Story
NES: –Chiweenie mix / Spayed Female / 3 years old / 18 lbs INES is a friendly, gentle, and well-mannered girl who gets along well with other dogs. She enjoys going for walks in the park and riding in the car. Ines is calm and obedient, rarely barks, and is not destructive. She sleeps comfortably in a crate, is not anxious, and enjoys playing with toys. She also loves being around people and spending time with her family. Ines was found near a mountain with her two puppies. They were in very poor condition, suffering from mange that left their skin bleeding, and they were extremely malnourished, hungry, and thirsty. Despite everything they had been through, they still wagged their tails at every person they saw, hoping for help. Sadly, most people ignored them. Fortunately, a kind rescuer found them and took them home, then brought them to a veterinarian so they could receive treatment and recovers their health. Today, Ines is healthy and ready to find a loving forever home. Every dog deserves a safe and loving home. Adopt a rescue dog today; we are their voice! Story
FOXY: Chiweenie Mix | Neutered Male | 3 Years Old | 13 lbs Foxy is a gentle, calm, and shy little boy with a tender heart. He has a quiet nature and rarely barks, making him a peaceful companion for a calm home. Foxy gets along well with other dogs and is currently learning to walk on a leash, gaining confidence a little more each day. He shares an especially strong bond with his friend Sally—they comfort and protect one another and would thrive in a home where they can stay together or with another kind, patient dog. Foxy sleeps well in a crate and is slowly discovering the warmth of human love and companionship, something he never experienced before being rescued. Foxy’s story is one of loyalty and bravery. He was rescued from a group of stray dogs that had gathered around females in heat. Despite being much smaller than the others, Foxy never left Sally’s side and even risked his life to protect her. His devotion and courage are truly remarkable. Now safe, Foxy is ready for a loving, patient family who will give him the time and kindness he needs to fully come out of his shell. With love, he will blossom into a deeply devoted and grateful companion. Every dog deserves a safe and loving home — adopt a rescue dog today. We are their voice! Story
Meet Bubba, a chihuahua/dauschound mix. He's 12 years old and the younger brother of Hopper who we got from someone who could no longer take care of them. Bubba is good with other dogs but can be unsure of new people. He takes his time getting to know someone and follows his lead from other dogs. It would be great if he could be adopted with his brother or in a home with other animals. Bubba is neutered, microchipped, and current on shots. He weighs about 11 lbs. If you would like to meet him, p lease fill out a brief questionnaire https://downtowndogrescue.org/adoption-questionnaire We adopt in the greater Los Angeles area.

Story
Franny is a nearly 12-year-old deer head Chihuahua with a gentle, loving personality. She came from New Mexico in 2016 and has been a loyal, steady companion ever since. She’s a quiet, low-energy dog who loves cozy spaces, soft blankets, and staying close to her person. Because of her age and small size, she does best in a calm, low-stress home without larger or dominant dogs.Franny has some dental sensitivity and does best with soft food. She is potty trained when she has easy access outside, though like many senior dogs, she may need a consistent routine and a little patience. She would be a great fit for someone looking for a calm, comforting presence — a home where she can feel safe, relaxed, and cared for in her senior years. This is not an easy decision. Her comfort and safety come first, and I’m looking for a kind, patient home that understands the needs of a small senior dog.I’ll be taking my time to find the right fit for her.

Story
Meet Maple! This pretty girl originally came to our rescue in 2020 when we rescued her from a Riverside Shelter. She is now 6 years old. It was immediately apparent that Maple did not come from ideal circumstances. She was extremely fearful of humans. When approached she would run, yelp, and scream to try to avoid being touched. She had stress patching and wouldn’t eat dog food out of a bowl, however, she knows exactly what people's food is. She was placed with a great foster that worked with her on trusting people. Slowly she began to gain confidence and progress into such a good girl. Once she had some progression and was easier to work with Maple was adopted. We were so happy that she had a home that could accommodate her. Through the years of regular pictures and videos, she seemed to be living her best life with her family. She was going on trails with horses, camping, swimming in her pool, and keeping all the kids and dogs quiet and in line at her house. She grew to be a very independent dog but seems to dislike loud noises, people arguing or anyone touching her without her permission. Unfortunately, due to extremely unforeseen circumstances, Maple ended up at the Riverside Shelter at the end of October 2023. We pulled her as soon as the shelter would allow us to but it was still over a week and Maple became stressed and scared again. Maple was taken in by a new foster home to help her decompress and gain trust again. Although the shelter was hard on her she was definitely showing that she had progressed greatly throughout the years. Her current foster has allowed her to become independent, trusting, and even playful and loving at times with her person. She is still not a fan of being touched without permission but will let you know when she wants pets. Being picked up is still hard but with a blanket and some patience, it can be done. She loves to sit right next to you once you have settled on the couch or in bed. She can co-exist with other dogs and probably cats. We recommend a home with children 12 or older. Due to past trauma, she does not like leashes, collars, and harnesses, and therefore doesn’t go on walks. She enjoys her space, her treats, her blankets, and her person. Once she finds her person she will love and protect them for the rest of her life. She is currently using potty pads inside but will go outside, is crate trained and enjoys the sunlight and following her person around. If you would like to learn more about Maple to foster or adopt please email us at heartandhomerescueorg@gmail.com.
