway to the gate as she loves to stay close to home (her familiar surroundings).    As a dog that probably lived mostly outside, she is slowly being introduced to house manners, and toys.  She is already crate trained, and sleeps in her crate all night long.  She is not a barker.  Except when she might whine for attention (or food), she is very quiet. Give her a lap to curl up in and she'll be happy.  April 25, 2024, 9:08 pm

Story
Meet Luna! Special needs. . .or just plain special? Meet Luna, a 13-week-old female Chihuahua puppy who weighs in at just over six pounds. Luna got off to a rough start in life: Weakened, sick, and starving, she was thrown into a ditch and left to die. Thankfully, she was discovered by a dog rescuer in the Cleveland area and taken to the vet at once, where she was treated for an eye infection and diagnosed with mild hydrocephalus. The vet checked her out head to toe(s) and she doesn’t appear to have the neurological symptoms often found with that diagnosis, so no medication was required for her long-term care. She received her first round of vaccines and has been thriving on good food and TLC. And talk about high functioning! She runs, she plays, she pees, she poops, she barks, she loves life! All in all, she’s a vibrant, healthy, happy pup who just wants to find the perfect home to live out her best life. She does great with other dogs (plays a lot with the other small fosters in the house) and is good with people. Whoever ends up with this little doll is going to be incredibly blessed.

Meet Gypsy, the epitome of serenity and sweetness. This charming lady flourishes in an environment filled with love and affection. Tragically, her beloved owner, who cherished her deeply, has passed away. Gypsy finds joy in spending time indoors with her family, relishing the comfort of home, and venturing outside to engage in playful squirrel-chasing and barking antics. Are you ready to offer Gypsy the warmth and care she deserves in her golden years?Est. DOB: 4/16/158 lbs.AAR does not transport for adoption.

Story
Hiya! My name is Foxy. I have a heart of gold and the ears of a fox. I'm as sweet and loving as can be once I observe you for a short period of time. Once I determine you are a safe person, I will stick to you like super glue! I love the company of other playful dogs (preferably small/under 20 lbs). For this reason, I will need another dog in my forever home. I like my walkies and I am even learning to play with toys. I'm oh so very smart and catch on quickly! I'm house and crate trained, too! However, I'm a very good girl and not destructive so I really do not need to be in the crate if you don't want me to be! If you'd like a sweet lady by your side, pick me!
